You are moving right along. I hope I can be to the point of the car being blasted by the end of the year. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! It's gonna be so rewarding cutting out all the rust and replacing it with new sheet metal.

Check out this chunk I tore off from the Lower quarter/trunk extension area. It amazes me that somebody spent all this time filling it with junk, but at the same time I'm glad there was no metal repair done on this car at all..

Wow great job so far your attention to detail makes me smile....i thought the front inners on my Demon were bad lol..i found the same kind of "repair" at the bottoms of my quarters too!

Thanks! Haha my inner fenders are pretty shot, which sucks because the other vin stamping was on the edge and is now long gone, but at least the trunk gutter one is perfect. Maybe the same kid owned your car back in the day too, haha.

I spent most of today touching up my missed spots from epoxying and lining up the door and trunk and i almost got them perfect (ill mess with the door a little more on the weekend) so I can start removing metal. I have to finish rebuilding the drivers side door hinges and then I can bolt the other door on and line it up.

No major updates yet. I got all my gaps perfect, so now the plan is to start the major repairs...

Here are my headlight buckets all restored with new hardware.

Drivers door gap. I also test fitted my AMD fenders and the door to fender gaps were perfect (forgot to take a pic) I'm gonna cut a window in the lower quarter and remove the outer rocker (one side at a time) and replace the rocker on one side first, then cut another window in the quarter and do the outer wheel well tub and trunk extension and then finally the quarter panel. Then I will do the other side the same way. After that is done I will do the full floor pan. I am going to pick up some 1" square tubing and brace the car for extra integredy just in case. My Dad figures it best to do all these repairs while the car is still on all four wheels to make sure everything stays true, then once it's solid again it will go up on a rotisserie.

Here is a nasty repair job and is the worst part of the rust... Luckily I have all the pieces to make it solid again!

Sept 22, 1969 it rolled off the assembly line..

Been extremely busy with work and getting the garage ready for winter, so the car has been put on hold for the last month. I've got the garage insulated (was about 50% done) and trenched the hole for the gas line to be run, so this Friday I should have heat! I started finishing the walls with osb but that will wait till next summer, i want to focus on getting the sheet metal done.

I know the feeling, the drywall taper is trying to finish up on mine so I can get some paint going, trying to beat the snow so I can get mine out of the trailer and in the garage so I can start. A real slog! Patient's is in order but I'm running low, LOL. Looking forward to more posts.

I'd like to see pics of your 72 Swinger special! Hurry up and make a restoration thread, :D.

Insulation is done, fluorescent lights are up and compressor is plumbed in. It's nice and cozy in there with the new heater, so I'll be spending most of my days in there working on the car! I Poly'd the garage door off this year because it's old and has a lot of drafts, so this spring when I finish the garage off i'll get a new insulated door.

This Saturday I'm picking up a welding tank so I can finally setup my new welder as well.

This weekend I'll finally be able to focus on the car!

Spent the day cutting the rocker off, it was quite a challenge but I got it! I borrowed my dad's plasma cutter and it made the job so much easier!! I have to do a few patches on the inner rocker, but I already knew that... No surprises. It's actually pretty solid on the inner rocker. Tomorrow I'll grind the spot welds down and test fit the new rocker, then sandblast and fix the rust spots, epoxy, drill the holes on the new outer rocker, apply weld thru primer and weld the new one on.

I also welded tabs to the bottom of the door so when I fit the new rocker I'll be able to put it in the exact spot.

I but welded a section in and ground it down (I left a little profile on it for strength, nobody will ever see it anyway) I got enough penetration on it to grind the other side smooth once I take the floorpan out. I have one more section to replace around that seatbelt nut.

I also test fit the new rocker and it seams to fit well.

spent some time on this thread and viewing photos of your parts!

earlier this year you showed a photo of the dash bezel -a repop I assume. well it is missing the cigarette lighter hole unless I am blind. all the other parts look great and correct.

I am paying a shop to do what you are doing on my 72 340 Special FY1 stick car

Thanks guys! It's slowly coming along, got a chance to work on it today and got the inner finished. I patched the other rusted piece and sandblasted/sanded it. I spent a good majority of the day setting the gaps and getting the new rocker to fit properly. I held it in place with a few sheet metal screws, so I can take it off and put it back on without worrying about losing my gaps. I also drilled the holes on the outer rocker (1/4" and 1-1/2" distance apart) hopefully tomorrow I can get some epoxy on it!

You're correct, the repro dash bezel doesn't have the cigar lighter hole, but it has the cutout on the backside and I do plan on cutting it out.

Did you import the car from alberta? Let's see a resto thread!

Nice work. Gonna be a sweet ride when it's done. But I am a little partial to 70 Swingers.

Thanks!

Today I chopped the lower A-pillar off the parts car and dismantled it so I can blast it and epoxy it. Tomorrow I'm going to fit the pieces and then take them to work and bead blast them in the cabinet. As you can see by the pics the lower A-pillar was pretty nasty! There was a mouse nest in there and that's what rotted it out.

It was nice to meet you and thanks for the inner fender. Looks like you are doing an awesome job on the car!

What brand are the blue clamps that you are using?

Looking good! had to do a very similar repair on my 69 swinger.

Thanks! Yeah I've been watching your build and your car is coming along nicely.. Fixing rust sucks eh?

Hey Rod, It was nice meeting you too. Thanks! Hopefully you put that inner fender to good use!

What brand are the blue clamps that you are using?

I got them from Princess Auto. I'm not sure if you have any stores in the US, but you can buy them online. They were $15 for four and are very well made. Power fist brand.

These are also very handy.
