i'm not making any "political" noise here, just thought this is worth mentioning.

to take effect in 3 months, those able bodied people on state food stamps here in Missouri is between the ages of , I believe it was, 18 and 49, will be required to work a minimum of 80 hors per month to keep receiving their food assistance. . public service and other charity type work is also approved.

again, i'm not talking politics here. Missouri simply wants to help these people that are FULLY abled to work to get off their lifestyle of dependency on the govn't when NOT necessary for those......

Good for them. Maybe our road sides will actually stay clean now

it's a GREAT idea - hopefully it works and the rest of the country follows suit! when you've got people on vacation in the Bahamas who are receiving assistance - brother there is something wrong!

if they are '' able bodied" then they should be off assistance. if they can work 80 hrs a month then they should be able to fend for themselves. i personally am tired of hearing about all the fraud that goes on with these programs, i applaud your state for at least trying to get these people off assistance and make them do something.....BTW i bet most of them have the latest greatest new cell phone and have no problem paying the cellular bill each month

Yeah, they got their Obama phones! Now the fed is working out a way to give them free internet too.

first I have heard of the Chief!!!! LOL Salem, Mo is almost between t v stations ! maybe the news neither springfield nor st loius has gotten wind of him yet!!?????LOL

Missouri tends to be pretty conservative, except the big cities. ya know.

Springfield is the heart of the Bible belt, sometimes that's good sometimes maybe not so. the local charites are not directly related to any church I am aware off. but.. these charities do a lot to help people in need, but unfortunately too many people show up at the "free grocery" place drivng their pretty darn new and expensive SUV.... I have seen that on the local news!!!!!!

oh well, my piddly part time seasonal job starts Mon. I drive my 21 years old truck there, and go to the grocery store like most people AND PAY CASH FOR MINE!! lol

I have worked all my life. I do not work for $$, I simply trade days of my life to the company ,......for existence.......running out of days..............

Back in the 30's they created the WPA. Unemployed people got assistance in exchange for working on government projects. That's how a lot of our roads, bridges, and public buildings got built.

Today you get assistance for doing nothing, and our bridges and roads are deteorating because there is so much waste, fraud, and theft in government agencies like the Dept. of Transportation.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine is a disabled Vietnam veteran who has to live on a $1000 a month disability check and food stamps. Last year they cut his food stamps from $200 a month to $25.

this country drafted/sent young men off the the Viet Nam war, spit on them when they returned, so sad!!!

what kind of a country/politican machine do we have where our vets are treated like c***! sorry but that is how I f eel. we should take care of those that deserve our help/support, and the rest well, put them to work doing something constructive.. it would eventually dawn on them, might as well get out and get a real job and join the human race!?

decades ago back in Ga, young man I was... I bought a 60 ac, it had a wet weather flat on one end and a creek on the other... the CPA back in that great depression time, guys dug by HAND a drain ditch that would have been I would guess 1/4 mi long. that is a ditch! it had filed in one one end whne I had bought over those 30-40 years....., I drug it out there and a 5-6 pond drained for 2-3 weeks. I bush hogged it, and ya never heard so many snakes hitting those blades!!!!! but those guys worked for their govn't help. no shame there at all/

what gets me is all the so called disabled that hire a lawyer, and get on SS diasability....... I worked with a woman, she was in her early 50's, dying of cancer, they turned her down!!!!!! make me want to poopin my drawers!

and then you see tons of people on it that can easlly hold down a job..... HA!!!!!! bullc*** !!!! sorry.....

You want more benefits....Forget how to speak English or call yourself a Refugee....

we as a country need to stop being so politically correct and tell it like it is.....its sad how we treat our vetrans and our elderly. there are good people out there that truly need some assistance help and i have no problem seeing them get it but the fraud is so great it makes me sick, we need a leader who will put an end to the fraud and make these lazy free loaders get off their lazy butts and contribute to society. i agree with the post about the obama phones and refugees and speaking english.....bottom line is this great country is losing its way and its jobs to mexico and china !!!!!

People have been born into a system of getting something for nothing, they don't even understand another way. With food stamps you should not be able to buy luxury items and junk food. I stop at a fish market hoping maybe flounder is on sale and see people buying cases of king crab with food stamps! That's ridiculous.

Missouri is one of 22 states implementing new SNAP time limits in 2016, which means those who aren’t disabled or raising minor children will only get assistance with food for three months out of a three-year period.

Unfortunately you are probably right. Just like all these BS studies they claim they have done about people on assistance not failing drug test. Can't tell you the number I run in to with PCS charges and sure enough on assistance cards. They can afford their smokes and their tattoo's, and a nice *** cellphone and can be piece of $hit parents. But can't lower themselves to work towards employment. I get - some people need help and I'd be proud to help and never ask for nary even a thank you. But this liberal, tree hugging, no one's accountable for their actions BS eerrrrrrrrrr.

I saw a woman ahead of me in the Dollar store buy $40 worth of Easter candy (junk) with an EBT card the other day! Made me sick! Mean while I have two kids in college 100% funded by me! My kid couldn't even get a job at the college because I (supposbly) made too much money! Imagine that!

It is slam ridiculous. I cannot remember the last time I had me some crab legs. Kitty gets me that imitation crab meat and cooks it up with butter noodles. It's good, but it's not the same at all.

I love crab legs and lobster tails, and I also sell them. However, I very seldom eat them. (Maybe once a year) I work too hard for my money, to spend on such luxuries. I also see several of them bought with an ebt card. You can't hardly drive through Springfield, Mo. without seeing someone on a street corner begging. You also can't hardly turn around without seeing help wanted/now hiring signs.
