Hello,

I lost the title to my current cuda project. I going with plan B and Thinking about putting a 6-71 Dpolished Dyers Blower on a mildly built blower motor in my 69 Dart. To have fun withand drive around on backroads, highway, events,
Question:
> whats driving an old school blower like?
> how will my gas mileage cruising on the highway
> can I run pump gas at 93 octane
> The 440 is a tight fit and what about hot headers

Roots style blowers are instant throttle response, you will not regret it.

A 440 in a Dart should be a handfull regardless of how it's built. A blown wedge will be even more excitement. Don't overdrive it too much. We want you around to tell the stories. LOL

Hello,

I Thinking about putting a 6-71 Dpolished Dyers Blower on a mildly built blower motor in my 69 Dart.
Question:
(1) whats driving an old school blower like?

(2) The 440 is a tight fit and what about hot headers

(1) For me, a blower cuts vision too much for safety, on the highway. - Just my 2 cents, on this. ----(2) I had a 440 in a 68 Dart, (Stock Heads) and I used TTI Headers. They fit pretty good, but did hit the torsion bar on one side - can't remember which side. I dinged them to avoid hitting. That was several years ago, and possibly by now they have engineered around that problem.

I completely agree with #1 you cannot see anything to the right.
There is a member here that has a big block duster with a blower.
The throttle response is worth all the trade offs.

> whats driving an old school blower like?

A lot of fun - as in perma-grin fun. Oh, and tuner drivers will not make eye contact.

> how will my gas mileage cruising on the highway

I don't have highway stats but around town I'd say I get as good or better mileage as I did with a single carb (850DP), normally aspirated BB. Crack the throttle and you're moving. Really depends on how heavy your right foot is.

> can I run pump gas at 93 octane

Yes, no problem, if you keep boost levels reasonable.

> The 440 is a tight fit and what about hot headers

Run the headers you want that will fit. The blower will definitely generate more under hood heat. I run a heat shield under my master cylinder. My floor boards get pretty warm. No problems though.

Superchargers increase part throttle and light cruise mileage sometimes as much as 5 or more MPG. And yes, as mentioned, the added power is instantaneous, no wait for spool up from a stupid turbo. Plus they look badass. Who needs to see? They look badass.

Build the motor with low compression, way more forgiving on parts.
A blower is very timing sensitive, detonate, it comes apart fast.
They are fun, but take baby steps until you understand them.
Easy on the timing curve, run it rich and then ween it down.

Boost is addictive and right now when you tap the gas.

You will have stupid power if you put the right cam in it . 110-114 c/l .
I have a 493 stroker with a Hampton 14-71. My cam is ground on a 114 c/l.

Check Don Hampton . He's a great guy & wicked smart. he will even tell you how to set up your carbs .
Have fun with it & you will love the wicked response & acceleration .

Run good gas, or you will pound number four main out and spin a rod brg, dont ask how I know.

Are you running a stock style low in the hole piston? if so they like to detonate, keep the boost down unless you can get some high octane, can you get e85? it likes boost.

"A lot of fun - as in perma-grin fun. Oh, and tuner drivers will not make eye contact." LOL x2... Drove a friends small block 68 cuda , 340 with a blower. Great fun making 1/4 mile passes in it too at E-town many years ago.

I have a 383 and want to cruise around on the highway, drive to nationals 300 miles away. Thinking forged pistons but would like to keep the cost down and keep it streatable. I like the Dyers set up including manifold $3600 polished

I wouldn't even consider building a blower engine using anything less than forged pistons .
I think you should read up on the subject more . your building a blower engine there is no such thing as cheap if you want it to last more than a day .

I don't mean cheap I meant solid , nothing fancy, AND STREATABLE. I have a 500 BB Challenger I LOVE but its fancy with all the fancy high HP stuff. Hard to get in and just cruise to a car show, special gas, lookin at gauges , trans gets hot , high stall KEEPS DOING RANDOM BURNOUTS. :)
6-71 383 cruiser 5-6 psi boost??

nothing fancy!?! did you say - nothing fancy?!? Hey - nice car (shameless plug here)

Put forged blower pistons in it, they have a lower top ring on the piston, or you will spend more money rebuilding it later.
Pistons are not expensive on the grand scheme of the build.
