As some of you may know, I have been restoring a 73 340 duster with my dad for almost 8 years now. Now that its almost done, I took it upon myself to buy myself my own project. Just picked up a 1971 duster twister with the rare fold back canvas moon roof. Its rough but I plan on holding on to it. Just got it home and bought it from the eastern shore of Maryland. 1 owner car, slant 6 with an auto on the tree.I plan on keeping it the way it came off the show room floor but if anyone is really really interested in it then you can PM me but I plan on keeping it even though my old man does NOT approve.

I seen that on craigslist and even thought about it! Looks like a fun project you should keep it.

Lou

I like it Eddie. You even got trophies before it gets restored......geez. lol

I like it. Take your time and do it right. Good luck.

If it had been for sale on the West Coast I would have taken a shot at owning it.

Thanks guys, its going to be little by little since, well, I'm just a poor 18 year old. Just got done messing with it and I think the engine might be locked up so when my friend looks at it, who is a better mechanic than me, I think it will be figured out. More to come, anyone else have any of these V3X or V3W dusters or demons? I understand they were made in 71-72 and shipped off to have the roof put in and are rare with not many left. I've only seen 2 at carlisle in my lifetime.

I've seen 10 or so total Dusters and Demons.

There was a correct orange insert bench seat listed on Kansas City Craigslist last week,I dont know if its still there.Really cool car by the way.

Hopefully you can keep that car out of the elements. Very neat color combo with the roof and fold down seat that is a cool car. But I would V8 that thing in a heart beat.

I dont have the money to put a 340 or anything bigger in it, not even the money for a 318 haha. But good news is I charged my battery over night and it cranked over this morning. Now to clean up my connections better and see if I have spark, then hook up a gas can to it. I know I need a new starter since I broke off a stud half way and I think its a little worn out. Other than that I need some mouse traps and to get the interior out, smells pretty bad.

I think my dad got over it guys. He helped me with the whole "I'm not getting any spark" problem today and let me use his old parts collecting duster in the shed. Even said once his 73 duster gets painted, I can keep it on the side of the house as long as I keep my Jeep in the cul de sac. I'll mess with it a little more tomorrow, It's getting to dark to fast now.

That's good to hear your dad got over it and started helping you out.

COOL car kid(just 18!). Keep it if you can, restore back to original with /6!!!!!

Thats the plan, College just started up so expect me to be as slow as a snail on this. Got to go with the priorities first and school is a big one. Once I can get it here at the house I think I will start tearing it down a little more. This heat and humidity has made me stay away the last few days.

how much ???????? trade you a number matching 340 3 speed duster its a project to not as bad 72 340

Congrats on your find !

This particular vehicle exemplifies the era of being able to individually order options :
Certainly there were packages ; but for the most part , one started with 4 tyres and a steering wheel , with options stacked-on from there .

Where else could one buy a brightly-painted , non-performance , sunroof , stripp-o interior (which even looks good on its own merits !) with rubber mats , sport mirrors and top-of-the-line grille , without having to buy these options in some damned "package" !

This thing would look so nice in restored condition . Do it some justice !

Amen, what he said!

Thanks felles. Sadly I havent even seen the car in over a week. Work and school take up all my time but my dad painted the 73 (without me) and now I can bring it home so hopefully I'll have time to mess with it now. Sure wish I could post some progress pics but theres no progress.

Have had a little time to mess with the car here lately. Few new parts but it is still out of time. Should be here at home within the week so I can mess with it more. Anyone know where the vin is on the engine? I would like to confirm that it is numbers matching. If it is not, there is a 340 with a 727 and headers on craigslist last time I checked that needs a new home. If its numbers matching and everything is good with the engine, it's staying.

Well I wish I could help you out on the VIN # on the engine Eddy. I know what I would do is pull the motor and trans out of it and get that 340/727 trans and put that in,but hang onto it for now.

It would be nice but I do like it being original and insurance plus gas wont be all to bad. Guess the guy changed mis labeled his post, its a 360 but I'd still go for it if somethings wrong with my /6. Anyone else know where the vin is on the engine and tranny?

Car made its way to my house the other day and a 3 day weekend call for a little digging. To bad this is a repeat of my dads 73 340 and I opened up another can of worms. Going to be a long build. I was however greeted with a build sheet in good condition and also a huge mouse nest. Now the search for a floor or a donor duster to cut up with a solid floor.
