360 292/508 cam fast simple cheap builds

Bolt in the new cam. Cheap as it gets.

You need a pretty high stall for that cam. It may sound sweet but it was a turd in my car.

My 74 dart sport ,that cam and a set of x heads, really small headers has ran a 12.31 @ 109mph. There's better cams out there but that will do pretty good with some tuning

A good cam if ..........everything else is in sync with
the build.
As with anything you need to know what the cam/motor
capabilities are and build the rest to that capacity.
Miss matching will suck no matter what cam you use.
And yes I run one.

73 dart sport will b giving it a weight reduction,Im starting with 275/60/15(28) 410 gears with limited slip diff(8. 8) ford explorer rearend narrowed 1 side, disc brakes.3500-4000 coan convertor, may build a 904 trans, quench 0 decked 360 with kb107,iron ram magnum heads.mopar purple 508,m1,vic victor 340 or rpm air gap.750 holley dp,elec.waterpump.alum rad. Really? I know there r die hard mopar 508/509 cam people here somewhere.with the bigblock use stock everything except 67 915 closed chambers,509 cam,tm7 or equivalent intake, holley dp,3500-4500 stall 391-456 gears 28-30 slicks, pump gas mid 11 second b bodies.im un it for the 360 though.or will hear 340 ones the outcome is very similar.

OK guys, got a ? for ya? I have 380 hp crate motor and the cam appears to be 288/292 duro, and 501/513 lift. My question is just how big of a stall converter do I need for this. I was told around 2500 but I see one of you is running 3500/4500 stall. It'll have a 904 behind it. As for gear it all depends on what is recommended.Right now I'd like to run around a 3.50/3.90 range. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Jim

Hi Jim. I don't want to step on someone else's thread here, so it would be better if you started your own with this question.....maybe in the "trans/drivetrain" forum.

With that said, we need to know what the main use of the car is you'll be using it for? The 2500 stall with a good tune would be workable for a driver/cruiser type application. If you're looking for 1/8th or 1/4mi et's, upwards of a 4000 stall will give you the best numbers.

You seem to be a little testy so I'll throw a dumb question your way. You seem to already have the combo in place. Are you just wanting to hear other peoples combinations just for entertainment or are you rebuilding your entire engine based on this cam choice?

Im building one right now, 360 + .030, KB107's, .509 Cam, mild ported 308 heads, probably air-gap intake, 750 double pumper. Not sure what it'll run, like mid-high 12's as I have street tires on a 70 duster with full interior and 3.91s.

He does seem a bit testy doesn't he? Sounds like he is demanding that people respond to him. He has two threads going on the same subject. I don't know much , but what I do know is that the 509 BB cam is much more popular than the 508 SB one. There are just not that many people running them , so he can't expect that many responses.

Here's a novel idea: Let him buy the Mopar Performance / Direct Connection handbook.(Available,at your local Mopar dealer) He likes this cam,he can build the car around it. He wants a definitive combination, there it is. Follow the instructions....Might as well pick up the M.P/D.C. chassis book ,too. You will need it.

Im looking for people who run them.reference, yes im building around this cam!im not demanding anything.I moved to this section hoping for better luck.abodybomber I had the book it got lost or is in one of my darts I sold.I do have to buy another.u can read it in a book I figured people run them and would post the luck they got out of it thats all didnt mean for anyone to give me crap about it.

The cam seems a little big for the heads to me.

Have they had any porting?
