what is the difference between the wedge and non wedge 340?

which cars had the wedge 340?

Ha! That's Funny! Marketing, Marketing, Marketing.)

What people aren't saying is, "wedge" refers to the shape of the combustion chamber.

most v8s are wedge if not they are flatheds, hemis etc.

and don't forget the poly.

The REASON the wedge name got started was when the first factory performance 413's came out ?62? were called "Maximum Performance Wedge" or "Max wedge." This "name" became almost a necessity because in 64 you had both a 426 wedge and a 426 hemi, that is, a time when two vastly different engines were the same CID. You could NOT just tell someone "it's a 426", as in "it's a Chivvy 427" because you HAD to get across the STATUS that "it's a hemi" or "it's a max wedge."

So AFTER there were no identification problems, IE there was no 340 hemi, "wedge" just became an excuse to paste a sticker on a loudly painted factory ride.

Not really.. It's just that the person who wrote that article/answer has absolutely no idea of what he speaks.

"Popular Applications

The Mopar 340 Wedge engine was first labeled on the E-body Plymouth Duster. It could be identified by a badge that read "Wedge 340" instead of "340 V-8." The designation confused consumers at the time due to the relatively low-power of the engine and the small cubic centimeter displacement that the design featured."

(E-body Duster?)

"Wedge Controversy

The Wedge concept was slow to take off because of this misconception. However, Mopar followed the 340 Wedge with larger and more powerful engines such as the 413 Max Wedge and the 426 Wedge."

(413 & 426 Wedge came after the 340? LOL)

That's the problem with the Internet there some good information out but there's a lot more BS like that where you got wade through first and it seems like the people mainly pass on the BS as gospel leaving a lot of people confused.

This is the guy who wrote it. I guess a masters in English doesn't qualify you as a Mopar Gearhead. Stick to writing fiction there Bobby!.. You are good a that

cubic centimeters???

What about the 340 T/A? I know it was only done in 1970. I thought there was a difference in the comp ratio and the valves sizes depending on the year?
