I know the NV4500 isn't a four speed, but this is the closest place I figured this could go. Maybe it should be renamed MANUAL Transmissions.

Anyway, does anyone know a bit about the NV4500 2WD transmission? I may want one behind a small block. Is there a way to get it done? Thank you drive through.

So then, essentially, it is a bolt on to the engine with the correct bellhousing. Is that correct?

Yep. Any 1994-2001 2500 or 3500 Ram with NV4500 and gas power would have the right bellhousing. Not sure, but a V10 might use the same bell.

Sure is, and apparently the bell is comon and easy to get also.

Sorry Rob, didn't see the question till now. :)

Is that a truck transmission with granny low?

Not necessarily, it came in a bunch of vehicles from Chrysler, Chev as well as a few others and is a tall overdrive.
That's what I got out of the article.

From what I am finding the bellhousing is "rare and hard to find". At least that's what all of them say that I have found. You know how that is. lol

Might be better off with the NV3500 with it's more desireable spread; plenty folks beat on em' hard.

The NV4500 is a truck trans it is essentially an Np435 granny truck trans with an OD 5th gear. They used them from around 91 up in dodges i had one in a 92 W150 then got a 2 WD version from a 91 d250. I had the bell from that set up and couldn't give it away.
Hope your not thinking of putting this in a car?? But makes a great swap for an old truck
Almost bulletproof except behind a healthy cummins. Then u need better shafts.

It would be goin in a truck.

Excellent choice! You won't be dissapointed! To help with a bell housing you can also use one from a gen3 hemi truck with the nv4500 in it. And I should correct myself the NV is more like the NP445 as it has a synchronized 1st unlike a 435

Well, this is a ways off from materializing yet. I wanted to make sure there was stuff to make it happen. Thanks yall.

Ive over hauled a lot of NV4500 gear box's (nice & easy tranny to work on!) that have all been ( & going back behind) healthy cummins engines for friends of mine. Ive honestly never seen one behind a smallblock yet. & the V-10 shares the same bell as the mighty cummins. Also don't expect to shift this tranny lightning fast eather! there brick s%$@ house when done rite though.

There were NV4500s behind 360s and v10 trucks. Only found in 1 Ton trucks and 3/4 tons with the heavy duty tow package AND the camper package (yes they were 2 different packages)

I have rebuilt hundreds and hundreds of those NP435s( assembly line rebuilder, army contract). They are compact, heavy, well engineered for their time,HD, Graintruck/tow-truck, last forever type, 4-speed trannies. And back in the late 70s/early 80s, they all had granny gears, and no O/Ds. Just saying. The synchronizer system in those years was not set up for fast shifting, but certainly did the job. I cant remember ever replacing a cluster or low gear in one. And M/Ds only because the clutch splines would wear out.Mostly it was the brass in the synchronizers would bottom in the pans, and the clutch teeth would be beat to nubs.I see the NV adds an O/D onto the back. Sweet.
