'72 Scamp-not really a "restoration"

-
Actually I was curios as to how different the 71-73 Dart tail lights are internally to the 70 Darts/scamps tails. If they are a little smaller, then they will might just work. I have both, maybe I will do some measuring.

As far as tail lights go I'd wanna put some 65 impala taillights in the bumper \\:D/

I emailed Digi-tails and this was their response, I am excited!!!!

The 1971-73 lights will not work in a 70 housing. However, we are working on the 70 lights that will be complete in early May.

Thank you-I've been thinking about how I'm gonna go about it since I won't be able to touch it for a few years. It'll have to wait... :( After looking through a few dozen threads in here, I think I'd like to mount two basic buckets in the rear and close off the boundary between the cab and the trunk then put a console between them with a little bit of storage space and possibly some speakers facing forward...plan is far from solid.

Also looking at installing Calvert Racing goodies in the rear...inspiration from that one was courtesy of younggun2.0. Trying to decide between heavily modding the front suspension or just going HemiDenny fabbed K in the front. After doing some basic cost estimates, I'd only spend a few hundred more on the fabbed K and it comes with free better handling and almost limitless engine configs :)

I was gonna go with stock car Wide 5 suspension, I just stuck with stock modified still having to get rear springs and shocks and spent over $3000 shipped to my door(Firm Feel, PST and Summit)

Here's some of the front & rear end parts
1.03 torsion bars
2" drop sindles
16:1 steering box
tubular upper control arm
1 1/8 front sway bar
3/4 rear sway bar
adjustable front links
sloted and drilled 11.75 front rotors
(still looking for caliper brackets)
11 x 2.5 drums
(still looking for backing plates)
carbon metallic pads and shoes
B body 8 3/4

Haven't bought rear leaf springs yet gonna test out the suspension first to see what direction i need to go with the spring rate to balance it out.

Man, I'm jealous of that dash set up. I'm a big fan of the Green LED's. I swapped all the lights on my stock Dash setup to green LED's Just need ot get the wioring all wrapped back up before I can see if it's worth the trouble!

Nope...I'll probably just buy the kit when I'm gone and put it all together when I get home...

txstang - your name sounds familiar and the old GT looks familiar too. Do you post on DFWMustangs by chance?

Hi, I like the starter you chose and the way the exhaust pipe was routed. It offers better ground clearance. Could you tell me where i can buy those headers and starter? And if you had any problems with the exhaust being so close to the starter?

Thank you,

Louwtjie

Schnikes, I didn't even notice someone had posted on my thread-I might've created a screen name on DFW, but I don't think I was on there for anymore than classifieds...I also have the same name on Stangnet, modularfords, militarystangs, a couple others. I posted mostly on Stangnet though.

I didn't notice any heatsoak issues, but I did eventually wrap the pipe near the starter...I'll see if I can find a picture and post it. I bought the starter from DB Electrical, an eBay store. I think it cost me about $60 outright, and it was well worth it to me, but you can go to your nearest junk yard and pluck the exact same one from any Magnum equipped pickup/van probably for $20 or so.

The headers are Hedman, and I bought them from Summit, but if you read closely, the pipes which create the head pipes to the Summit 2.5" dual exhaust kit are 2.5" mandrel U bends from Columbia River Mandel Bending (I think that's the name). It took the shop about 4 hours to cut fab and weld those pieces alone. The rest of it was pretty straightforward. Overall, I'm pretty happy with that Summit kit, and will continue to be happy with it until I relocate my springs in to the frame rails...then the tailpipes will have to come off, or at least be relocated to clear the springs.

Now, on the headers, I will tell you this much; by the time I was done paying for the headers, mandrel bent sections, Summit kit, and fab/install, the tab neared $1k...there's pros and cons to either direction, but I think if I had to do it again, I'd drop the money for a really nice set of long tubes (TTI or Dougs...something that hugs the block)...changing those collector gaskets is a PITA and requires shorter wrenches, u-joint sockets, and lots of patience...a bottle of aleve would be helpful too.

Ok, so it's not my engine or my car, but it is a freshly assembled 340 with Edelbrock heads...going into my brother's '72 Scamp.

We're waiting on some more parts, so kinda on hold for a day or two Here's a couple other pics...freshly rebuilt 489 carrier with 3.73s and a new SG unit... The old J headed 360 with a nasty ring ridge... ...and the car.

Oh-and the homemade $10 tool used to compress the spring in the fwd drum of his 904...didn't feel like spending $50+ or waiting a week on a tool we'd only use once.

Woohoo! Well, after three weeks of working on my brothers Scamp and being inordinately frustrated because of hardware or tool issues, it now runs!

I'm trying to talk him into selling some unused parts...you think anyone on here might want a used purple cam or some .030" over TRW 340 slugs?

Great story and goals for the Scamp, takes time and patience (Lord give me patience and give it to me now!). I'm in Houston too, out on the north side, and we have the same name, how's that for coincidence? Good luck to you on your build!
