As of late I've been thinking how cool it would be to make a model of how I want my Duster to turn out and add some of the custom touches to it that I wanna do to my car, the main one being the challenger style hood like badass71 has on his Dart. So that got me thinking, could I get a 1:18 scale 72 Duster kit and a 1:18 challenger hood and cut and plastic weld them together to get the look I want??

So that's pretty well what inspired me to start this thread, I would like to see all the custom stuff that y'all have done with y'all's models whether it be grafting parts from other kits, engine swaps, wheel swaps, custom one off parts, stripe kits, adding turbos/superchargers, etc. let see your skills guys!! (Cause I sure ain't got em...) lol

OMG....where should I start?

Taking a busted to crap Die cast 69 Charger and making t have EVERYTHING a regular 1/24th scale model would have?

This Panther Pink 69 Charger is die cast, and was in a mess when I got it for 50 cents at a yard sale, I'm merely bringing this model back to life! The motor compartment had nothing in it, was an insert that went in there......Not anymore!

OR a custom done 70 Challenger with newly fitted Hemi (nahhh you've already seen that!)

A 69 Daytona that's gotten the Hemi removed,. to add in a 440? Not much done to him.....(The removed Hemi, is the same one that went into my Challenger!)

A 67 Charger, with the 426 removed, to be replaced with a 444 Ball-Stud Hemi????The engine is completely my own fabrication, it was NEVER offered as a model engine!

Caleb, you've seen my dual blown, twin turbo 426 DOHC Hemi, right? That's going in a 1965 Dodge A-100 pick-up (Ex. Little Red Wagon model) that's going to become a monster truck, called "Doomz Day"!!!!!!

Something to keep in mind on the big Hemi here........ ONLY the blower belts are hand made! I turned the pulleys with a mini metal lathe, and hand formed the "belts" with a aluminum form that I also turned!

There will be more to come! Look close to the 444 Ball-Stud Hemi. its got wire looms and everything on it! Not sure but in the last pic of it you should be able to see a loto f the added details....

See, I'm doing a few models from my days of owning a shop, BUT, to that, I'm also a pretty good builder as well......SO, with that said, I'm doing up a few contest quality models, as the competition is steep, and the earnings of a win are great........... (worth my time at $1,000 first place!) What do I have to loose? a bit of time, I could be doing absolutely nothing? Ya know? Its a long shot, but I'm not out but some time and about $50 total.....IF I don't win anything, hell if I come in 3rd place, I still get $300!

Wow John! This is exactly what I was lookin for! The DOHC Hemi is insane!!! That 444 is also very impressive!! Good luck in your contest!!

Caleb,
you think this is something? You ought to see the scale model trains I've built and can still build..... LOL and they actually "run" like race track cars on the old "Tyco" race tracks. in HO scale. I must say, I got one HUGE HO scale train collection with engines, as long as my arm! A lot of them hand made, others kit bashed from existing models into something other then they are, and then some, taken factory items, and just super detailed the absolute crap outta them......

Once was, big money doing that sort of work!

But, thanks! It keeps me somewhat sane in an otherwise crazy world, and sane to the point of not doing a lot due to the health and crap as I got a bit of healing yet to do on my legs....With a bit of added nerve damage, doesn't help it either....

BUT, the model building allows me to do something thats not extreme as i'd love to be able to just go and run my table saw a bit to build something from wood, but even that at times is too strenuous, at least the continued standing "on my feet" takes a toll every now and again!

well its a work in progress and this thread is getting me motivated to work on and finish it. :D

I originally got the model kit because i was thinking 50s car are cool and as i looked at it more......i think 50s cars are grandpa cars and mostly BORING and just not coca cola.......so i am trying to make my model kit interesting and exciteing and since i absolutely love wagons of all kinds.......i am....how am i to say........making a wagon that is bad as*.

My goal is to make it a gasser wagon.....becuase that fits my style :glasses7:

So far i cut out the back seat area to make a flat area so it looks like a panel and i am adding a 426 HEMI from a 68 roadrunner kit.......and i cut the bench seat in half to make bucket seats....i extended the roof using plastic from a junked caboodles kit:rambo:

the wagon project still needs a whole bunch of body work because when i paint models....i like to use real car paint....that way a cut and buffed finish can be accomplished with shine like no other.

this is a 70 roadrunner kit i did some time ago....i made it into a sport satellite since i have a real 70 sport satellite in EF8 green.

It was this project that taught me a lesson about the tints in greens when using the PPG Omni AU system. Greens in omni lack brilliance.......i used EF8 green mixed in omni on a 69 GTX kit and it came out kinda drab.......the 70 satellite above was EF8 green in the more costly PPG DBU system and WOW what a difference in brilliance and tone.

So now if i am ever going to paint a real car in any shade of green......i know now that spending more money on a better system is money well spent for a correct shade and very nice presentation.

yes, i am a nerd ....i spend too much time in the garage with this stuff ......dont even get me started with slot cars. :D

Rani,
No kiddin! I would have not guessed you to be a model builder and i got to say, nice work!

The wagon is definitely different....Not in a bad way but different!

I got to ask ya now, what sort of "junk" pile you have for parts? I ask as there are some, I'm looking for, to build a couple family members cars, I remember growing up, and some I just can't seem to find!

yes yes ....same reaction for everything i do LOL ....nobody ever guesses i am interested in the things that i am into. Such as HO model trains ........when i was younger i started buying bachmann and tyco train stuff in HO scale but it got too expensive.

Sadly i sold all my model railroad stuff but it wasnt all bad because the money i got from its sale is now a 4 speed in my dart

But i still like to go rail watching. I go to a an old depot in a near by town when i am sad to watch the trains. I prefer either first generation diesel or the modern stuff....Like the AC locos of today....i dont really care for grandpa steam locos.

When i had my old train stuff i ran a fictitious road named the "NEW ROCK ISLAND" mainly because my favorite road name is the "Rock Island" ....what a magical road and i loved their paint schemes.

i have tons of books about rail stuff.....i love it

So now i am getting into slot cars because its cheaper and easier to maintain than the rail stuff. I dont have much room to set up stuff like that because i still live with my adoptive parents....so a bedroom is not enough room for a full on rail empire.

As far as models .....i dont have much in the way of spare parts......i went to a garage sale one time and found a 68 roadrunner and 70 duster kit (i only buy mopar)that i use for parts and also i have 69 GTX parts. I had a 69 GTX kit and i messed up the body because i painted it in winter with the slow hardner so it was taking forever to set up and i got impatient ....so i had the bright idea to put the body in my easy bake oven to make it to dry fast and it didnt work out so good because i messed it up :banghead:

Love the wrinkle in the body in your pic. Reminds me of this car on display in Minnesota. tmm

Rani, OMG this is terribly funny.... LMAO, don't take me wrong, but. have a look here:

http://s235.photobucket.com/user/Yellowstone_Train_Repairs/library/

That WHOLE "photobucket" account, is mine, you will find a list to the left on the screen. you want to see trains, OMG.....

I used to own a shop....YTR (Yellowstone Train Repairs) as I grew up with the B&O down the street, and the Western Maryland RW up the street, within 2 blocks of themself!

So, my favorite railroad? Yep. The B&O....

The Rock Island was a great railroad even tho they went under what was it BN? I think....I haven't read through the whole book on the mergers yet.....RI was in the days of my era of the Chessie System.....I got TONS of items. you ain't seen anything yet....

Nerd? Yeah, I'm one, BUT I also made good money at being a Nerd too! LOL

AND I've always been a Mopar fanatic....

ENJOY! A lot of what you'll see in my photobucket account, is stuff, I've built, customly for my self, and for others repairs I've made, and engines I've taken "before" and "after" when completed....

As far as models, your lucky! I've been watching out for cars at yard sales but have found absolutely no cars, paint and glue, yes but no actual "model cars" or even trucks yet.....

Mike thats SO WRONG posting such a nice Mopar, to be "trashed" like that!

It looks to be a 69 or a 70 Roadrunner, is it? Could have been a GTX too. errr difficult to tell in those pictures!

70 for sure ......looks too plain to be a GTX and by the color and personality i am going to say roadrunner.

I have a 70 sport satellite and it came with the same grille and trim as a GTX ....only difference is that it had a 383 where the GTX came with the 440. The odd thing about sport satellites is that they came in 2 and 4 door which dont make sense because the words sport and 4 door make an oxymoron like the new charger.

either way you are right....its painful to see any 70 B-body trashed. :protest:

BTW......is that Nick Nolte in the pic??

Rani,
OMG @ Nick Nolte comment....... LMAO I was thinking the same thing! I actually think that might be Mike himself!
