Does anyone have easy method for centering Cragar wheels onmy 64 Dart.
Seems like there is too much slop in the holes. Thanks
Moe

If the holes are hogged out don't use them. If the holes are good and round the lug nuts should be just a tiny bit smaller than the hole in the wheel. You may have the wrong lug nuts. There is no centering on Cragars. Post some pics so we know what you're up against. tmm

if you have all five lug nuts started but not all the way tight and you can move the rim side to side then you have problems. i have tightened down many cragar wheels , most of them being uni-lug with the offset washers. ive had a couple that would not tighten up centered on the hub because the holes got wallowed out from someone running them with loose lug nuts. are these new wheels? the lug nuts and washers do the centering and if a hole or two has been rounded out they wont "center"

Do you still have the 4" bolt pattern? I thought most of those wheels are straight drilled, not unilug type. If so you may not have the correct lugnut shank diameter. There really shouldn't be any slop there.

Wow guys, you type faster then i do..............lol.

Gotta be wrong lugnuts for the application.....IMO

3/16" would almost be the limit without lugnuts?

Maybe a pic or two could help some of us?

Put the wheels on and finger tighten nut and the wheel will move up and down on the hub about 3/16" +or-

yea , thats no good , do the holes look wallowed out? are these uni-lug? either way the shank should slip in the hole with very minimal play. take a lug nut and just fit it in the hole with the wheel off and see how well it fits.

i would agree that either the shank is wrong or the holes are screwed up

I hate to repeat myself. lol

Let me throw one more possibility out there......the lug shank is too big and your trying to seat them against the flange like a tapered seat lug?

Your right Mike, we really do need pics. If the wheels are moving 3/16 of a inch, that dial indicator will only be good for a paper weight.......

Well pics of this is kinda hard . I measured with my calipers the lug nut shank is just a hair
Over 9/16 the hole in the wheel is a hair over 5/8" these are the lug nut that came with the wheels notice i read my calipers wrong , it should be
3/32 not 3/16,but still seems like alot of play!!!!!! i`ll have better measurements tomorrow when my buddy comes with his tools.

Hi Moe, it does'nt sound like you're that far off to me. If there is a shop in your area that has the equipment to balance the wheels on the car you might want to check them out. If your feeling vibration or a mild thumping, it could even be a tire issue? I have'nt done it for years, but if there is still a shop for that i would check them out. Good luck to you, we all like a smooth ride .

I'll have it checked out when I have the front end aligned this week, thank you for all the response today

3 / 32 is still over 1/16 of an inch. all my wheels, centerlines ,S/Ss and anything that takes shank style lug nuts, are a real snug fit. in other words, they are hitting the sides of the holes, especially my centerlines which are 4 1/2 specific. the cragars i have also fit really snug, but i also have offset washers. i went out and checked my lug nuts against the inside slot on the wheel and there is no movement and they fit snug.
maybe you could try a couple new lug nuts from a different vendor to see if that makes a difference. idk , just tossing out ideas.

:banghead:OK, boys and Girls here are the pics and what I ended up haveing to do, I called Summit Racing and all they could do is give me product specs as they sold it, this didn`t suprise me as this is probably the first time this has ever happened. All was within specs. Then I called Cragar,no one home and did not return my call, end of story there!!! Now there was so much play that when they put the wheels on with a air wrench the socket touched the chrome and kinda scored the wheel, sooo I made some little round spacers,
now you talk about shade tree I should score high on that. First pic is the hole I had to fill After I finished the wheel had no slop, and the lug bolts turned freely. i`ll just keep a close eye on them. hopefully front end aligment today
Moe

I'll give you props for being innovative, but you really shouldn't have to go through all that. IMO there has to be a better solution? Also, do you have washers for those lugnuts?
