TNT'ers think they are racers

-
I wonder how (or if it's been done) a restrictor plate (like Nascar) carb only- no power adders heads up drag would work ?
Spit balling

It wouldn't, to many variables.

I like TNT. But I do sometimes bracket my wife's car just to piss off the real racers, it must suck getting owned by a Taurus that goes 12.70 @108 every pass no matter who is driving.

Looks like the OP stirred up a wasp nest.
I go to TNT and bracket race for fun. Everyone pays the $s to run their car and have the same right to run what you have. I support the track and hope it stays open for a long time to come. Progress is encroaching closer and closer to the track every year and I fear the increased noise bitching from future homeowners is eventually going to doom the track.

Maybe at tnt i,m not showing you what lights i can pull so I can sucker your *** in later!

X2, I don't see the issue! I always enter the racing class when I'm at the Nats, and like to run just for fun! I changed the converter this year and wanted to see if it made a difference, am I not supposed to run because it might offend the "real racers"??? Heck no, everybody I meet in the staging lanes is also there to have fun with their cars! Plus, being street driven, I can take my car out after the track closes and beat the crap out of it!! I just love it when the racers bring out there's cars, and the parking lots are full of trailers!! What fun!!!!! ;-)

Kind of hard to understand the point of this post. Not all of us have the time to be regular racers chasing points. I have two little kids, not in the realm of possibilities for me to spend every weekend at the track. Guess I shouldn't show up until I am knocking down perfect packages on every pass.

But like said already, what's the problem with running your car at the track however you decide to do so? Is there a rule that to race you have to be an experienced bracket racer?

What do you say to the No Time guys who are making test hits?

Well i for one trailer my car to the track cause' you never know anything can happen, put it back on the trailer and home i go..you break your waiting for a tow..what fun:D:D

I also trailer my car to the track, mostly because I also sell parts at the big shows and need my truck and trailer to haul parts!! I was speaking to the guys who trailer their cars to the cruise ins, unload them in the parking lots, cruise them for a mile or so, then load them back up! And, at the Nats, the Heath cruise scene is a whopping 3 miles from the track!!! Down through Heath and Hebron, the big mall parking lots are filled with trucks and trailers!!!! Not much point in having a car if you can't drive it 3 miles, unless it's a race only car, then it shouldn't be on the street anyway!!

Yes, i agree with that or the guys who trailer to about a mile from the track unload it,drive to the track and claim its a street car..

I trailer mine to the drag strip also, if it breaks (it has) it would be a pain. It's funny to see the looks on the some of the "race" car guys faces when it ran 6.70 in street trim on pump 93 and is a small block. It ran 6.57 @ 108 mph, 1.37 60' with no exhaust or air cleaner on pump 93 at 3260 pounds.

I hear ya.............I too love it when I click of 6.20`s or 9`s w/only a bar in my pump gas n/a 470 stroker w/MUCH more in it.................:burnout:

I don't think I've seen this here, but several other Mopar sites I read have the following which always make me chuckle:
It's kinda cute to watch the test and tune guys post pictures of their low E.T.time slips with reaction times of .400 and slower in a racers forum. Please know that bracket racers are not the least bit impressed with how fast your car gets down the track during test n tune.
Only way you're going to win a round in real racing is if the other guy red lights.
Grinch mode off, now have a Merry Christmas!

That's cool. Most of the TNT and occasional racers are not impressed with bracket racers either. Many of the ones I've seen and talked to had hit their performance "glass ceiling" years prior and were just going through the motions to get some seat time and a burnout done legally. Merry Christmas to you too!

R&R, nice move! You open up a can of worms and let it grow on it's own. LOL I think most T&Ter's here are just seein what there car/ mc/ atv/ ect. Can do in the 1/4 mile . Maybe your talking about the kid who puts a k&n air filter and a coffee can muffler tip on his Honda Accord with the massive wing on the trunk lid and thinks he's got a ten second car only to find out it's a 17 second car? I'm sure he still had fun regardless of the disappointing time slip. Two years ago when I started going to the local T&T I was doing a 16.4 the first night (reaction time? Who cares!) And by the end of the summer 13.7. I can't say I was having any more fun. Raced a small bracket series this last year and lost in the first round every time except the last race, then blew up the rearend at the start line. All was fun, that's what the car/money pit is for? My reaction times ? Inconsistent at the very least !! My wife got me a two step MSD for x-mas to help work on that.
So in conclusion, T&T is almost always the starting point for your future bracket competition. Maybe that kid with the funny little Honda Accord got a little bug that night at T&T and someone encouraged him and ????

If it was not for bracket racers and tnters probably most of the tracks in the country would have closed up by now. If you take 2 deep pocket heads up cars that run (say) 7.70 times and run heads up who wins, BIG SECURIT here, the one with the best reaction time. So if the 7.70 car goes against a 12.70 car and both cars are real consistent in a bracket race guess who wins, the best reaction time. But if the deep pocket guy loses to the shallow pocket guy the shallow pocket guy shouldn't be aloud to race. If the shallow pocket guy loses, that's racing. Go figure JUST SAYING!
I bracket race and tnt when I can(very few times a year) because my middle class status and pay have diminished over the years.

I like TNT... 1st - Nothing like the truth of an E.T. slip. 2nd - nice not looking for cops 3rd - I like it when both cars go at once..... isn't this how it all started? Ready, set, go! 4th - I don't gamble. period.

Also, as already been mentioned, you have to have the time to be there every weekend to be a points chaser.

To each his own.........to the OP the TNT'ers might just be helping keep that track open you like to go to. Lot's of tracks have gone 'down' in my lifetime

In Spokane, the track was on it's death bed during and after Oriville Moe's downfall. Spokane COUNTY decided to take over and run the track.......and it's still 'alive' today.

And the Op is no where to be found.....
I guess I need to clarify. I think people who bring their fast street car out to the track to run for time only AND then call themselves racers give me a chuckle. No problem with you TNTing, just don't present yourself as a racer if you're not ever going to race it. I agree that these guys are keeping the local tracks open by spending the money to come out, and especially by having a bunch of friends come out to see their car run. I've had some of them trash talk me in the pits about how their street car could take my bracket car. For some reason they think that trash talking is a part of amateur drag racing, maybe they see people do it on a TV show. They don't seem to like it when I come up in the other lane beside them during TNT, though. "Boy, that was close, you only beat me by 2 or 3 car lengths", they have no idea in an 8th mile just how bad they got owned. They are actually good for concentration because you never know what they are going to do at the tree or if they will stay in their lane and it keeps you on your toes. Try cutting a good light when some guy in the next lane launches on the 1st yellow or the 2nd staging bulb and you're making sure he's not in your lane when you take off! What Doesn't give me a chuckle is when these guys are dripping A/C condensation or other fluids all over the track and they don't get waved off, (the tracks fault) or when the trucks scatter trash from the bed all over the track or when they pop a radiator hose at the start line and run the car all the way down the track causing a long shutdown for cleanup.

Got no problem with guys who just want to know how fast their car is, as long as they know the safety rules. It's the ones that talk about how fast the car they will never race is. And I'm not talking about the kid in the Honda Accord, because as you describe him he RACED against a little bug, he wasn't there only for TNT. Unless it's index, heads up amateur racing is whoever has the most money wins. Not really interested in what the rich do for fun. I agree, TNT is the starting point, but when I was doing that I kept my mouth shut.

Wow, I don't know if you helped yourself at all with those statements. The street guys I hang with ain't rich, run heads up classes in NMCA and other series street classes. If your bracket car won't run 4.90 to 5.30 while weighing 3600 pounds, they can spot you plenty of reaction time and still run over you on the big end. I'm not sure anyone spent a night drinking a beer in the garage with with friends, and going gaga over the cool reaction times they all cut.

Do what you like to do,and do it. Don't worry about what other people are doing. People do what they like, and afford.

Sounds like you invite trash talking because you did it with a provocative thread. Just sayin'.

Again, I am not a regular racer but I have not trash talked anyone at the track ever. Why would I do that? I'm there to learn.

Sounds there is a specific type of person you are referring to - we all know the type - the loud mouth dude who writes a check to have someone else build him a ridiculous, overbuilt car to putt around on the fairgrounds or cruise night. If that is the type you are referring to, then yeah, that can be annoying. Not sure why you would even engage someone like that in legitimate conversation though, not worth the time.

Not all guys who show up on test days are like that but you knew that right?

Boy, RockinRobin. LOL !
- TNT is racing, just ask a cop if you do it on the street if you line up two cars....
- And, did I understand you right? 1/8 mile is what u race? If so, a lot of folks here say "that isn't racing".
- Ummm... as far as safety goes, that's what tech is for ... sigh..
- And, I see way more bracket cars putting up the "down time" on the track than TNT
- Nobody has to keep their mouth shut, and if so, you can shut your arrogant "if you don't see it my way, your wrong" mouth. LOL.....
- Some folks don't believe in gambling, so they don't enter your "pay to enter, hoping for a purse" classes.
- Fans like watch TNT (two cars leaving at the same time) than your handicap classes.
- Nothing worse than watch'n the handicap round of a 12.90 car vs. a 12.50 bracket cars. Loud open headers, slicks, and the speed don't match the noise. Anyone can dump 4.56 gears, high stall in a gutted car and run 12's. But a lot of bracket cars, this is right where they are... boring, boring, boring.
- :D
