proform rockers ?

I wouldn't use them, I had a bad experience with cheap rocker arms and now that is something that I will never cheap out on again! I have also heard of those pro-form ones breaking pretty easily.

Sorry, are you asking if I used 273 rockers? As far as I know 273 rockers are pretty good actually.

I used some PRW aluminum rockers, and they didnt oil the valve properly, and they didnt sit flat on the valve stem, just put a set of comp ultra pro magnums on and they are 100 times better.
 
no I have to 273's on it now but I guess the machine shop said that they're not holding their adjustment good enough anymore so instead of spending $50 on new lockable adjusters and who knows how much the shop will charge plus time? To flatten the adjusters sit flat on the rockers. I just figured spend 250 and be done with it.
 
Go for it. stockish cam wont hurt those those rockers. Just dont put 700 lb rollers under them.

273's aint bad, Isky repopped them. You just need the adjuster locknuts.
 
No way in hell would I replace those good iron rockers with cheap *** Proforms. But if that's what you want, go for it.
 
I only have about a 540 lift and 350 pounds of spring pressure it's pretty far under their ratings. I don't see that stroker doing much more than six grand or so rpms.
 
PRW rockers are what I use and what Hughes racing sells. You can get them for a great price online.

so like my original question you have used these and broke them? I mean I was really just hoping to hear somebody who broke one or have a serious problem with one? I realize they're not too expensive and ninety nine times out of a hundred that means they're not the greatest but it also doesn't mean they're going to break easy either?

No. I haven't used them and I won't. I have however used the stock 273 rockers modified like I outlined with a .595 lift solid. They will take the abuse of a .600 plus lift roller modified like I talked about.

I don't understand why anybody would rather spend about the same amount to make a bullet proof rocker on some total chinkesium. I just makes no sense to me. One way you will have a foolproof set of rockers that will last a lifetime through as many upgrades as you want. The other way, you have some overseas rockers that may work out and may not.

I know which way I would go and it's not the ProForms. But hay, it's your project and your money, not mine. I hope they work out for you.

Lol , the things you can get away with by living down south like chinkesium ! I appreciate you offering a less expensive way to settle things and not cyber spending my money like some will offer to do. my thinking was a lighter valve train with less resistance. I understand there are the cheaper ones to buy. And that's why I'm really hoping someone who's actually use them will chime in and show me a picture of a broken one with only at 540 lift and only 350 pounds of spring pressure.I do plan to take another stab at the top end. when I can afford it next year and I know that I'll need new rockers with new aluminum heads and roller lifters and all that great top and stuff. But for now this is what I could afford. If I didn't know any better I would almost seem like you're knocking it before you've tried it? But again I know you're looking out for my better and intrest.
 
I personally haven't ran any but I've installed them on some buddies cars fords and Chevy small blocks with mildish cams they haven't had any trouble out of them yet and the ford sees regular abuse just inspect them any that may be subject just send them back I've heard proform/ speedmaster have pretty decent customer service
 
There have been plenty of threads about failed overseas rockers. They all come from the same place, whether ProForm, PRW, whatever. It's simply personal preference is all. IMO, you already have a superior product right off the bat, even with the factory adjusters. But as said that's my opinion. If you get them, post some good pictures. I hope they are quality pieces and they work for you. I still won't use them. LOL

this is why I really like using summit their customer service is so good even if I have to have them price match it's worth it.
 
My proforms cracked one after about 1 year of use, 500lift, 350spring pressure, my buddy broke one too, and in the process one of the adjusting screws snapped and fell down on the camshaft, cracked a lifter, destroyed the lifterbore in his 340. He was running a performer rpm camshaft. I dont thrust them any more.
Look for used good ones or step up to 450 dollar and buy the ones from mancini.
 
T&D. I know they are expensive but listen to this. Cheap rockers WILL break and when they do, they will take out more than what T&D's cost.
 
hi, you can modify the 273 rockers your self!!!! run a tap through it. then grind a flat spot on rocker arm. I did mine years ago, being careful you can do a good job on them, its not rocket science!!! I run 345 # pressure, 7400 rpm in traps. those rockers have been in use about 20 years now.. you do need to have grooved shafts like 273 came with.
 
well the 273 rockers are on and supposedly adjusted and quality controlled along with the whole motor. I just don't want to leave that motor at the shop another minute its been over three and a half months and I'm going nuts! I got patience for some time now but there done!
 
I have not owned any preform junk nor will I ever own them. Read to many horror stories about them like Norway-dart described. I would take 273 adjustable rockers any day over cheap Chinese junk. As Perfacar said replacing the stock adjusters with aftermarket adjusters is really simple. As for what little weight savings and the very minimal friction reduction the preform rockers claim I highly doubt it'd be power you would actually feel.

He (the OP) asked for someone that has actually used them, and you have and it broke. So did your buddy. The OP did NOT want to hear this!!! He has his mind set on using them and wants somebody to say "that was a good choice, Johnny" ... LOL.
 
Used them. 2 months later, 3 stems snapped off. total rebuild with crane after that.
