Early A hood scoop?

I do agree, if you can stay clean, I would. But I had to cut mine for the radiator and cooling, and this is how it came out.

I read thru the post and its interesting that you request to see one painted car color, that has been something I've pondered myself. How would the scoop look car colored. When I paint it, I'm gonna paint it car color, if it looks stupid, I'll paint it back black.

Hello everybody. Been pondering a long time a nice-looking Mopar hood scoop for my 65 signet two-door hardtop....
Personally, I don't think six pack type hood scoops are really appropriate for the early A's, I think they end up looking "tacked on" - please no offense to anyone, not looking to start a fight. I just don't think that they flow very well with the lines of these cars.
Would it be possible for anyone to please post a picture of their early A and their hood scoops so that I might be able to judge a little better what might work for me?. Any ideas would be appreciated.

there is no way i would be putting a hood scoop on that car. just looks too nice without one..


if you are hell bent on a scoop then the 64ish hemi scoop look at home on an early valiant.

1st pic These are the Aussie version Valiant AP6 4 door regal Which had the nice stainless trimmings and bucket seats with centre console shift check the stainless trim on the bonnet.2nd pic ap5 valiant better pic to show you the stainless bonnet trim.

Here is my Custom hood scoop on my '65 HEMI Valiant...I'm kinda partial to it since my Dad and I designed and fabricated it.

I think the car looks great without it. I really would suggest finding another hood to cut up. That is one thing I did do before cutting up my hood. I worried that the engine bay would would get super heated over long distance driving with the engine being so cramped. I'll be painting this car in the next few months, got some more body work and finessing I need to do. I do plan on painting the scoop and post pics to get opinions on the match body color. Never thought about a chrome center support or possible trimming the opening with chrome strips, maybe to much chrome for me. Aside from the window and door trim being chrome, and the aluminum V200 trim, the bumpers, tail lights, door handles and other accent have been painted silver, only due to the price to ship and have chromed.

I don't think any scoops look "proper" on an early A, some race cars need to have them for clearance or more air but I think Your stroker stick car will be meaner looking as stock as it can be! Ultimately it is your car, but you asked for our comments, and I say "DON'T DO IT" If you must get another hood and swap it up once in awhile and take a poll that way, but I almost guarantee most of the gen pop~ will say they like it better with the scoop, in saying that "most" of the people out there are clowns! The general population would probably like it with hood pins too, maybe even a spoiler!!!

Just remember "its smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon"!!! That thing is going to be thirsty

Here is a different twist for ya !! A young man I know and his father grafted these scoops from a 70-74 Cuda onto this 65 Barracuda. I personally think it's pretty slick.

So coool!!!!

Thank you for your input and I have to say -This scoop looks pretty darn seamless in its integration into the existing lines of the early A body and actually looks like it belongs... Unfortunately, I've never been a big E body fan...

To me it all depends on what else you are going to do to the car.If you are going to leave it as is then I would not put a scoop on it.If you are going to go with a drag car look then post #35 looks pretty cool in my book.Of course I'm in the minority here as I find stock pretty boring.

Here is my 64. It has the 6 pack style hood. I actually have two hoods. My original stock hood painted in same colour and this one. Right now the engine layout is too tall so the scoop is required. If I ever tone it down I can go back to original.

IMHO most scoops will look out of place, too big or just not right somehow on this body style. The exception is the one posted by MOPARMITCH.
