I am looking to purchase indy ez heads for my 470 stroker. Was wondering who does everyone buy from? I am looking to buy the indy ez heads with the kit. I also would like them to be worked over.

Buy them from one of the head builders on this forum bare and let them modify them to suit your build. If you buy them direct from Indy you will end up spending a bunch of moolah to correct their lousey worknamship.

I bought mine from Nick at comp-flow. Great guy he ended up building my whole engine.
stroked 440 ez heads 702hp on pump gas

i agree, do not let indy do any work to them.

If I was going o put that much money into heads, there's only one person I would call on. Jim Laroy (IQ52).

Davescuda:
That car is bad ***! LOVE watching it leave the line, reaching for the sky.
702 HP? Are you in the 9s with that ride?

that is nicks car. my car is in the build process. hopefully it will be out for spring.

We have worked over a few sets of Indy heads. They do need some attention, a lot more if they are from Indy Complete. Best to get them bare and stuff them with good parts right from the start.

And DO NOT get the Indy CNC prepped heads. Complete CNC heads from Indy need a LOT of work. With bare heads you will get back from a good head shop ready to assemble, matched for your cam heads. Cheaper in the end and a whole lot less agrivating.

I have gotten heads back from MRL and IQ52 and can vouch for both shops. I have heard that Jim is getting kinda backed up lately with his new dyno.

I bought the kit from nick and up dated to better stuff and nick took the other parts back in trade. It Was cheaper to do it that way. He is very fair. Hard to beat his prices, he has a huge shop at his house so his overhead is way less than other guys. I was very impressed when I went there.

Jeff at Modern Cylinder Head did my EZ heads. Over 750hp on pump gas with 500 inches. I highly recommend him.

sorry to say this but Jeff passed away a few days ago. but i agree his work was top notch. i got my EZ heads from Dewayne aka porter racing heads.mine just had a very mild bowl port, touched up the valve seats and set the springs up to my solid roller cam etc.I am very with them. I have ran a best of 10.49 at 125 in the 1/4 with them in my 0.030 over pump gas 440 big block 73 dodge dart. that weighs 3520 race ready. but like what has been said but them from a shop like IQ52, MRL etc and not direct from Indy.

Thanks for all the information everyone. I'm not sure which shop I am going to go with yet, but my goal was to order the heads sometime next week. It sounds like I have a couple of really good shops to pick from!

WOW! I did not know that. How old was he? That's very sad, he was a great guy.

Cancer took him as I understand it. He was gruff to deal with sometimes - but the man knew his ****. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

To the OP - I bought mine as a packages from Indy and had my local shop go through the heads. They are really bad as delivered, even bare. With Jeff gone there are a couple places I know are distributors: in the Northeast (he's in VT) - Porter Racing Heads - Dwayne Porter, and in the East/Central - Bob George Racing (Ohio), or Indio Motor Machine - Brian OU812 on this board (CA). I don't believe you can go wrong with those distributors and they do decent work to fix everything. I'm sure the others mentioned already can do excellent work too - but I don't know who's a distributor for Indy.

Buy them through a place called shady dell speed shop here in state college Pennsylvania. He does a fantastic valve job and porting work and he knows his stuff when it comes to valve train , he was the one who built the 526 in my dart

I am paying my builder to machine off the Indy logo on the intake and mill the valve covers clean of their logo. F Indy and the lying counterboy josh.

great! he is a great guy. he will help you at any time. my only advice is to follow his advice and combo he recommends and the out come will be what you want if not more. too many people start with one guy then listen to another person and they chance something that was not recommend and the out come is not what you thought it would be. than blame the first guy.

I wanter 625 to 650 horse on pump gas. I went with everything he recommend and ended up 702 hp and 650 torque on the dyno

just one ore think. Other people here did recommend a lot of other great engine builders.

Are there any good people in Virginia that does head for on the Indy heads? I have a set of SR that I got that could use some work.
