Hi, I have an edelbrock performer intake that was painted blue and black over the blue, I tried paint stripper and it took off the black but wouldn't do anything to the blue, someone said not to sandblast it,anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Yes and it didn't work
Thanks

Then it may be e-coat or powder coat and may be a ***** to get off....

oh ok, is sandblasting to harsh even with fine sand?
Thanks

Do a test spot and see how it works out. Just be sure to get ALL the sand out when you're done. The main argument I've heard against blasting an intake is that you get sand lodged in places where you can't get all of it out. I think it'll be fine if you use glass beads. My performer intake was bead blasted and clear coated.

Thanks everyone for your advice

Sand works fine I've been blasting intakes for years just make sure its good and clean before you bolt it on just blow all the sand out of it

See if there is a powder coater in your area. They have a liquid stripper for when they make mistakes. My powder coater uses a chemical called B 17. It is extremely aggressive on powder, paint, or whatever it touches including human skin but doesn't hurt the piece being stripped.

Or cover the holes/ports to help keep the media/sand out...

It's also expensive, and you'd need a lot to soak an intake manifold. :-D I went through a whole gallon trying to take off the factory's 18,000 layers of powder on a brand new Jeep dash last November. What a mess!

If you decide to blast it, just keep your air pressure at 90 psi and you should be all right. Wear goggles when you blow it off afterwards too -- the media gets inside the threaded tower bracket mounting and carb flanges and comes straight at your face (ask me how I know this).

Why do you want to strip it? Are you wanting to go back to "raw" aluminum? I suggest paint or powder coat that takes on the appearance of raw cast. The coating will help keep it clean looking

It'll still have to be stripped first.

So when does the show start??? :D :blob:

I use glass bead then wash it with hot soap and water. If you have someone with an aluminum tank, even better.

As mentioned, tape up the ports and put bolts/studs in all the holes.

(You said to ask...) :poke:

Pictures with reply.... :tongue9:

There's a place in town here that will strip stuff pretty cheap - they've got a hot tank or some such and you can take painted metal whatevers and they come back clean as a whistle the next day. Probably a place close to you that does the same - call a body shop and ask - that's how we found the one here.

Dang it Karl, the only manifold in line now is a brand new one, and the media was just changed so I can't get the full Dirty Chick Effect but I'll see what I can do since ya asked. :toothy1:
