Custom Slant Valve Covers

-
On my set-up, I formed the tube from flat stock. The welder then TIGed it closed so that it was a functional tube. My welder charged me $80 to TIG the tube, cut the hole in the valve cover, TIG the tube to the valve cover (from the inside) and TIG both sets of baffles I made from the flat stock (which was about $15 at Lowes. Thought the price was very reasonable for the work that was done, especially since I can't do TIG welding (but would like to learn)

Hey Don, thanks for showing them off! I'm really happy to hear you like them. Those chrome caps really set 'em off.

They're a first for me in a few ways: First time using that color combo of Flag Red and Silver Glaze, first 2-tone custom Slant 6s, and my first ever Polys to restore. I was surprised when you told me how long they'd been sitting outside -- they're pretty tough old birds.

It looks like you already crashed for the night so here's a couple of my pics for the website.

Thanks again for your business and loyalty! I always enjoy working with you. And thanks too to kittypancake and Martin for the kind words. I appreciate it! :-D

Got a guy over at the Poly forum to make up a set of decals for the poly valve covers. Haven't decided on the placement for the driver's side; passenger side is pretty well dictated due to the placement of the heater hose strap bracket.

If you're looking for votes Dartman, I vote for the rear placement on both valve covers so they're symetrical side-to-side - but I'm anal that way. Firm believer in "it's all in the details".

I'd vote for dead center on both of them. The pcv and breather visually balance the outside edges, and the center points lead the viewer's eye there.

If my "measuring fingers" against the monitor are accurate :-D, I think the heater hose bracket is going to hit between the 3 and the slope of the 1. You could easily trim a little 'leaning V' slot there to accomodate the upright of the bracket without visually interfering with the beauty of the decal.

Regardless of where you put them, those old Polys have come a long way over what you and I started with, eh Don?????

Rug, I don't sell valve covers or aluminum (except in the rare case when I have personal parts available). I just sell my time, labor and talent ... and a lot of it is sold to FABO members. :-D I wouldn't have it any other way either.

Didn't say you sold the parts. I was just suggesting you could promote you work there.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Oh thanks Rugs! That makes sense. I'd love to get the shop listed on their Links page. Any idea who the moderators / page owners are?

... and you know I could do it too!!! Multi-color custom jobs -- especially Mopar parts -- are my specialty ya know. ;-)

But I won't. The color choices are going to be up to you Mike. I'll get some "before" pictures when Waggin gets it here and we'll go from there. As always, I look forward to working with you again and appreciate your loyalty.

A set of Poly and a pair of slant valve covers that Leanna did for me came in through FedEx today. Needless to say I was impressed. She did them in Flag Red with silver accents on the ribs. On the 65 valve cover I added the factory chromed oil filler cap and PCV cap (both standard with the Commando valve covers) with a NOS PCV valve to see what it would look like. The 66 has a chrome NOS Cal Custom oil filler cap and NOS PCV grommet and PCV valve. Pictures just don't do them justice!

Don! That cover looks great. I would have done it the same way. A true eye catcher.

If you get a sticky in the parts for sale section? Slantzilla is a mod so is Slantsixdan. They have a billet fuel cap there on a sticky.

It isn't as commercial as this site. Everyone is real friendly, and close community.

Great folks!

Yep - i'll back that up - plenty of helpful blokes on /6 and a lot of them double up here on FABO.
Both sites very helpful

Leanna, The work you do on the valve covers is impressive!!!!! To say the least, have ya done a set of 426 Hemi's yet? I think, I seen the Fire Power ones that were done.

See, I myself, don't have a Hemi (I can only dream right now) BUT, I have a few ideas up my sleeves and plan to reveal them here pretty soon..... That, well includes a few "Hemi" parts.....As you all will see.

John, aside from a pair of FirePowers for thansen here on FABO, the only other Hemi valve covers I've had the pleasure to work on were two pairs of brand new KBs for the same customer. One set is on his front engine dragster and the other is on his '64 Polara.

Thank you very much for the kind compliments! I'd love to get my hands on some old Red Rams some day ... :-D

Maybe one of these days I'll get my 392 Valve covers finished and get them sent to you. Both have had the "FIRE POWER" raised area removed, and stovepipes added to each valve cover a la 60's style. Still have to add some baffles under the stovepipes and a bit more metal work.

That is a super job done! I know when Don talked me into using Leannas service and that is a decision I have never regretted! :happy1:

Thanks Don and Leanna!

WOW! Leanna those Hemi valve covers look AWESOME!!!!! They are HUGE in comparison to the OHV covers made, by ANY one.....

As for the compliments, well you done well on those they look awesome!!!!

Dartman, those are shaping up nicely!!!!! Will look GREAT either way, by Leanna, or if finished up by your own 2 hands. with a bit of work in either finish.....

Leanne, I did up a slant valve cover just like that last year, and this is the first time I saw yours! Were on the same channel.......Those poly heads look like a cake! :)
