I'm only guessing here, but I imagine they don't allow subframe connectors? I am not building to compete in that class, I do have subframe connectors, but as usual I got to thinking. I'm still doing sheet-metal work, and am replacing my rockers. I know it's a box section, but I didn't like how flimsy the inner rocker felt once I took the outer shell off. It's a 68, and there is no bracing in the door panels and I was thinking if anybody ever drilled me from the side, I don't have much protection. I am welding some one and three-quarter inch square unit strut to the inside of the rocker. I might even run a second piece. After I welded it on, I closed the open side with a piece of three-quarter inch EMT. Then as I was working I was thinking that if somebody wanted some chassis stiffening without subframe connectors this may be a way to go, of course it involves a big job, but what the heck. Yeah it's ugly, I don't need comments about that.

I think they do allow. Check the rules on their website.

Easy peasy with weld in's I can tell you for fact.
Mine are only about 1/4 below the subframes, and above the side of the body.
No way in hell are going to see them from 3 feet at ground level.
 
Most guys run subframe connectors, just tuck them up alittle more. I have the butterscotch duster in f.a.s.t.
 
I wonder how well that would work, heck of alot lighter than the normal 2x3 tubing..
 
Something is better than nothing. I already have subframe connectors but I figured I would add something more solid than sheet-metal to tie the front and rear torque boxes together, since I had the rockers opened up anyway. I was just offering a suggestion in case you weren't allowed to have external subframe connectors, & I think you would have a tough time getting 2X3 inside the Rockers.
 
The A-body convertibles had an odd shaped piece of about .25 thick steel inside the rockers to add stiffness. It has kind of the same profile as the rocker does.

I have seen pics of your Duster. You guys sure do a lot of "trick" stuff.......outstanding job!
