Stud broke

When i got my new tires put on, when i got home i noticed one of my studs broke partially , how easy is it to replace it? Would a tire place fix it, if i ordered the parts? Do i even need to order the parts or would a tire place have various studs?? any help would be appreciated since im in the dark on this issue, it is a stock 5x 4 bolt pattern so i dont know if that helps or makes a difference at all. Thank you
 
You can replace them yourself, but it would help if you said if it was the front or rear.
 
i have had great success knocking the studs out of the rear axle with a good sludge . the front drum or disc,not so much,had to have them pressed out.
 
I agree with 73abodee above. If it's a rear stud just beat it out with a mini-sledge. If it's a front one you'll have to get it pressed in at a machine shop unless you have a press.
 
is it a drivers side?? or more importantly a left hand thread?? if so take it back and have them fix it... sounds like they broke it installing new tires...
 
Careful I bent something on my front hub trying to remove a stud.

Rear shouldn't be so bad, I used a socket and a heavy C clamp to push one out.
 
Make them fix it. Tire monkeys should know about left-hand threads, but many don't. It wasn't just Mopar cars, many cars both domestic and foreign used LH studs. Goodyear idiots messed up a stud and didn't tell me. When the tread separated on the highway weeks later, I tried to remove the wheel and the stud just spun in the hub. The monkey must have kept turning up his impact wrench until he spun the stud.

In early cars (1968 down?), the factory swaged the front studs to secure the drums. You need to file the swage off. You might cut the stud flush with a hacksaw and drill it out a bit to remove the swage. I have beat the studs out with a hammer in a junkyard to obtain a hub, which sheared the swage off.
 
it was drivers side front, drum brakes, so from what it seems i dont have such an easy issue on my hands. Should i order a new left hand stud and have a tire place fix it?, i dont wanna deal with the place that messed it up.
 
There is a special swage removal tool that fits into a drill.
Somebody should have more info on it.
 
any autozone or oreillys has the studs in stock (usually) i have bought 10 at a time. its just a matter of getting your old one out, and then you have pull it through with a lug nut.

Do you use any loctite when replacing wheel stud?
 
I replaced all of my Left Handed studs recently. The studs are cheap and the Hydraulic Press I bought ($70)gets used so much I don't know how I lived without it.
