What is everyone using to repaint their dash? I am looking at painting my dash black. It doesn't have to be 100% stock but I would like a nice durable finish.

I am probably going to strip the dash to bare metal and start over. I'd rather not have it look like something that's been painted over 50 times.

I thought about powder coating, I'm not sure of anyone that does that locally to me but it is def under consideration.

My plan is to use one of the inserts from Peak, I will most likely paint that some sort of hi gloss black and then the rest of the dash will be the stock type flat black.

John Deere blitz black is a durable satin black that looks great! If you strip the dash down to bare metal use their buffer sealer primer first then the black… It looks great either out of the can or the paint gun!

Are you guys using the trim paint for the plastic parts? or the metal too? or is that something I can use on everything and have all of my trim pieces match

The trim black is a lacquer. You can use it on pretty much anything and I dont even use a primer most of the time.

The SEM products for vinyl and plastic bonds to metals also. I used the Landau black on everything I painted in my 67. I dry sprayed the final coat on the dash metal to get the finish closer to the factory suede finish.

This could be a good choice for me as some of my trim pieces could use cleaned up and paint too I also have a console that i might use but it needs a good bit of work.

Maybe I can practice on that

I didn't know SEM bonded to all three?? Metal/Plastic/Vinyl
That saved me trouble. I thought I was going to have to buy separate paints and try to match them together. That's a great tip, and saved me a bunch of aggravation. They don't sale it local to me. I will check their website.

My dash can be seen at the demondin link below. I used a beat up dash with extra holes drilled and such for this mod project. Wire brushed some rust. Sanded some places. Coated with Rustoleums Rust Reformer from spray can, then the SEMS landau black.
Please note there is nothing on my dash pad, not even armorall.
I cant testify to how durable the SEMS product is on metal. I dont know how it would be tested.
I did use a different paint on doors, roof railing, etc..

I used Rustoleum gloss black on the dash face and John Deere Blitz Black for the top surface. I think it looks pretty good.

Rustoleum makes a texured black paint you can pick up at the hardware store. looks pretty close to stock on the grain, just not as flat. did my RR dash with it.

Keep em coming guys these are all great ideas. I'm going to get a couple different kinds and see what I can come up with.

Right now I am leaning towards the SEM because I will probably be doing all of my interior pieces too. I might also try the rustoleum too, I like the idea of having some of the factory type texture. Plus the metal dash wouldn't exactly match all of the plastic pieces from the factory anyways.

Very nice!! I am thinking SEM, since I am doing metal, and vinyl. I want them all to match. Outstanding!!

I am painting the back side of my dash white so if I need to work back there it will light up bright when I stick a drop light back there. It made a difference on my other car

X2 I used the same stuff after primer and it looks great. I have to come back with a green scrubby and knock the highs down a little so I could wipe the dash with a cloth but it turned out really nice.
