Turbos it is! Here for all to see!

Notice, the spool of solder? This is the Turbo Turbine, and Blower parts, there are 4 of them. 2 per turbo (remember this is a TWIN-Turbo set-up). The brass "turbo center", VERY important for a set up like this keeps EVERYTHING on the same horizon to the engine as long as your exhaust headers are horizontally even. Side to side mounting is VERY important too, it must be long enough, cut it a bit "long" trim when all together.....

Notice the solder is bent tightly around that brass pipe? This is how ALL of this will be made! The brass is left "long" and will be trimmed a bit and then trimmed again, later as you'll see! NOT glued at this point. A bit more has to be done first!

Notice the '57 300's engine setting here, the brass has been trimmed BUT not "short" it will need trimmed to length one more time! ALWAY allow for mistake!

You see 4 of the solder made parts, 2 Exhaust turbines, 2 turbo blowers.....

Now for some details. Turbo "flange" ring material.....THIN solder!

This shows HOW I made those really little Turbo "flange" rings to fill the void on the set-up.

So, now to continue.....I got one side "started" BUT be careful, you must leave some on one end or the other specially when doing twins side-by-side...

Notice where the Turbo "Flange" ring is in the picture, its labeled, but, it also hides where the solder exhaust turbine meets the turbo center.....These rings? need to have 2 PER turbine intake or power, so in the center, it will have 2 side-by-side.

Seen here is the 2 rings BETWEEN or pinched in from the 2 turbine parts, this completes ONLY ONE SIDE!

For posing sake, here is the left-hand side done, awaiting the right hand side....

1957_Chrysler_300C_056_detail.jpg

Notice, the WHOLE right-hand side set-up is LOOSE! You HAVE TO, get the distance just right on the outer most Exhaust Turbine.....Once that much is set and glued in place, you can go on to assemble it with super glue (CA)....

THEN for those people, who are learning......The air intake is in the middle! CENTER of BOTH turbo's! See:

Now this center air intake? It can have a short pipe topped with a K&N air filter, OR can go to something that comes in from the hood, the grill, you name it, FRESH AIR IS BEST! NOT "heated" air from inside the engine compartment!

A few has asked me for something like this.....Hope it helps!

looks great (I never did get that far into scratchbuilding)

but could I make a small suggestion ?

ad a belt driven blower to combat turbo lag at low RPM ;)

Sure? I know there is a lot of details YET to be added, whats seen here is simply how I did the "body" of the turbo.....

LMAO @ Belt driven blower to aid in turbo lag,.....

thanks guys!

Sadly diymirage,
My issue with this set up? I wanted to keep the car its going into to look like a "Sleeper", the whole engine remains UNDER the hood! NO holes in the hood at all for it to fit, its going into a '57 Chrysler 300.....I MAY yet add a "shaker" hood scoop but, I'm not 100% certain I'm wanting that, just a thought. this car is being entered into a model contest (yet again) so......"50's" so...... yeah.....Built any way you like.....l.Well this is thee only "50's" car model I got one, and 2, gives me a reason to build that insane 392 Hemi as seen here......

To the rest,
Guys I've been an avid scratchbuilder MOST of my life, if you can't buy something you need to model, or build, even on REAL cars, you make it yourself!!!!!

Sadly on models its a lot easier, sure but can be just as intense due its smaller size...Which, I been thinking I ought to make and sell these turbo kits. be easy to do and give me a little more spending cash.....

But anyway, ENJOY guys!

none of my models ever come out stock
here is the car that DOHC hemi went into

as long as them duke boys keep don't make any sharp turns they will never get away now ;)

Nice work once again!

THANKS this is the kinda crap that keeps me sane at times.. and as you can see, I think I'm pretty good at it....BUT this contest crap, has me, its damn fun, BUT it does take from my other builds (I am DYING to get back to workin on my Doomz Day Monster A100!!!)

BUT I'm also a "stock" model builder, they were only "stock" once and ole Ma Mopar knew what she was doin with the looks they had, which is a by-gone time......I miss working/restoring on the real ones so.....It reflects in my models!

BUT even tho a "stocker" once in awhile that animal comes out and shines through, like seen in this build.....It was a live an well when I was a kid building these things, but I've seen the finer things in cars specially Mopars, and well.. they had taste, style and power back then like nothing else.....AND, its what I grew up knowing and seeing.....

I can't reveal anything to anywhere else till the contest is over... Once thats over I will be posting pictures of the build as it is.....BUT the parts, I can post without being disqualified! SO......

I took a little liberty and basically cut the K member down to a C member to clear both the turbos and the oilpan

(one of my lesser realistic build for sure, but then again, I still love the old MPC kits that had the axles come right through the oilpan)

DAMN......... and I thought the exhaust going in the '57 300 I'm building was a crazy one.... The pipes you used, is that Solder too? It looks to be!

NICE job!

the pipes on there is styrene, the resonators are aluminum tube and all of it was then painted with alclad chrome paint
it is a pain to use but boy does it look good once properly applied

Nice work! Alclad paint, is the bomb man! It is different to use specially the chrome but worth the effort in the end....

I'm working on a '57 300 that has a twin turbo'd 392 in it, as this is what this tutorial was from, BUT I wanted to keep the engine UNDER the hood, so, no blowers for this one, maybe the next time around.....

This was the prize for the Christmas Sleigh I did and won with so.....

I'm working on getting this all together now as this 300 I'm doing is a bit of a different approach for me! I've never lowered any cars till this one, and the first time, that the engine in some way hasn't come through the hood......Altho, I'm think of something a bit different with that too! When able, I'll post pics of this build as it too is for a "50's" contest so.....I am not permitted to post ANYWHERE till the 5 needed pictures are posted for the contest to begin, and thats not until March. (I think the 31st) so....

I'm going a bit different on the exhaust on mine, out through the inner fender well, up over the upper A-frame, and back over the frame rails to go into place as the "stock" exhaust would have been just before the mufflers.

NOW however, I'm getting a TON of details in order, and following pictures of a REAL '57 300.....
