Restoration of Tom Myl's 1968 Super Stock BO29 Hemi Barracuda

-
I know the temptation is to make it look as good as possible but they weren't perfect to begin with...

Totally agree, but we all over restore these days. We are just trying to make look the best we can with the original parts.

X2 on that the originals were pretty ruff in a lot of areas and panel fitment was one of them.

What motor are you using?

Yes, they were rough thrown together. The day Tom picked up BO Barracuda there was no hood on the car. Chrysler had to ship the hood to Tom later. First thing Tom did when the got the car to the shop (from talking to him), they pulled the Hemi out and rebuilt it.

Not really saying much on the motor yet, things are in the works If you know what I mean.
But we do have 2 Hemi's to choose from at this time (possible a third)
first is a build date of January 1968 550 hp pump gas
2nd is all new stroker, block, heads and internals 750 pump gas
3rd See what happens.

We are looking for an original trans if anybody can help us.

Nice to see this one going back to as original as possible. My Dad, Greg Fernald at SSandAFX might know where to procure some of the parts you are looking for. No guarantees but he knows a lot of people in the Mopar community. I'll shoot you a PM with his information if you like.

The trunk lid with previous owners signatures, what do you guys think Tony should do with it. Should he just leave the underside alone?

Tony and I have talked about the names on the trunk lid and both thought there was no way to keep them and make them look good. Talked to Tom Myl and he is going to come and sign the car again and other driver had said the same thing. So that made the decision a lot easier. But just in case we are going to use transparent paper and copy the names

More progress on the Barracuda painted the inside red primer and the black inside trunk area. I think the red should have went farther back under the rear sear area. But It looks good

Thanks

I would like to see some pictures of your cousin car

I just came across these photos in one of my sister's old albums and scanned them. They were taken in 1982.

In the last photo, I am the scrawny one hanging over the windshield. That was the year I graduated. I will see if I can get some more photos!

Dave, why the red and change to black??

Didn't the factory paint the trunk and engine compartments black?

But I thought the interior compartment was left grey primer like the outside of the car?

I don't know if you have already gotten rid of the names yet but another option I thought of would be to get some really straight-on photos of the names and then they could be reprinted in black onto clear vinyl and the clear vinyl could be trimmed to match the areas inside the truck lid reinforcements and reapplied after the new paint job... Just a thought

Very COOL shots of the HAIRBENDER!!!! That's crazy today, to see someone sitting on the fender!!!

I know, right??? That is my sister sitting on the fender...Just found these old photos in her old photo album last weekend. I wanted to yell at her for sitting on that fender! LOL

That car is still in pristine shape, by the way.
