Before I read up on the SS springs I bought a pair, thinking they would do the trick for my setup. Now I'm thinking a stock height but stiffer was what Is should have gotten.

I'm thinking about buying a house and I really don't have the cash to get another set of springs. My old springs are reverse arched from age and wear, so I really don't have a reference to how high the car will sit with the SS springs.

I was thinking I could afford a set of adjustable hangers or I could flip the factory hangers with a little modification, that will drop the springs 1" to make the SS rake more livable.

Does anyone have pictures of a 64-66 barracuda with the SS springs installed?

Install your springs and see what you have. Then decide if it is a problem and how to correct. It also depends on which spring that you have, automatic or manual and weight.

Since I'm having to work out of a small storage unit It's not as easy as that for me. If I'm going to put the springs in I'd rather not have to pull them back out. I have a 360 with the push button 904 and that's about it. Rear end is the 7-1/4 factory setup. Springs are "002" and "003" SS springs. I guess if I knew factory ride height I'd have a better idea of how it will sit. Like tape measure from the ground to the wheel well lip.

Sorry, the springs on the 66 Barracuda are just rebuilt stock units. It is 21 1/2 inches from ground to rear wheel lip. On 70 Barracuda I never saw a height increase with SS springs on rear and normal daily driving, I did have to remove the rear sway bar, due to handling with SS springs. On 65 Coronet SS springs are installed, but not driven yet. No real height increase noticed. I did not measure before and after.
On 66 Barracuda it has a 8.8 rear end installed with 3.27 new posi from Summit and 31 spline axles, using 2 short side lengths. On long axle I had it cut down to short length, to keep axle twist in same life time direction. Only real issues were spring perches and axle mounts for 3 1/4 axle tubes. It has not been driven yet.

no need to be sorry, I didn't supply enough information.

I'm hoping to do either a 9" or an 8.8" rear end on mine due to availability and cost effectiveness.

Thank You for the numbers on the ride height. I think my baracuda is around 19-3/4" ride height with half a tank of gas and nothing in the trunk.

If it goes up 2" from there I can adjust the T bars to suit my ride tastes. I'm looking for level or just a hint of a positive rake.

The 65 Shelby Mustang will bolt right in even down to pad mounts, BUT my god what are the costs and then add rear brakes. 3500 is costs I came up with. 8.8 Explorer 31 spline total costs with driveshaft installed was 1600. Even through I narrowed the long side, it might have fit and centered better if I had not. However wheels are so common offset that you can forget about any problems with them. Custom parking brake cables and master cylinder are NOT included in that price. Rear discs, drums could have used old cables and bolted right in, but the owner LOVED the rear discs.

Explorers are so common at the wrecking yards and cheap base cost.

Hmm, interesting. I know a place on ebay that will do any gear ratio you want, any length, and any spring pad location 9" rear end, with rear disk brakes for $1800 plus $150 shipping.

I have a driveshaft shop not too far away that can do the mods on that end too.

But if I can get a pre-setup 65 shelby mustang one (aftermarket and what not) then that helps widen my search criteria.

The you pull its near me a truck rear axle is $150. I have a buddy who owes me a favor from when we pulled an axle assembly for his rwd Dodge Daytona conversion from a Camaro.

Sounds like you are wanting the ride heigth that the HD suspension gave, a slight downhill look. I am also considering going back to my hd springs from the SS springs.

Was fun at first, but 5 months later with the stiffer ride on the rear, want the more comfortable ride back. Cornered well before, the SS springs I got slightly used for cheap, so I gave em a run. Will put them on my new project car instead...

Different tune now. I have to agree with the one guy on that other chat now, saying he didn't see why someone would want them on their street car.

Yep. These are without a motor installed so it was sitting pretty high in the front.

I have the ss springs on my valiant but, I modified and flipped the front spring mount ( also had to shim the axle for the correct pinion angle ) ride height is nice in my opinion.
sorry about the poor picture its the only one on my computer at work.

Thanks for the pictures! I'm liking the flipped shackles look with the rear end shims.

If I get that far I want to go that way.

The 1600 figure includes: setup, base cost, new gears, new Ford posi, bearings, rebuilt rear brakes, new hoses, Alum. driveshaft(used) complete, cut housing, cut 1 axle and everything else that was used.

That's a really good deal for all of that!

Man wish I was closer to Texas. I did some work in the Dallas Ft. Worth area and loved it out there. Scenery was good too ;) Much better than the times I've been to California.

Put them in my car, this is how it sits now:

I'm not 100% sold yet on the rake. I may get a set of drop hangers to see what I think of it then. If I like it I'll get degree wedges and what not.

I had said that I had put the SS springs on my Coronet, I had not said that I had them before on my 69 AMX. Reused the main leaf and redrilled the centers for that installation. It was hard to predict the handling and traction so went back to stock setup on that car and reassembled the springs back to SS.

Does the ride work for you? I had used lowering blocks on AMX to get the height correct. Just a idea.

The way your talking, you are not going to like the SS springs. They jack the back pretty high, and the passenger side sits even higher. Stink bug look. Great for time slips, but thats about it.
Just get yourself a set of stock replacement springs. Thats all you will need for another 25 years.

The only thing I don't like about it is the ride height out back. I like how it hooks up already, and i like how stiff it makes the car. I'll be looking at drop hangers and degree wedges vs. 1" blocks. Want to put in new U bolts anyway.

Looks like you are opening a can of worms. Drop hangers and lowering blocks will completely cancel the design and functionality of the SS springs.
Your going to spend more money chasing your tail, instead of doing it right the first time. Cut your losses.Get yourself a set of stock replacements, and sell the SS springs to someone who can use them. Or put them on the shelf for a future build.
Your car, your money....Good luck !!

Im in the same boat as johnny dart. wanted a stiffer spring in the rear of my 66, but im not a fan of the "buttrock" at all. priced out stock replacement springs from a local spring-builder here, its under $200 with an extra leaf added in. for me it was a win/win. just an idea. good luck!

If I remember correctly, the super stock springs only raised my 273 65 4-door Valiant about an inch. To accommodate a 1970 Challenger rear end and 10 inch M&H slicks (26.3") diameter, I actually flared my rear wheel wells on the outside and it looked pretty cool.
