Demon "Classic Air" AC Install

-
I tried it up there but it just wouldn't go back far enough. Looking at you pics, it looks like your A/C unit hangs a little lower than mine.

You might be right on the Cuda location vs the Demon's.....It was a struggle to get it to fit there, but I couldn't find any other place I was happy with.

It's in and working, so :D

How much do think you will have spent by the time your done with this project????

Thanks ........................ PETE .....................................

We're hoping to make it again this year HE HE :). Did you see the FABO Meet 'n Greet thread in the Events forum that Tony started for MMW?

Hoping the A/C install will be finished this weekend. It wouldn't have taken this long if the project wasn't sidetracked with new insulation, carpeting and stereo upgrades........ Need a few final cuts on the carpeting, then put the bucket seats, sill plates and seat belts back in.

Then off to the shop for evacuation and charging....My fingers are crossed, the A/C won't require add'l upgrades to the cooling system. The radiator is new, and I'm running a 5 blade Mopar clutch fan with a factory shroud, so we'll see........

To be continued

I was reading this thread for 2 reasons I am repairing my factory A/C and live 8 miles from Classic Air here in Tampa and used them for help even thought I bought nothing from them...My windows are all factory tinted the tint is very hard to notice if at all and Plymouth recommended tint as it makes it easy for factory system to keep cooler, but might take a little longer to get cool but works with out the tint ..I would think with a NEW systems you would never notice any cooling delay at all .Rick...:-k

It certainly helps but it was 90 degrees here in GA today with 80% + humidity an my windows in my 65 Barracuda are not tinted and it was pretty cool in my car even after driving for 45-60 minutes.

Interior is back together finally.......:D

 Thx hemiT I actually got the insulation idea from here on FABO. That stuff is really easy to work with and very inexpensive. One $25 roll of insulation did the whole car with some left over. I decided to use some for the kick panels too.

I'm hoping the AC install will extend the cruisin' season a few months more.

congrats on getting it operating. how cool is it?

also what part of home depot did you get that from? i went to hd and they looked at me like i was crazy

Having what appears to be :stacked Heater core and evaporator cotr youwill neee a heater control to stop hot water from being in the heater when AC is desired.

Hey 6pk. I'm trying to install A/c in my dart with a /6. It was an a/c car so I just got a sanden 508 compressure and brackets off a 85 truck with a /6. I'm using the factory condenser and evap but need to make new lines. My question is, are you using an expansion valve? If so where is it located in your system? Thanks

BTW, your system looks killer Kool.

I "think" the expansion valve is integrated in the new AC box supplied in the kit from Classic Auto Air. I'm not sure where Mopar put it on original factory AC cars. Maybe start a thread and ask.....someone must know that answer for you.

Thx on the looks killer Kool comment.....I'm really happy with it :D

And how cool is it? Is life now more enjoyable in a black Demon?

Wylde1.

Thx Wylde...Yes, much more enjoyable now. The coldest I've seen on the thermometer stuck in the vents was around 43*.....brrrrrrr. ha,ha

good question, how cool and how is the engine temp when running it?

Right after the install the car was elevating slightly north of 210* on a 100*+ day in regular stop 'n go traffic.

We mounted an auxilary electric 10" pusher fan in front of the condensor this weekend and test drive showed temps staying below 210*. Should be good for the winter season here. Not sure it would work in extreme temps though :sunny:

I'm calling it done for now.....:) 8-)8-)

rtee, I would highly recommend the Classic kit. Their customer service & install help was much better than anticipated.

NO issues since the install in 2012 other than keeping the coolant temp down. After topping off the R134 (about 6 months later), my thermometer often reads in the 30* range...

Mine is not a daily driver and our climate here can be extremely hot in the summer, but AC sure helps extend the driving season :D

Isn't the hardware stuff tar based and smells when it heats up?

What I used has NO tar based material...It's basically 2 layers of aluminum foil with bubble wrap type material in the middle....Very easy to work with & inexpensive :D
