Best Headers for 318 in a 72 Dart?

-
Depends if you have deep pockets like some on here or on a budget like me.Deep pockets go with the TTIs,on a budget i used Hooker Competition on a SB 67 Barracuda and they fit like a glove.318,727 with power steering no dings or dents but they are a snuggly fit.

Dead on,W.D. The budget headers, sometimes needs "dinging/dimpling" the drivers side. A good move to help, check the engine mounts for oil soaked/ worn out. The better fitting headers, usually cost more. Hooker Super Comps & Comps, personal experience ( decent to work with). Flow techs, were a pita on a '68 Dart.(spend the extra money on Comps on a budget,J.M.O).

Thanks for all the info. I do not want to give up on headers and go with the stock manifolds. They just don't look right in a muscle car!

I'll say that Doug's were worth it for me. I used to say I would never spend that much on headers for a damn 318, but after fighting with and bashing up the car with the generics, I caved in and am happy. I have no idea what brand mine were...but they look the same as all the regular Hookers, Hedmans, Flowtechs, etc that I have seen. Those came free with the engine, lol.

I found Flowtech Headers #33100FLT.They seem to be a more universal mopar header and I don't want to beat them up to make them fit. Has anybody used these?

tti or dougs are the best fitting ones out there.. plus they don't hang low as hell like the cheapo headers. they also don't cover #5$#7 plugs so the plug wires are a lot easier to run without burning them all to hell.

if on a budget (most of us are) then just sell some stuff you're not using, pick up some OT at work, or whatever it takes to save for the dougs or tti headers.. you'll be happier in the long run.

they are just cheapo headers like the headman or hookers that hang low and burn plug wires..

All I've ever used are cheap *** long tube headers and I have NEVER burned a plug wire nor have I had to bash them in to make them fit.

Do NOT buy Flowtechs.
You will be beating and twisting them and inventing some new swear words along the way.
They are worse if you have power steering.
I installed a set on a '69 Valiant 318 auto. I'm either going to change them for something else, or put the stock manifolds back on.
Out of all fairness to them, they are designed for B and E bodies i found out later.......

Im in the process of fighting in the headman 78050 in my 71 318 Dart.

I saw a bunch of threads saying that these fit great, They dont..

No 7 tube is gonna need a substantial dent to clear.the PS...Not happy about it.

Hot wrench an ballpeen = almost fit...

spark plug wires gonna burn.

Not stoked on Hedman part number 78050 on a powersteering 1971 LA 318 Dart.

The Headmans are in.
3+ days fitting the driverside and twenty min installing the passanger side...
I did have to remove the 90 degree oil filter fitting (Preorder the gasket set for this) and the bellhousing to block brace per instructions..not able to reinstal brace.. (not happy about this) and dimple No7 tube yet again. This time to clear my starter...

Got the high temp boots, Thanks Abodybomber!! (Not stoked the hedder design requires these)

I dont see any way to check/change No7-8 plugs without raising the engine and pulling the hedder? (FU#K!!)

Other than everything listed above they are in and dont seem to sit Tooo low.
Ill see once I get a few drives in.

if your car sits stock height then you'll see how low they sit soon enough. if you are running taller tires and the bars are cranked up you may not have any problems..

the headmans surely sit a lot lower then this..

headman (rusty) compared to a tti. can see how much lower the headman really is..

Out of all the usual obstacles with how our cars fits around different kinds of headers, haveing a problem with the #7 tube on a set of regular headers seems like a new problem to me,could you please share a picture of where and how the car interferes with the headers on that particular tube?

As for the isue with swaping sparkplugs, well yes number #5 and #7 are usualy a slight pain but you will figure it out quite soon, its not that hard when you just figure out the right angle of attack and the correct tools for the jobb.

congrats you are one of the very few that still has the bellhousing to block braces, hang them on the wall as they seem to be quite rare these days, not even sure they where on all cars in the first place so i dont think you need to worry much about that.
