Hello all:
I'm fairly new to the site. This past weekend my dad finally "knighted" me with his blessings in giving me the '71 Dodge Demon 340 (pics attached) as my restoration project (this is a TRUE Demon...not a clone). My dad is and has always been a Mopar man and has several. As far as I know I'm not hurting for any major parts, as the car was solid and running hard before being shipped to a body shop for paint. Long story short, my dad got shafted and the car just sat for almost two years. I do have a few concerns and welcome tips and info:

1) Original orange paint color: Any recommendations on a supplier for good paint?

2) Decals: I've searched for decals but always seem to find people/companies that claim they have the highest quality and resolution of decals, but there is always one or two commentors saying the decals are nothing but images printed from a laser printer.

3) A/C: air conditioning is a must. Any tips/help in this department are greatly welcomed.

4) Dash/gauge restoration: Any recommended companies? I've looked at the companies that country singer Kenny Wayne used for his gauges, etc. Just wondering if there were others.

Thanks In Advance

I'm a new member too!Cool car! Can't wait to see it done! Ppg and DuPont both work well the more prep the better the paint! Good luck

Welcome to FABO! Looks like you've got a great project ahead of you. Remember... 1 part at a time, and you'll get there (at least that's what I tell myself!).

welcome aboard. I'm relatively new also. That looks like you have a nice start there. I was going to post pics of my Duster this weekend, but I caught one hell of a head cold and haven't made it out to the garage. I'll get them up as soon as I can!

Welcome aboard...good luck and stay focused, you will have one killer demon.

Much thanks to everyone for links and welcomes. It is greatly appreciated! Look forward to getting started here very soon and will be updating with pics (was on the phone with mechanic last night). Very excited to be on the board. I may not be on here extremely often as I am finishing up my last semester in engineering school; don't want to lose focus.

If your looking for good paint and people. Try Moore's on Bob Wallace ave in Huntsville. I have ordered paint from James for many many years.

Cool your only 30 mins away from me. Did you got to the Tenn. Valley Mopar last weekend?

No sir...was actually in Mobile at the in-laws for Father's Day. Thanks for the info on local paint also. Been a headache just trying to decide on "where should I purchase" paint LOL

Welcome to FABO!
Is that a 3 speed stick on the floor? If it is, it's pretty rare.
Make sure you take measurements of the stripes on the hood so you can get them back on in the same location.

No sir...it's a 4 Speed Shifter...Hurst.

Thanks for the advice...actually just came from visiting a local paint shop here in Huntsville on my lunch break to see some of their work first hand and meet the owner face-2-face. Showed him pics and relayed the info that the pain job has to be done correctly. Although my dad gave it to me I know he will be pissed if its not done RIGHT. I can tell you are a real Mopar guy like my dad bc "the hood" seems to be his biggest concern also LOL!

...I thought the demons came with the snorkel hood...aren't those off a dart ?

Welcome aboard..wish my dad actually liked cars..

Grassy

This is very important.

Get involved with the local club, groups, and cruise-ins. You must network with local people to find out the best resources and the best valued resources for your restoration effort. Especially for paint and body work. That's your best way to not be in the bad paint and body situation your dad was before.

Are you looking for place just to buy the paint itself and then a place to do the paint and body on the car? The place that does the paint is the place the buys and chooses, or chooses with you, the paint.
