Duster Rear Window Louvers

-
is the the 750-1000 for the back window louvers? Or side pop out louvers?
If it is for the sides I will pass cant spend that on one piece for the car that is simply astetics.
I think I will try my hand at doin some this winter over winter break.

Hey, don't kill the messenger -- I didn't set the price. I just tried to find someone who might be inclined to develop and manufacture them for ya'll. It's kind of funny to read so many people's efforts to get Duster louvers made and when the possibility becomes real, all we can hear are crickets chirping. I tried ..................

Oh, I am very thankful! And I'll still be watching and would love to see some made. I'm just saying that I cannot promise that I would have the money right now.

Okay I've been traveling and just got back and saw this thread was updated.. I just finished reading your paragraph above Leanna. Perhaps Bob could enlighten everyone to the process of his fabrication techniques as well as R & D? It's hard for most anyone to just plop down a $grand$, and "waa-la" here's your louvers (in this case).. I do understand that it takes money to get the Jigs made, set-up the suppliers for raw materials, figure the amount of time for fabrication, set your price, figure your burden & overhead, and most of all what kind of margin can you make. I think to ask so much from so few is why the "crickets" are chirping.
Could we also ask are these being made from aluminum, mild steel, lexan? Or are they being made from fiberglass, plastic injection, or some other materials. What kind of finishes is he going to put on them, will there be anchor points to the window or, are these going to be slip overs?? Are these for the sides only, or all 3, the sides and the rear window? I also realize and know he has a very limited customer base with these items. Knowing it will take approx. $20,000.00 to develop and out of a 100 sets half may be sold, the other half will sit in his inventory, he needs to cover his inventory cost of 30% over the next year, which anyone who contributes will be covering his inventory overages. I'm not knocking what happens to develop a product (been there done that). I just think in this case with one individual on here (this thread) taking some time to do the side window louvers in fiberglass and getting the mold correct, then offering to make as many needed, and then sell them unfinished. Is this something Bob's company could do? Or is he just looking at the back louvers only? Everyone who is truly interested needs details, and answers as to the length of time, and what to expect on any kind of return, unless forfieted as a buyer only? I Thank You Leanna for getting in touch with Bob and helping the cause.
Please don't take my questions in the wrong way, alot of people just don't know the processes of new products from conception, design, engineering, manufacturing, trial & error, finishing, advertising, sales, and finally, shipping. I just think before anyone would want to commit, details would be "very much appreciated"...

I can't answer any of your questions Tim. I saw a random post on FaceBook about some place called ACME doing Charger louvers and wings; I asked the guy who posted it about the possibility of doing some Duster louvers and sent him links to this and the other louvers thread so he could see the comments and what you've all been going through and gauge the interest for himself. What he told me is what I copied and pasted above. I don't have a Duster and I don't need or want louvers for my Barracuda. I'm just trying to help get you guys hooked up with someone who can make it happen. If it works out, GREAT! If not ... I tried.

I know...... Most Humble Apologies Leanna if I ruffled some fur.. I've been in the situation/position where all is not presented by the people who promise.. Money just disappears and the work produced was at best less than 73AboddEE's cardboard louvers in comparison, LOL!!. Everyone who is reading this thread please understand I'm looking at it in a business sense for what's good for any of us. Maybe a little premature because there has been no posting from ACME as of yet. But questions like I presented need to be asked and everyone needs to understand as much as possible when you lay down your own money.
So Leanna please forgive me.. I too want to see if this group can do anything.. if so I'll probably step up to the plate and hand over some cash.. Unless one or two on here can come up with some fiberglass ones. I would be willing to support them just as equally and monetarily.

Well I know I was the last one to post on this thread.. But has anyone had any success yet?? Still would like to keep this alive..19..

As would I. Seems like every time someone gets close to making something, they disappear :(

No worries Tim, I'm not ruffled in any way. Like you, I'm just trying to see something to fruition. The guy I originally had in mind when I first posted in this thread a long time ago has had a rough couple of years and is currently relocating (again). He does have an extensive formal manufacturing background in sheet metal fabrication and tooling, and a personal love of A Bodies, so he's worth waiting for in my opinion. It's been this long since our cars were new ... what's another couple of decades?? :-D

I Thank You for your Kind Words, :prayer: "Oh Mistress of Metal, High Priestess of Powder Coat, Keeper of Colors, and Maker of Old Mopars Beautiful!".. er..uhh is that enough.. I probably could think of a few more... LOL!
Anyways..(still laughing)... I finally have got a line on a set "F" body louveres. As soon as they come in, me and the Dremel are gonna get real close. I gonna see how my old skills at brazing with some "magical brazing rod" are still any good. If not I can always Epoxy the dang thing back together.. I used to know a few really good fiberglass guys that I might be able to present something to them in person. They too did not want to go thru the whole process of cut and fit. Then I used to know some good sheet metal workers.. Always easier when you have something in hand..
Wish me luck..

:-D Me too. You're adorable.

High Priestess ... I kinda like that. LMAO

I kinda figured one of the bunch might stick.. Does have a nice ring to it... Sorta rolls off the pallet... HIGH PRIESTESS OF POWDERCOAT!!!!.. I like it! New title to add to the one(s) you already carry.. So Be IT! The "Friars of FABO" make it so! Boy is this thread getting sideways... LOL!!

And Sublime, those are the rare rear window louveres from Mr. Norms garage. Heck we're all just trying to make a set for the sides.. I don't think anyones gotten brave enough to attempt that one yet..

Okay... I'm not letting this die.. I have a set of louveres I bought that I haven't received yet. But when I get them I'm going to carve on them till I get the look I want.. Now we all have been talking about fiberglass, I had another Idea.. "Vacuum Forming". I know the basics of heating a piece a heavy guage vinyl and it gets sucked down around the form, (louveres). They may be extremely light and only need to be taped on with some 3M tape, but I don't think the cost would be as stiff as fiberglass?? I'm going to do some research and see what the cost may be.. But it's another avenue that we can look at. Possibly cheap enough that a wooden form could work as well.. Who knows. but I don't give up that easily.. I like a good challenge!!!

now thats a thought. i never thought about vacuum forming them over a mold and cutting out the holes and painting them. hmmmmm......

tbh...I wonder how the regular swinger side windows would look with louvers, maybe even the back glass.

Just a thought but why not take them to a 3D modeler ,cad cam prototyping shop , they can trace them into a computer model which can then be used to either cnc mill a mold from either wood or metal or there are places that could shoot a laser into a tub of surfboard resin and create a mold that way , there is even a way now to 3D print objects from a 3D printer that creates slices that are glued together to create the actual object {search the 3D paper gun project} . I think if you are on to something with the vacuum forming idea if we can just figure a cost effective way to generate the mold we will be able to use it to go either way with fiberglass or vacuum formed plastic .

i have a pair of 77 louvers that im going to cut up and fab to fit A body duster/sport side windows. i havent gotten around to cutting them yet, but they will be good for vacuum mold if we can find someone that will do it. i think the vacuum forming is the best idea yet, cost effective and it wouldnt take but a minute to pop out a pair.

See....Even a Blind Squirrel finds a nut once in awhile! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There has to be away to get these done, without a tremendous amount of R & D expense and mold expense.. If all of us work on this together we might be able to find some places that might be in a slow mode from either the Auto or Construction industry.. There are a few names in the industry I'm connected to and aware of, that do vacuum forming. Green-Streak and Symons Forming. Both of these companies make heavy guage vinyl "Form Liners" for concrete. In other words the cool designs of rock in retaining walls along different areas of interstates, or a brick or stone look given to walls, or sound barriers. They make them in Light useage, Medium useage, as well as Heavy useage. We could do Medium to Heavy.. Just some info if you go that direction. The only thing I think we all will have to agree on, is what we want them to look like.. Probably won't please everyone, but if we get the majority, this might just work!

Wow, seems like at first this thread moved along pretty well. Now it seems to have "fizzled" out. I was hoping someone came up with something on the rear window louver, as I am still interested. Actually, I thought the original thread starter was asking about the rear louvers, and it shifted to the side louvers. In any event, I would be interested in either, but the light seems to be dimming all the time. :prayer:

Dimming.... I don't think so... Fizzling... Nope.. We all are just digging in and trying to see who comes up with what works.. Look at it this way, if one of us can figure this out at a reasonable cost.. We all win! (at least for side louvers)...lol!

i think im going to give it a shot not sure what materials ill use, but if i can make one good one ill find a a place to make me a bunch for you guys too. i have cad/cam skills but idk a place that would use the file besides sheet metal and that's too heavy. i took a few plastics classes in high school and should be able to bend some the right way using my house stove. ill get on it as soon as i can.

Okay... I got the Louvers today, and I plan over the weekend to carve on one of them.. It looks as if I cut the bottom rail off, and the next one above then re-attach the bottom I'll have the height. If I re-shape the the rear and cut out the un-needed plastic in the middle I might be able to pull this off.. Sounds like a plan! Hey 73Abodee, where are you at in your designs!

For anyone using "f" body louvers the only thing I have come up with is to cut out the window shape on the bottom side of the louver. Then I'm going to try to cut the leading top flat edge off shape and attach it to the cut out I already have cut. If I can dremel the edges to get it to fit, I might have a descent template to use for fiberglass, or maybe vacuum forming.. I'm open to other suggestions. Anyone?..
