Any suggestions in installing a slant mast exhaust and a aluminum intake. Made the swap last week and have a massive exhaust leak. Seems to leak where the intake mates to the exhaust. Used the staock sleel gasket. Do they make a fibre gasket? Used a stock gasket and I am thinking of using a Remflex. Any tips or suggestions

We have a member that has what I used it a thick Aussie gaskets.
Let me find the area in my restoration thread and I will post it up here for you
Do you have the washers on correctly ?

I'd check for flatness ? if ok then leave the intake and exhaust mating bolts loose until you get the manifolds mounted. that way the manifolds could slide to align a little better to the head, then tighten em up. the last set I did required me to take the set down to a machine shop and have it milled to fit with the aftermarket manifold. 30thou cut got it flat and it still hasn't leaked with the stock gasket.
I have an offy dual 1bbl manifold going on the 66 dart I'm working on and the manifolds look really close so I'm just going to use the thicker remflex gasket to seal this engine up on this engine.

I'm doing the same setup. I had the exhaust manifold re-surfaced. What are you doing about the seal for where the intake bolts to the exhaust? I think the problem is that steel gasket. wonder if there's a fibre gasket available

I just followed the dutra install instructions. (but I think there is a fiber gasket by remflex)I had to get 2 different manifolds before I got one to line up good in that area, I also did the grinding bit to get extra clearance in a couple of areas. right now the manifold is just wall art until I get my head redone. I'm going with the larger valves and a 60 thou cut on the head. I'm still debating on the block to see how much to take off and how much it'll cost. I'm pretty sure I'll have to go 30 over pistons to get the bores cleaned up and compression back to 175+. right now I'm 110 across the board. plus the pistons are pretty deep in the hole right now.

If you're going .060,why not take it up to .090 and raise your compression up a tad bit more for a little more pep in the step ? Should get you up to about 10:1 comp!just sayin !!

I want to add a turbo. so compressions going to have to stay down a little. I don't want to hit the 10:1 mark on this engine if the turbo's going to happen on it. I have the front part of another /6 dart that I'll be using to mock up the layout for my dart. It gets crowded in there with power steering and A/C so I figured I'd better mock thing up and then transfer it to the hopefully soon to be running convertible.
plus I like the dual 1bbl setup for bling factor for right now.

the Exhaust manifold I'm using did have a composite style gasket on it originally so some one has removed and replaced it at least once. hopefully it won;t crack or leak on me.

When I had my head milled 80 thou I also had the machine shop check and make sure the intake/exhaust surface was flat too. Turned out it was not, so it got surfaced too. I haven't yet decided which intake set-up I'll use but in either case, I didn't want to take any chances with leaks.

Dang. You have a couple sweet setups there.

How do those SUs run on a slant?

Whooeee! those are beautiful! I'd love either of those! since neither has the heater part that the exhaust bolts to you'd never have an alignment problem and I bet they will run SWEET!

I plan on using the triple SU since all 3 carbs have been completely rebuilt, matched internally and set up for a big six in my Dart wagon. Based on what I've read on an Aussie forum I'm on, they run pretty strong. I'm still on the planning stage for the engine, so I personally don't know how they'll run - I will report back when I get to that point. Was thinking about doing a 340 for my GT convertible but might have to re-consider and go with the Webers (since the GT was an original slant car).

Yes, they're definitely some sweet eye candy! You're right about neither manifold being able to mate to a stock exhaust manifold. Each will require headers. No alignment issues at all.

or you could run WAGGINS /6 dual setup (cheap at 150.00 or 200.00) can't remember what I paid for mine. look up..... ummmm, I think it's memikes thread. I thought he had a set on his /6 I haven't got my engine apart yet to rebuild it so I can not show ya what they look like. you can actually keep the choke but you loose the heater part that you usually bolt the intake to. I'm using a brace for mine but that's beacuse I'm hanging A/C of of it also. or dutra duals which is way out of my price range at this time (maybe on the build after the turbo one).yup found the post
here it is

Those Waggin duals don't look bad at all - sort of like the Dutra duals. Actually I have a Dutra Dual set-up plus 2 sets of Clifford (I think) shortie-style headers. The Dutra Duals won't work with either the triple SU or Weber set-ups but would be perfect for the Offy dual one barrel, Offy 4 barrel manifold or a Super 6.

Well I got the Remflex gaskets in the mail so tomorrow I'l change ot the gaskets. By any chance would someone know which header combo would fit a 60-62 Valient or Lancer?

Got the intake/exhaust installed. Used the Remflex and now no leaks. Now I need to figure out how to get this linkage adjusted

What are you guys typically paying to have your /6 manifold milled flat? I need to have that done myself. I would have adjusted but my INT/EXT mating bolts were just about locked solid so I took a chance and put it back on anyway. Lasted about 1000 miles before the leak got really bad. I've got to fix it before putting the Dart out on the road again for the year.

I paid 45.00 for mine to get done , but I got a super good deal I think. I've heard anywhere from 30 to 100 for it. And it depends on if you get the heat pocket milled to bring in the up/down alignment. I didn't need that but I went through 3 manifolds to get one that fit good to the dual 1bbl offy manifold. Of course now I'm going to be using "Waggins dual setup" so I'll have no alignment issues at all on the one engine.

Exhaust back-ribs stand out too far for the Al-Offie. Separate Ex/Int Mani's, clean surfaces on 3-bolt Hold-Together.
1. Tighten 3 mate-bolts to 3Lbs (no gasket). This give a base as to 'Where You're At.
2. Straight-Edge across Face of all 12 ports - rubber hammer runners to try a Face-depth alignment.
3. Toss on the gasket. Use nylon bolts on Ex-Mani@both ends to hold gasket.
4. Straight-Edge bottom of all ports - Establish How Much Higher the Int has to be raised.
5 Trial-Fit CARBON-IMPREGNATED GASKET MATERIAL 2mm - STACK AS NEEDED https://www.ebay.com/itm/GRAPHITE-coated-HIGH-TEMPERATURE-GASKET-MATERIAL- 300mm-x-214mm-x-2mm-A4/293257957116?hash=item4447894efc:g:cf8AAOSwd4tUH2LL
DO NOT USE the flimsy steel gasket - rarely does the height on ALUMINUM/CAST align.
IF YOU ARE 'CLOSE' BUT STILL NOT SATISFIED # FINAL 3-BOLT TORQUE-DOWN THEN TAKE
THE MARRIED INT/EX TO A MACHINE SHOP AND HAVE BOTH 'FACED' TRUE.
Takes Me 2-3 hours & 4 cups of Joe.
