Which seats?

A100 or Jeep high back buckets?

Pros and cons to each. Jeep seats look more 'right', are more comfortable, more supportive and are possibly lighter than the A100s. Plus, they were free. I have new upholstery for them. I have to adapt them to the floor which is proving to be a pain.

The A100 seats are the real deal, NOS. Had 'em for a long time, like 15 years. I have the seat tracks and the mounting boxes but they won't be used. I'd have to get some seat brakcets for them. ($200 + usually) and they would be fixed.

I chose the Jeep seats for now but it may be easier just to bolt the A100 seats in until I figure out how to make some appropriate seat brackets which seems easy on the surface but its been a fairly involved process for me.

They're pretty similar in a lot of ways. What say you FABO?

If these are going in your A body, I say Jeep seat. I think those A100 seats would look a little out of place in there.

I used tradesman campervan seats in my pickup, nice lowback seats with the tracks build into them, then I just used 4 bench seat brackets to mount it to the floor of the truck

Oh gawd dude......high back buckets in an old A-body, to me, is like putting billet wheels on a Model T Ford. I couldn't even consider it. One thing I dislike about high back buckets is if anyone ever rides in the back seat, it makes their visibility suck more.

Although I should be recommending them and talking you out of those NOS A100 seats. :D

To me, the Jeep buckets look right at home.

Not concerned with back seat visibility. hardly anyone other than myself in the car. My 5 year old is in a jump seat and my one year old is still in a rear-facing car seat. Maybe if I banished my wife to the back seat. She's an excellent back seat driver. Would be OK though, less to see, less to comment on.

The real issue here is adapting the Jeep seats. It's a pain.

im not a fan of any high back bucket seat. just dont like them. but, do what YOU want. youre the one who is driving it all the time, no? :)

The A100 seats are sooooooooooo cool! If you don't use the A100 seats they are worth a lot of money to sell.

here is what i think.

pre- 70 gets low backs

70+ gets high backs.

I find my taste changing as i get a bit older. when i was just a young punk i hated bench seats and loved the bucket seat look. now i think a bench seat and a floor shifter is awesome.

only thing i dont like about the van seats is that the backs dont tilt forward for people to get into the back seat area.

I agree with your assessment of 70-back and 70+. The '70s body style does not match the mid-'60s seat aesthetic.

I had a bench with a floor shifter. It was all the way back and could not be adjusted because the shifter body was right up against the front of the seat. Plus it literally weighed 100lbs.

Here's a pic I dug up of an A100 seat in a Duster from a Steve Magnante article. Hard to see the overall effect but to me, it's out of place. Not grossly, but just enough to be slightly off.

id be willing to bet that a single bench seat that only takes 2 tracks is lighter than 2 buckets with 4 tracks.

No way, trust me on this. I wrangled it out of the car myself, almost broke my friggin' back. I can easily pick up a bucket with one hand and the Jeep seats seem slightly lighter than the A100s.

What does a bucket seat track/bracket weigh, a few pounds each? If I ditch the slider, it's less and if I get the A100 brackets,(aluminum) it's minimal, like a pound or two each side.

That bench seat is literally 100lbs of dead weight. If you read that Hot Rod article, Magnante claims a weight savings of almost 70lbs. I'd gain half back with another seat but you get the idea.

OK, for the sake of argument and science, I performed a digital bathroom scale comparison of the seats.

Jeep - 19.8 lbs.

A100 -21.8lbs.

So that is approximately 40lbs total for seats not including mounting parts. What the would seat tracks weigh, let's say 15lbs total if I use steel for brackets and drill them with 'speed holes'. That's a little over 1/2 of what the bench seat weighs.

If your going to the trouble, how about some seats with actual side bolsters?

I have the seats on hand, see pic in first post. Both are lightweight, bare bones and fixed.

Trying to keep a 'muscle car' look. To me, seats with a side bolster make the car look like a Honda or something which is 100% not my style.

Crazy, I feel the same way LOL!!!

Those A-100 seats are worth a whole bunch to somebody with a S/S 68 Cuda or Dart...maybe you could sell them and buy a set of really nice buckets...and still have a lot left over :glasses7:

What year car are these going in, is it a 70 Dart?

That looks better than a tall back bucket seat any day. :)

Do those Jeep buckets look like those silly Recaro seats? I don't think they look even remotely like that.

I'm in 100% agreement, I can't stand those late model Recaro/Scat/Corbeau type of seats. I wouldn't even consider putting something like that in my car.

And as stated above, some Dusters did of course come with a high back bucket seat so its not a stretch to use them.

the jeep seats dont look like the ricer seats. i was just hijacking your thread with my opinions. ha ha ha. I think either seat will be ok but im partial to the low backs.

I doubt it, those A 100 van seats are so light you can lift them with little effort and one hand, a bench seat takes two people to remove it from the car without damaging the paint and interior

If you decide to sell the A-100 seats. I have a need for them in my 68 NSS Dart.

Not selling! I bought these for my old '65 Bel I (between 98-08) and have managed to hold on to them for a while. Sold a pair of A990 seat brackets recently but they were for a B body.

I regret selling the real magnesium American Racing front runners I had for that Belvedere. I'm trying to hold on to my good stuff these days.
