I am in a minor argument with a guy who says he found a Valiant Barracuda for sale. I said I had never heard of it, but know the Valiant base was used for the Barracuda. I believe the early Barracuda actually had some Valiant badging back in 64 but I never knew a dual named car existed. What do you say? Is he full of it, or am I under informed?

1964 Barracudas had a "Valiant" emblem above the rear bumper, I believe they were advertised when it first came out as a "Valiant Barracuda"

According to Allpar, your buddy is probably correct:

"1964 was the only year that Barracuda had Plymouth, Valiant, and Barracuda badging. It also had the Valiant symbol used throughout instead of the later Fish.

my 65 was a Canadian made Valiant Baracuda
my pink slip said : vehicle make - plymouth
: Model or Series - Valiant
did not even say Barracuda on the pinkslip, LOL
hood badge said valiant and so did the trunk lid
Barracuda appears on both fenders and on the inside of both doors.

Definetly a Valiant Barracuda.
Cheers.

It might have been called a Valiant Barracuda by magazine writers but I don't believe Mopar ever did. I couldn't find it in factory print. Sorry the dealer sales book didn't copy larger. tmm

Canadian Barracuda
(by Bill Watson)
Barracudas were built in Canada only in 1964 and 1965; model numbers were VVX1-P / VVX2-P (1964) and AV1-P / AV2-P (1965). All other years were imported.
The early Barracuda was marketed as a Valiant, and not as a Plymouth. Engines were similar to the U.S. - the 170 was the standard six, the imported 273 was the standard V8. The 225 was optional.
The Formula S was available in Canada in 1965, but it was imported. Interiors on the 1964 models were identical to the American version, while the 1965 Canadian Barracuda used the Dart dashboard. The 1964-1965 models had "Valiant" on the front and trunk lid, not "Plymouth." On the tail end "Barracuda" also appeared below the trunk opening. Starting in 1967, they were marketed as Plymouth Barracudas.

my first car was a 65 valiant barracuda 273 v 8 commando...it said barracuda on the side of it with the big v under the glass on the rear and on the steering wheel..

They were technically Valiant Barracudas in 64 and 65.

Then finally became "their own person" in 66 and were then designated as Barracudas.

I know that it sounds "fishy"....

The 64 Barracuda had "Valiant" in script on the panel directly below the right rear corner of the decklid. The 65s did not have this. The other tell, other than the VIN, was that the 64 model had pushbuttons for the automatic. The 65 had a lever on the column, unless, like the 64 model, it had the consolette shift ordered.

They were called ..........

The 1964 Plymouth Barracuda had a separate 'Sales Brochure' from the Valiant Series.

Way back in the late 50.s Valiant was slated to be a separate division like Plymouth and Dodge I believe 60 Valiant did not have Plymouth Badges on them.
