heres my 70
KimTerrysPictures208.jpg

the lenses have the same part number they are just painted different the 70 grille had more argent silver while the 71 had the fins blacked out like yours

so, are just the face of the fins silver? thisgrille has been repainted at one time, and i would hate to do it again at this point, but may have to now.lol

the way i did mine 10 yrs ago was i painted the entire grille semi gloss black then proceeded to mask the black parts, the fins were all the way silver not just the face the channel that goes around the fins is black the fun part was the headlight surrounds and the turning lenses get a sharp X-acto knife and its a walk in the park

i was looking at your grille you might be able to get away with just doing your finned part alot of taping either way

I just refinished the grille on my 71 ..

I disassembled it, washed it, and used wet/dry 500 grit paper on the flat areas.. (water bucket with a little squeeze of dishsoap in it to help get rid of any grime on the plastic)
then used a red scotchbrite pad, with water, to scrub and scuff all the areas in between the slats and in the corners..
Then, once it was all cleaned off, and dry - polished (by hand) the clear lenses using Meguiars plastic cleaner and polish.. then taped off the lenses only with blue masking tape.

Sprayed the silver areas (border of the grille, lens areas, and the 'stripe' that goes around the inner part of the grille.

Once the silver was dry (about 45 min), I taped off the areas that I wanted to stay silver (the strip around the inner part of the grille, as well as the border of the grille, and the lens areas), using blue low-tack masking tape and professional grade 3M fine-line tape for sharp, crisp edges... then, sprayed the semi-gloss black on .. used a full can to ensure coverage in between all the slats and corners.. let it dry, then pulled off my tape, exposing the silver areas.. looked great, took a total of about 3.5 hours including prep time. A lot easier to do it this way than spraying the black, and then taping it to spray the silver.

Joe, keep her going! All the AH's that have nothing good to say just ignor them, they have nothing else better to do. Loved pinky, should have kept that one!...........Can't wait to see this in FC7!!!!!! Dave

i just got done the final coat on the rally guage face. not perfect, but i am building to drive the balls off it!

once it is fully cured, i have to add the silver to the control words, and around the switches

i use the dulicolor chrome fake garbage, but wait a few days and clear coat it. if you do not clear it. when you wipe your hand on the chrome, it come right off onto your finger, and leaves a dull spot where you rubbed

NICE paint job on that left hand and thumbnail!!! JK Ben.

The grille is 100% correct!!! Don't paint it, it should be that way, all 1970 340 Swingers had the blacked out grille while the other models had the silver. All 1971 Darts had the blacked out grille.

hey Joe im not sure if you know or not but that grille is painted like a 71 style not a 70 just giving ya the heads up, and it looks like the pass side turn lens is a 70 piece and the driver side is a 71 subscribed

70 340 swingers did not have a blacked out grille the blacked out grille is 71 style

No, I am the expert and you sir are dead wrong!! :glasses7:

Just kidding! Actually, I thought they were black on 340 cars but I could be wrong. My 70 has a 71 grille then, I will have to look into it but, you learn something new everyday! Thanks for the lesson :D

lol, Keith
i like the 71 style myself but if your going for the correct look the all argent color is the way to go on a 70

well, i have been contiplating alot of little things wioth the car, and i have decided that for the most part, it will go back to as much origional as possible, but stuff like intake, carb, headers, grille and little other things will may not be year correct, but cannot afford to buy a thing right now, and i have the stuff just sitting.
as for the grille, i now see that it is not painted correctly for the car, but due to it being in very good condition, i will not repaint it to be correct for 70. i like the look more.
alot of the parts i got with the car are rusty, so i heve been dipping them, and repainting them. got the dash done, except for the woodgrain pieces. who sell them?
i cleaned the block, crank and other parts. then honed all cylinders. going to put the stock pistons/rods back in.
here is the pics
