HAH! I just got myself a free 440. Man had a shop here install a cam and timing chain. Turned the engine over and bent 3 pushrods. Shop told the owner, "She's ruined, we can't fix that!"

He contacted me and asked if I would haul the engine away. Even after telling him we could easily fix it and why, he still insisted he was tired of the big block and was going to look for a 318.

Congrats. You caint beat that.

Came with, all new by the way, chrome oil pan, timing cover, Edelbrock valve covers, and wait for it.........CHROME VALLEY PAN........yeah, you're reading that right, my very own chrome valley pan and a chrome cap for the oil filter. New Summit headers and a used SP2P intake (I'd never seen one before.) with a Holley carb. Best of all he threw in a pair of FE Ford heads.

You should have gave him a 318 for all that

"Here's the heads for that engine," he says.

"Whoa dude, them's Ford heads," says I!

He comes back with, "Well ya gotta take 'em with the rest of the stuff. I don't need em."

Then he found the 906 heads with the sunken exhaust valves.

We're keeping an eye on him. When he's ready for the engine, we'll have one for him, dyno tuned and all. He's got a '36 Plymouth in the field he's working on that gets the engine and we have a short block all stitched together.

:D

Nice

I bet if the cores are worth a damn, you could probably port them a little bit and sell them for a little profit to the right guy with a 390 in a pick up somewhere. FEs are oddballs, but some people still mess with them. If I had a '67 GT 390, I'd build it up

can you tell every one what cam was installed and the heads and springs you gave to install the cam,as some thing does not sound right, was it a solid or hydraulic, size and why you could not do it,mrmopartech

Dear Sir, confusion reigns!

It was not my shop that was unable to time the camshaft. After the other shop told him they were unable to fix it, then he brought the engine to me.

I told him WE COULD FIX IT FOR HIM. He said no, here take it, I"m going to use a 318.

Clearer?

LOL... reading is fun-d-mental.

I wonder if they did the old "I'm gonna advance it on the keyway then line up the "0" marks?" Thus timing it ~120 crank degrees out.

Can't beat getting a 440.

I got a free charger with a 360 in it like that once. "If you can get it to run it's yours." Took less than 10 minutes and he was so angry about it he said take it anyway. I like a person that knows their limits...lol.
