225 turbo headers

This is by no means a fabrication ready drawing but I'd like to see something like this one day.

I just ordered header flanges last night to start my turbo manifold build. It will be a log type manifold pretty much just like your drawing. It will take me a while to figure everything out and it will not look super pretty but it should work perfectly

I wouldn't mind the stock manifold modified with the T3 adapter myself. I have seen some pics of a few that have had that done, but on a few I've seen the flange seems to not protrude far enough to me. Nice clean work on yours. I just need to get up with someone who is a skilled welder in my area.

Do you not like the PISHTA setup (the one with the 2.5"-diameter U-tubing?)

The advantage of that setup is in the fact that no welding is done on the exhaust manifold casting... none. Those exhaust manifolds are crack-prone and once cracked, I have read that repairing them in such a way that they won't crack again, is not the easiest thing in the world to do...

There may be good reasons not to use his setup, but from where I sit, it looks like something that I would surely consider for a non-race application.

What do you think?

Yes I do like that. I was thinking about something similar to it a while back but that was about as far as i got with it. Just a thought. Seeing it done puts a whole new light on how someone thinks of it. I'm always glad to see someone come up with a great idea and put it into motion. Thats more than I've done lately.

Out of curiosity, how many here would be interested in a bolt on product like this?

I would be interested, but I just got my flange to build my own last weekend so now I am commited to fabbing my own. I have no doubt that for the right price you will find interested people. Make sure to calculate shipping with your price estimates.

Bill - Has anybody tried to make a merged pipe for those Dutra dual manifolds? Seems like they've got the welding part down...[/

I have seen at least one set of Dutra Duals with a turbo flange. The idea was to install two small turbos from dodge 2.2 turbo. I made a set of adapters for standard Dutra Duals for t3 flanged turbos, but I did a single turbo.

I had a modified stock manifold like the one pictured earlier in the thread. My turbo was a t3/t4 hybrid, I think I added 4 extra 1/2" flanges and long studs so the compressor would clear the block.

is usually the biggest issue.


You guys seem to have alot of enthusiasm....but this stuff isnt cheap...and anyone on this path already knows that.

I know how to make turbo piping....and its not a fun or easy task....there is much fitting and grinding and fitting and grinding....tubing does not like to contort to the shape of Ma's exhaust ports....and its kinda another thing that makes a Mopar Guy jealous of the Ford and Chevy guys.....with their round/square ( not rectangle) exhaust ports...aside from the decent prices and choice of parts they have.

I could make a /6 header just like the one in the BluePrint drawing......but its not going to be $100, $150, $200, $300 or $400 dollars......figure if you want a Turbo Header....get ready to pay $500-$750 shipped to your door....or you can Stick Weld/ cheese hack your own crap together....and hope a Slag BB doesnt come loose inside your piping and go through your turbine wheel.

I like watching these builds where the Fabricator is using a crappy welder and poor preparation/fitment.......I cringe when I think of what is gonna happen to that perfectly balanced Turbine Wheel, when they really heat things up.

That PISHTA design turbo pipe is a miracle,...:prayer:......It does the job without getting Complicated/Stupid/Expensive.....1 pipe, 2 flanges.



Its not a 6 into 2 into 1, merged T321 V-Banded Stainless Steel Turbo Header with a built in wastegate mount......but it routes the flow quite effectively and utilizes the stock exhaust manifold....saving you /6 guys hundreds...if not over a $1000 dollars.

Unfortunately,you don't know how close we all came to simply scrounging around the
salvage yards for those manifolds!When the same engineers that gave us the won-
derful slanty were working on the "new" 2.2/2.5 4cyl. eng.,they also were running a
parallel upgrade of the/6,including an al. head w/double squish bathtub chambers
& a complete turbo setup identical to that used on the 4cyls.!Apparently,they must
have decided FWD was the future,and didn't consider it feasible for light truck use.

well,obviously the type of construction you chose depends on your budget,output
goals,and driveability tolerence.As far as FI vs. carb,,it is absolutely true that you
can make just as much power w/carbs,BUT!Superior driveability,better fuel efficiency,
and greater engine longevity WILL all come w/EFI.So will higher initial cost and the
tuning complexities associated w/ those systems,but if you can,it is definitely the
way to go!The biggest drawback to injecting the slanty is the distant location you'll
have to mount them in relation to the intake valve if you go port inj.
Power-wise, the stock valve sizes/cyl.displ. are close to the same 198/2.2,and
better 225 vs.2.5, a stock 2.2 TII makes 175HP w/11psi & modest intercooler.
That's a 257HP 198,and a 292HP 225 w/the common O/S valves keeping par.:happy1:

Would've been quite crude, much similar to the early Buick draw-thru V6s (from what I hear they were dogs) but it would've been a good starting point, would've at least got our foot in the door, and could've been converted to EFI w/out much effort (or maybe Ma Mopar would have beat us to it!)

That was much earlier, like, when the slant was first designed. 20 years or so before the one I posted pictures of. I believe I read about the one you are referring to in an article about an all aluminum slant in an early Valiant...

Doc out there in CA built an all alloy Valiant combo with the Hyperpak intake and 4bbl. I believe it hit ebay and went to Australia.

There is a guy in KY that has a slant race car with a billet aluminum head. There is a thread over at slant.org on that.
