New drag car

-
Same car. My friend told me to leave the converter in it and just run it with a little bigger chip. Should have left it alone. He said he wouldn't be afraid of 7000 in the 1/4 with a well built 440. Whats your thoughts? He was runner up last year at MoKan Mopar weekend with a white small block duster. I will be there with him. He also has a green duster he runs sometimes there. It runs in the 9.70's

what kind of rods does it have in it? if stock i would say no. I have eagle H-beams in my 440 and have shifted it at 7-7500 a few times to see what the car likes but don't remember what i was turning at the finish line. need to find out what your converter slippage is? do you know what your finish line mph is? thats to see if the converter is slipping to bad or not. also what size and stall was the one you took out?

What a whiney crowd. Don't care what the car runs; just, don't like the grill, hood. These guys always get beat by an ugly mopar. And maybe an ugly chebby.

supposed to be a 4000. I was turning about 6300 to 6400 through the 1/8th at 102.51mph with 28" tires, and 4.10 gear.

I haven't received any PM's but it doesn't show my inbox full? But its been doing some funky stuff. I also noticed any time I make a new thread it doesn't show up n the home page, just under the forum pages?

not sure what that was about, I didn't hear anybody whining?

the one you took out was 4000 or the one you just put in it was 4000/ also do you know what the 1/4 mph of the old set up was? sorry to keep asking about the rods but you have not said yet? well my buddy was so posed to look and see what my rpm was though the 1/4 mile last year but he kept forgetting to look at the tac.lol oh what kind of brakes does the your car have on it? also my best time so far through the 1/8 mile has been 6.70 at 101.90 but i have not done any tuning on the car yet. man if you put a set of eddy aluminum or a set of indy EZ heads like i got that car would fly for sure. but i think its running damn good for what you have right now.

Not sure on the Rods need to call and ask him. He was turning it that tight and didn't seem to worry. By the looks of everything else he has they are probably good rods, but not sure. The converter I put in it is a 3500 Fairbanks. I took out a 4000 Turbo Action. But it seemed looser ta 4000. Im just footbraking the car, but did buy a 727 with Brake last weekend I may try later this season.

well if its running 6.70 in the 1/8 with only a 3500 stall its runing pretty good. but i would put the turbo action back in it. but seeing how the car is pretty light it might not need a big stall converter to get it moving. I used to run a 8 inch turbo action in my 65 Plymouth that would stall around 5600 with a m1 single plane and a 1050 dominator and would stall around 5800 with a mopar m1 tunnelram. but my 65 weighed 3460 with me in it. but if he was turning it to 7 a lot of times it probly does have the good rods in it. also what kind of fuel do you run in it and what size carb. with my Indy ez heads and 11.1 compression i have been racing my dart on 93 pump gas. man that was a great by on that duster. if i traded my dart that's the kind of duster i would want. my plan is to get my 73 duster under primer and then take the drive train out of the 73 dart and put it in the duster.

He ran it on pump gas and 110, but said it ran a little better with the 110 so that's what im running. It only has an 850 holley on it, probably would like more carb. That's my next thing on the list to try.

Nice looking car, 75dartsport! I don't mind the grill, or the hood to be honest. Have fun with it!

with the cast iron heads i would agree. pretty good times for only a 850 cfm. have you thought about switching over to E85?? i want to do it to my car when i get the money. if you had everything set up for it i would let you try my tunnel ram out some time. i have two 750 Holley dp on it.

Im looking for a 1050. DO you have one for sale? I need a 4500 adapter also. OOP im already having fun with it. My last car was running low 8's in the 1/8th. I skipped right through the 7's, how much more fun could I ask for.

no sorry i don't have one. I to would like to try a 1050 on my car, to see if its faster than my tunnelram. my 65 plymouth ran 10.50 in the 1/4 but that was over six years ago and it would allmost stop on a dime, it had wilwood brakes all the way around. i know when i made the 10.66 at 125 in the 1/4 that i about pooped my pants when it was time to stop.lol my car just has drumb brakes in the back and stock disc in the front. also Ozark international raceway doesn't have a very long shut down any way.lol haaaaaaaaa, haaaaaaaa

oh if they haven't sold there are a couple 1050 dominators over on moparts for sell for a pretty good price.

With your weight , you should be able to pull a 3.91 with no problems at all.
Calculate your mph vs. rpm and if you have more that 10 % slip your converter would be suspect.
I think the T/A converter would be a better choice too.......something in the 4000 range will put the motor in the meat of the torque curve better than a 3000 piece.
I'd calculate your slippage and maybe try a converter swap first if the Fairbanks is leaving something on the table.
A 4.10 isn't over geared by any stretch. Maybe a taller slick to drop finish line rpm ?
I won't make a guess about how high to spin it , but with light pistons 7000 is not unusual in a big block.

Nice car. I use to not like those grills too. But they have grown on me.I like them alot.I had a 72 duster, and put a shark tooth in it.
I really love the hood.I just get tired of Mopar hood scoops. Not saying they look bad, I just got tired of seeing them. Why wouldn't I like your hood? I have one too! I think they look really cool with your style hood. The body lines go together.
Can't wait to see what it runs.I was running 4:89's with 29.5 tire, and was crossing at 7200. I went to 4:30's started crossing at 6200. I now went to 4:57's. Should cross at 6700 which is fine.I did this because of the tall 1st gear in the 'glide. All this at 10:87@123 MPH
I run a JW 'glide,JW converter, it stalls @ 5500, but I leave at 4400 on the chip.
3200 LBS w/me in it.

Nice clean looking car. everybody has there own likes and dislikes. I like that it a Mopar. Have fun!!

I also have to add. When I had it out it ran back to back 6.763, 1.55 60', and 102.51 time slips. I thought they screwed up and handed me a copy of my last slip. Till I really looked at them close and seen my RT was different. SO it is a real consistent car.

Nice car. With your ET, speed, weight, and gear, you should be able to knock at least a tenth off your 60' time. For what its worth, one of the guys that I race with has a Valiant that weighs about the same, and runs the same MPH (meaning he has the same power) and his car runs 6.58-6.60 with low 1.4x 60' times. Keep tuning and I bet your car will get there too... and have fun!

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. Im hoping to get into the 10.80's this weekend. Anymore than that is just a plus. And my car does just have the stock drum rear and disk front brakes. Guess ill be on them hard this weekend.
