Anyone tell me the differences in a late 60's barracuda rally dash and a 70 duster rally dash
 
Some people have different ideas of what a ralley dash is. This thread could get interesting.


I've only had 67 & 68 Basrracudas, no Dusters, so I can't tell what the comparison is.
 
I believe that both ralley dashes have the round "bullet" connector for the wiring to the dash. Versus the flat rectangular connector for the standard dash comparing my son's 71 Valiant regular dash to the ralley dash wiring harness.
 
I remember reading something about the way the numbers on the speedo and tach were positioned. Don't know for sure
 
I always thought that the ralley gauges had the 150 MPH speedo, but someone contradicted that in a different thread...
 
To my knowledge, 70/71 Duster/Demon 340's had a 150mph speedo and an optional tach. No performance indicator was offered to my knowledge. With the barracudas, the speedo was 120 (earlier models) or 150 and a tach or performance indicator was optional. I could be wrong. Here are pictures comparing the two side by side, notice the finish differences (silver vs woodgrain). For a fact, both of the dash frames are identical EXCEPT Duster's/Demon's had the ignition in the steering column whereas barracudas had them in the dash frame themselves. Also, thumbwheel radios were avalible in both models depending on the year.....

"Rally" dashes are the ones with the two large circular gauges (speedo left, 4-way gauge right), and a smaller circular one in the center (tach, vac gauge, clock or blank). This dash bezel was on ALL 67-69 Barracudas, and was not used on Valiants or Darts. It was revived for use on Dusters. There are several different versions of the bezel: 1967 had regular knobs on the radio, 68 and 69 had thumbwheels, and AC dashes were different in the heater control area. The gauge faces used different typefaces for the numerals in different years.

I personally don't know if Dusters had thumbwheel radios or knob radios. But I believe they were somehow different from Barracuda bezels, if only in some arcane detail like the lettering around the heater controls. They can be swapped for each other assuming you have the right type of radio, and with or w/o AC.

Yes, but I don't think that would effect the dash gauge cluster as the key is mounted below the cluster on the late 60's stuff and in the steering column on the early 70's. None of them interfere with the dash gauge panel. But it is a valid difference between those years.
 
Differences are radio openings and lettering on the speedo and tachometers
And temp controls
Other that that they are the same. On barracudas the 150 speedo was an option
for 67' thru 69'
 
not entirely , wood grain aside...

67-9 barracuda had hazard switch in the dash duster/dart did not.
all years offered a 150 speedo, was std on duster/dart
67 only had screw on speedo cable
67-8 had speedo numbers aligned with the needle
69 up including duster dart had the speedo numbers up and down.
67 and 71 had post radio
68-70 had thumb-wheel tadio
67 heater control is one year
Tachometer avail all years 67 was a one year only tach face
clock was avail 68 up -
vacuum gauge was avail 67-9
 
Would the lettering around the heater controls be the same on both dashs without air?I know the barracuda dash does have a flasher control on left side of dash that the duster dies not.Thanks for all your replies

67 inst' housing and bezel are different at climate controller.
68 and up are the same.
