No strokers here! Just what Ma MoPar gave you! Tell us all about your hot 383/400 creating terror in the streets, striking fear into the lesser and fools.
Or just your HP cruiser! Help your fellow MoPar breatheren out with what you have done.

Details!
Parts!
Specs!
Time slips ??????

383
stock forged crank
stock rods
.040" over cast pistons
8.0:1 compression
4150 carb
stock 383 victor intake
ported 906 heads
Racer Brown straddle roller from 1978
524 HP

Pulled the heads, intake and solid roller, substituted hydraulic roller, M1 single plane and mild 902 heads and it's now in the grandson's 4x4, 4spd manual, 3/4 ton pickup. 95 mph in the 1/4

68 383 non HP block bored .030. Stock std steel crank. Stock rods reworked with ARP bolts and KB400 domed pistons JE low tension rings. Block zero decked. Reciprocating assembly balanced. Lunasty solid flat tappet, .540, .563 261, 271 @ .050 on a 108.

Going with ported 516s and adding 2.14 and 1.81 valves. Compression will end up 10.4:1. Topped off with an old Eddy 383 Torker and a Holley 950 VS three barrel. Don't know what it runs like as it's still a work in progress, but that's the recipe.

'78 400 with forged 383 crank, H beam rods and ARP main studs, KB 240's zero decked. I have a Holley street dominator intake and a performer 383. Also have an Offy tunnel ram with a single quad top that I want to convert to a ram jet style port injection intake. I am considering stealth heads but not sure how I will complete the motor yet. Going in a '70 Dart with a four speed.

ive been thinking of building a stock stroke 400 for my duster. I threw one together out of stuff I had. honed and ringed one with a 383 steel crank, performer intake and the small summit cam, a rebuilt set of 906 heads and iron adjustable rockers. I have about 9,000 miles on it and its time to do something. the idea was to just get me by till I sourced all the parts for a 451. the crank I wanted, sold and now im finding its almost cost prohibitive to build a 451. for the money you can just go with a 440source kit. this is just a cruiser, I have to draw the line somewhere.
id like to do a long rod 400 with a steel crank, and maybe a set of stealth heads.

I'm doing a stoke stroke 400 in the future. RPM or Stealth heads CNC'd and a street solid cam. 240+ duration. I'll run a TQ for Ha-ha's.

A buddys1983 383/70 Challenger build. (following the D.C. books). Basic cast piston 383 Magnum short block. The .484 Purple, pocket ported 906's,stock valve sizes. 750 4779 double pumper,383 Torker .4.30's out back,Turbo Action converter, slicks.Everything low dollar, used out of the Direct Connection books(this was 30 years ago).

I wanted to run a tq on mine, I had a later nos truck carb, but I couldn't get it sorted out. was way too lean at cruise. it did pull nice when the secondaries opened.

'70 383 HP - forged crank, stock rods w/ARP bolts, stock 906 heads. Bored +.060, KB162s at zero deck, heads milled to bring static to 9.8:1 otherwise stock with performance valve job. Thin head gaskets, Comp XE268 cam, Street Dominator intake, 3310 Holley. Replaced the MP.509/stock everything else setup that was a turd. Engine runs great, idles smooth, rips the gears through 5500 (4sp car), runs on pump high test. Has about 35K miles on it since rebuild.
'71 383 - completely stock, 60K mile 2bbl engine, added a small MP cam, factory 4bbl intake and Carter AVS, kept stock logs and duals, added 175hp NO2 plate system. Absolute riot in a 4dr C body...

I'll be doing one soon but like many will have no idea how it runs. Stock '73 400. Crane 467/494 cam=old school. 516 closed chamber 383 heads with larger valves and bowl blending. Intake and carb undecided. Cheapie headers, 727 and 3.55's out back. Windage tray and some other low dollar add on pieces.

The nice thing about the big blocks is no matter what intake you put on top ( matching the set up of course) they all perform equally as well within a few ponies of each other.

Use a 650+ for numerical low (street) gears and a 750 for 373's and up for the street strip effort.

Freshly machined '69 383, .040 KB400 pistons, stock rods w/ARP, .528 cam, Muscle Motors Stage 1 ported Stealth heads, RPM intake w/ Bigs 750 carb.

This will be going into either my '64 or '66 Dart with a 4 speed.

My dad's 71 Challenger...Shortblock was built in the early 80s, with a shoestring budget. It gets torn down about once a decade to check it over, but has been bulletproof.

Early 70s 400, forged 383 crank, block has been decked a lot, stock rods/pistons, don't know the CR, cranking compression around 180 psi. Comp 292 .501 cam, Perf RPM, Holley 800 DP, Hedman 1 3/4 headers, and he added a set of Stealth heads with a quick bowl cleanup late this year. With a 10" B&M converter and 3.23 gears, it's clicked off a 12.6 @ 108. It ran 13 flat with the home ported 906 heads he had on there before.

He's putting 4.30s in it (I currently have his set and might be going to one of the sets of 3.91s we have or I'll pick up another set of gears) and is shooting for low, low 12s or high 11s next year.

Yes, and it's going Good. I'm just collecting parts for it. I'm slightly side tracked with My Magnum. It's the same ol'story, fix one thing and the snow ball starts a rollin down hill......

Better to get it now while I can before it becomes to late. Lord knows I love driving that thing!

The Duster has the engine and trans in it now as well as the 8-3/4 beauty I got from you. I just need to get fuel line from the tank to pump, shorten the drive shaft, re-do the wiring, get a drivers seat.... OH, and slicks.
E-Z - P-Z nice and easy.

I could use a set of SS spring. I re-used my E body Cuda's SS springs in it for now since the OE /6er's springs are good for paper weight or fishing sinkers at best. The car is so high in the air you think it's got a stick up it's back side!

You know I had to replace that 8 3/4 last winter. I needed one for the Dart Sport. HA!

This is close to what I'm working on for my 64 Dart. I'm still looking at cams. Been on the Comp cam dyno getting ideas. But I'm thinking about a eddy 800 carb with 1 7/8" headers and going with a hyd cam.

The block is date coded: 12/26/67 383 bored .030" over with flat tops. Intake is an Edelbrock Torker 383 with a 850cfm Holley center squirter built in the fourth week of June 1969.
Heads are 906 with hardened seats and the large valves and no porting.
Cam is a Hamburger 509 lift 292 dur.
Ignition is MOPAR Performance distributer, 8mm wires, Blaster II coil, and a 6AL box chipped at 6800rpm. (roughly 6200rpm shifts)
Headers are custom made 2" primaries, 3 1/2" collectors, 3" exhaust pipes and Flowmasters.
The best she has done in the 1/4 is a 13.20 since the car was severely traction challenged last time to the strip, and the carburetor at the time was not so good 750cfm Edelbrock with 235/70/15 tire. The traction problem has been since rectified but have not been back to the track.

Oh ya the best part about this car is that it is stupid fun to drive!!!!

OK Rob, the Capitan I have been drinking has put me in a story telling mood LOL :glasses7:

I bought a 1966 Chrysler New Yorker for a winter beater, it had a 1969 383 4bbl from a Road Runner and a 3:23 sure grip rear that a guy dropped in, that car hauled ***!!! Think I paid $450 for it...I was 18 and when I drove it home into my parents driveway my dad was pissed off....it was the first car I bought on my own hee hee.....When I bought it it had a Carter AFB bolted by only 2 bolts to a AVS intake lol...I swapped on a AVS carb shortly after....then went out beating the piss out of it.....it was the most fun car I ever had, it took a beating and then some....one Sunday night in town all the old cars used to hang out in a big parking lot on the main drag...right in front of the crowd I raced a 1966 Impala SS 396 car...and beat him!!!! He was so pissed....his car was restored and hot rodded...my NY only had an electronic ignition kit and a shift kit installed...Mopar Rules!!! My car had a bone stock 69 383 4bbl and the original c-body 440 exhaust manifolds.....

Here are some old pics I scanned of an average weekend we spent as punks LOL...the car could sure lay some serious rubber, even for a C-Body :burnout:
