New forum group, Nor-Cal Mopars

-
The Bay Bombs Car Club is having a car show & toy drive on Dec. 8. at Gilbert's Auto Body in Hayward, 2964 Arf Avenue, 10-4. Bring a toy or a $10 donation.

My car is already there, but it ain't exactly in show condition. But if you were looking for an activity...

Mopar Alley is having its Christmas party Dec. 1 at the Santa Clara Elks Lodge, 4:30-9:30. But if you're a member you probably already knew that.
where the hell is arf ave?familiar with hayward....

Is their party a members only event? Ill have to do some research on their club. I think this forum group should end up putting some runs together and starting a little club. I'd be willing to invest some time and whatever I can do to see this manifest into something. It would be so cool cruising down the freeway seeing a line of A's in front and back. I'm game to see this work. Capitol city mopars in Sacramento is a very clicky group and I wasn't real happy with the assholes I ran into. Besides most are E and B body guys. Not that there is anything wrong with those but they see to think that they are better than us A guys. Thoughts???

I'm down gt. Was hoping to move in that direction as more of us got our rides back on the road. looks like a bunch of us are there or damn near very close.

We should start our own show. Or cruise. That is once everyone get their cars going. I be willing to get some of the guys I know in marin and help organize. It will be awhile for me though to get my car going. I need body/paint and my interior done.

Sounds good 68gt. That's kinda what I was hoping for. If anybody needs body and paint let me know. I do it as a hobby now but looking to open a body shop in the near future with a good friend of mine. Almost done with a nightmare car that had more rust than good metal, then we are open for other jobs. I'd rather restore mopars than any other.

Im going to have to talk to you about this when I get some cash flow.

Yea man sounds good. You can look at my build on my dart vert and see my progress. Although its been slow due to multiple projects, I'm a perfectionist and know A's well. I think it's criminal how much body shops gouge people. I understand how tedious it is doing body work but quality work shouldn't cost 10 grand for body and paint. I would have been done on my vert if I hadn't done so many subtle body mods ( the right way ). No worries we have plenty of projects going but when you are ready we can talk.

Hey there! I actually am in need of some body work..I need a quarter patch panel installed on my 68 cuda....and a couple other rust spots taken care of.....what say you?

gtmopar, top of the line paint from PPG, Dupont or BASF just in materials, primers, paint, catalyst, clear can cost way over a thousand bucks, then add sandpapers, masking tapes. Cutting out rust, welding in new pieces and smoothing the metal is a lot of work and takes a great body man to do the right thing. No one wants to work for free. Of course there are more things by doing the right thing such as removing all the trim, door handles, interior etc. Body work is a dirty job left to professionals otherwise it would be left to Bondo Kings and who would want that?
I been a hand pinstriper for over 50 years and have worked in many a body shop yet there are only a handful who I would trust to do work for me and I am sure you would agree. There are shysters in all businesses who will gladly take your money without performing correctness.

I am sure you'll agree

Mopardude no problem. Ill let you know when I get caught up with the projects going and we can work something out. As for you hotlines my father and I owned a very successful body shop for many years and with 30 employees and huge overhead I more than anyone know the deal. We also got a huge break on materials because I bought 20k or more at a time. I've seen what other shops charge for materials and while I understand the cost to operate in California(which is considerably more than Oregon) I still feel its grossly inflated to the quality of work that's being pumped out. The reason we sold our business is because we saw the writing on the walls with the EPA and all the other regulatory bullshit that goes along with it. My friend and I do it as a hobby and to help supplement a little bit but by no means get rich. We ultimately do it because we love hotrods and see the amount of **** being pumped out of these body shops in a hurry and are pretty disgusted by it. Go to a car show and stare down the side of any car there and I can promise you 95 percent of them are wavy as all hell. That is my biggest pet peeve.

I will check it out. Sounds good though. Maybe we can work some trade too?

Mopar Alley is a pretty big group of guys, i'm pretty sure they put on the Ohlone College Mopar show every year. I could be wrong, but I'll never admit it.

Right -- Mopar Alley does the Fremont show. They are the biggest Bay Area club, mostly South Bay based. I've been going to that show for years. I just joined the club to stay on top of the other activities.

The Xmas party is for members & families, really -- it's not a car show at all.

Arf Avenue is off Industrial, just south of Tennyson (in Hayward).

hey i have your car on a shelf in my room.have the card too, next to a bunch more johnny lightning cards.

Cool. Here's a picture of it, for the other guys...

So who's going to the car show in Hayward at the body shop? It would be cool to meet some of you guys in person. I'm going to try my hardest to make it. Have had some electrical gremlins that have been screwing with me but I'm going to make it happen. Hopefully there will be clear skies and smooth sailing for everyone that is going to attend.

Just joined.
Looking forward to meeting you folks in person and definitely checking out your rides. My daily driver is a 99 Dakota and I have a couple 67 Darts but they are kinda trapped in my back yard at the moment. Been collecting a lot of parts to get them running once they are freed from the back yard.

Cichilidart welcome! Lookin like more and more folks in the Bay Area comin out of the woodworks. Be real cool to get 25 or more members together and have a non official/official club and do some cruising and mini shows. Most of all help each other out to get your rides up and running. That's what old hotrodders did back in the day and that was the focus of car clubs. Not who's car is better and who has more money.

If the weather is decent I will probably make an effort to go visit my car in Hayward <grin>. Probably have to borrow the wife's econobox, though.

Or, I just heard of an alternative activity (from Robert, on the California Melee list):

"The Mystery River Rally (rain or shine)

Looking for a 1 day rally with no fees and not much else?
Well show up in Rio Vista at 9:00 am on Dec 8 at

Rio Vista Bakery & Cafe
150 Main St.
Rio Vista, CA 94571

What we promise:
A) A route sheet.
2) A public park designated for lunch , so bring your own lunch or whatever.
III) The end point will be near Rio Vista."

Rio Vista is a ways from me, but it is sort of in gtmopar's neck of the woods.

Thanks for the info max that also sounds like fun. Ill look into it seeing that its right up the road from me. Doesn't really matter where the show is because half the fun is getting where you are going.

so....maybe i missed it. where and when is the show...ill try to make it in my rust bucket.
