Who is the best big block head porter out there?

Has anyone used Performance CNC in Summerville SC? They have a CNC program for the eddy RPM's. He claimed 60hp with a port matched victor intake and his CNC porting service on my heads. 1,000 CNC port. 250 intake porting and port match.

Also talked to IMM engines in Indio CA. They hand port everything and want 1,500 heads and intake. He claimed 10.70's is what i'd see after he was done. He also wanted me to keep the performer RPm intake.

Also talked to Hensley Racing in Knoxville TN. 1,350 for stage III hand porting of heads and intake. He claimed hp in the 600 range and 10's.

Hughes is at 1250+the intake and they CNC port. He said 600hp and 10's.

Not sure of the place you mention. Might ask for references from them or ask around in Mopart's race section or Speedtalk.com. Personally I've had good results using Modern Cylinder Head. Jeff has passed away but his brother is just as good from what I hear and they've got programs for Indy, Edelbrock, and Source heads.

Heard good things about CompuFlow. Might want to look up IQ52 (?) here, believe he is in Idaho....

Performance CNC is about 5 miles from me. I knew about them, but I've had no dealings with or heard anything about their work. If you'd like me to snoop around a little, I may be able to stop in there early next week?

Second Vote for MCH....had two sets of small block eddies down by them

Options thus far:

Performance CNC
IMM engines
Hensley Racing
Modern Cylinder Head III
Compuflow
Total Flow Products
Dwayne Porter 802-951-1955
Hughes Engines
Competition Components
LaRoy Engines II AKA IQ52
MRL

Please do.. :)

I have had head work done by MRL and IC52 (Jim LaRoy) and was happy with both. I have heard that IQ52 is way behind on head work (I got in before they got their dyno and the turnaround for me was fine) so you better get a FIRM commitment. Best to do that with anyone you use as well as have a clear understanding of what is to be done and the price.

Who's MRL? Mancini Racing?

I have a question Rocco. Is this strictly a head upgrade, or will you be looking for a companion cam to go along with a new combo?

I will be upgrading from my solid flat tappet to a solid roller. (mid 250's duration and maybe a lightly smaller centerline)

Looking to go 10's.

Also leaning towards CNC porting over ye olde hand job.

MRL put up a post last summer about a stroker with a solid Lunati cam. It made some great power. After seeing that motor I changed my 416 from a PP292 hyd cam to the solid roller Lunati. Go back and look up the little blue monster Mike posted. That pump gas motor should make 10's easy.

IMO Mike gets a lot more low/mid lift flow. Might be undercutting the valves to get it.

UPDATE:

I was able to get by Performance CNC today. This is not what we'd think of as a "retail" type shop. The vast majority of their work consists of proprietary "secret" machining for engine builders and race teams around the world. As per their wishes, this was the only pic I took.

Me just walking in was somewhat out of the ordinary, they prefer a low profile, but after a few moments when they realized I wasn't a spy, lol, it was a very pleasurable experience. I met Dad (Wayne) and Son (Jason). We had a nice conversation and Jason gave me a tour of the shop area for 20 mins or so. The variety of heads in this place was phenomenal. Every brand you could imagine, some experimental pieces, 4 valve stuff and even some from Aussie land. One cool thing, there just happened to be a Rpm 440 head running in one of the machines that I was able to observe...Very cool.

They do a very limited amount of finish work, flow testing, and valve work. The are mainly a machining center for their particular customers who do all their own final finishing. They are staying busy, about a 4wk turnaround on CNC work, and up to 8wks if a turn key pair is needed.

Now, if they would just hire me...:D.

I talked to MRL. Great stuff, great guy and yes, he like lunati.

Fabo secret agent Rick,on the prowl...

Thanks Rick

Your welcome Rocco. I had a blast seeing some heads that i've only read about. W7,8,9's, some milder RPM's, a SBC head that must of been designed after a current Nascar head. It was huge and i could just about put my fist in the intake port. Had to be for a giant boost application, in my opinion. Some of the others, Ford included, I had no idea what they were exactly. I believe that some of their work comes from customers that have hundreds of hours on the bench/dyno and have them replicate their findings. Just being around all that performance/technology gave me half a chubb...:D.

They're cnc program for the Performer RPm is not theirs. They bought it from an outside porter. Not the first CNC business i've called that has told me the same thing.

Junk yard Ed , the real deal Fontana ca he's the best...and he is reasonable or d.i.y. It's not hard just get good carbide burs and have fun.

Speier Racing Heads was recommended to me by some members here. http://www.speierracingheads.com/. I'll be taking taking mine up to him within the next week or so. I don't have any idea what he charges but it sounds like he knows his stuff.

Ok, port job pending final agreement. Looking at 345cfm hand port with oversized valves and intake porting on the perf RPM intake.
