I want to replace my rear brakes and keep running across a confusion of the drums being 9 or 10 inch.
I'll pull one if needed, but does anyone know for sure if a 73 LH23 Dart Swinger 2 door hard top is 9 or 10?
It has the original 7.25 with 4.5 bolt pattern, and factory fron discs.

Thanks

I think you need to measure. What they should be and what someone may have put underneath could be two different things.

Ok, so two people who's oppinion I trust say they couldn't really be sure so I'll pull one and see for myself. :)
It's also what I would tell someone to do to be sure.

I actually thought about getting both so I would for sure have the right ones on hand, but it's not a big deal to pull one.

Thanks for confirming guys.

all you have to do is measure the outside drum-- just remove a tire--- the 7.25 I had like that was 10" brakes--

since you had disc brakes-- that is what my $$ is on.Lawrence

Cut it in half and count the rings....

Oh, wait, that only works with trees.....

I could be wrong, but I thought 9" was only on 4 wheel drums, and 4" bolt pattern, and that disc/drum 4-1/2" bolt pattern was was 10" drum.

When I saw 9 or 10, I knew what your question was about. When I was getting parts for my brake mechanic for my 67 Barracuda, I looked up info in the parts stores. All listings were for only 9" rear brakes. It actually had 10" brakes.

So I agree, pull the back tire and drum (if possible) and measure the inner diameter. While you're there, measure the width of the brake shoe pad.

Ha ha, see what I mean?
Ill be pulling one in the next day or so and let Y'all know what it is, just for curiosity sake.

"Count the rings" There ya go. :)

I said nine just to make you check lmao

You're like that sometimes. :) (but I appreciate it) because we all know it's always best to look for sure anyway.
I was glad to see the drums were in nice condition with lots of meat on them.
A light crosshatch sanding and we're in business.

They are 10" x 2.5" and Napa has them in stock so I'll pick them up tomorrow and swap em out.

Thanks guys? :)

Thanks guys? :)

You're questioning the actual gender of the above posters? :sign12:

My '73 318 A/C Dart, when I bought it, had front discs w/4.5" boltcircle and a 7-1/4" axle with 4" boltcircle and unmanly 9" drums.
Not sure why but someone probably swapped some parts in the past.

I would bet that your car's rear diff was replaced at some time with an earlier sbp one.
All a-bodies from '73 to '76 that had bbp front disc brakes from the factory had bbp rear ends in them. Some were 7 1/4'' and some were 8 1/4''
Then you automatically got the good 10'' rear brakes.
