499 Demon

Nice work. I have the same rear and tire size under my dart. You'll be happy with that setup and have a little more clearance than I do.

I am curious, why run the battery ground all the way to the front of the car? Couldn't you ground the battery to the rear frame rail, then the engine to the front frame rail?

That's what I did. /\ /\

Much easier and lighter that way

Thanks guys I appreciate it.
I'm from the school of you can never have too many grounds. I also have one going from the battery to the roll bar. Its not in the picture. The one going forward will bolt directly to the engine.
I'm going to be using a Ron Francis harness and he also recommends a lot of grounds.
You are correct, it does add a few pounds but that's one that I'll live with.

roger that. I was just curious what your plans were. carry on with the good work.

While we're on the subject of battery cables these arrived today. I was unaware that these even existed. They're called military terminals. I like the way the cable will bolt onto the terminal.
I test fit them on one of my batteries and they fit really well. If you look close you'll see they're marked P & N, they're not universally sized like most of the terminals you'll find today.

A quick note - on the torque boxes... You did remember that you have to cut a hole in them, right? Otherwise you can't tighten the front spring hangers at the body.

Thanks, but take another look. The springs are inboard.
But one thing I cant use anymore is a set of nice casters I made to roll the car around on. They bolted on there and a set up front too.
You can sort of see them in this picture.

LOL... sorry. I totally looked past the new brackets... Cool build

I was able to put some more time in on the Demon over the past week.
I cut out some sheet metal pieces to fill in the speaker holes where the roll bar is going through. I figured it would be easier if I eliminated the oval shape so I cut it to be almost square. I made the 2 piece with a flange to connect the two.
I also made an adjustable brake plunger.
We're planning on getting started on the engine some time this summer so I called to order a crank scraper from Ishihara-Johnson. They sent me this template to cut to fit my crank and rods. They told me that there's too many odd-ball cranks out there now and doing it this way takes all of the guess work out. I think that this is a smart way to go. I would rather spend an hour doing this than getting a cookie cutter part off the shelf. But that's just me.

Until next time.............Ted

wonder if anyone has ever thot about a crankscraper that is thicker, to double as a girdle ?

Wow nice build Ted. What are the specs on the Low Deck..?

I have an eagle forged rotating assembly for it. The plan is to run it on E-85 so I'll be targeting a static compression of 12 to 1. I want to run a set of the new Trick-Flow 240 heads.
I have a dominator for it but it needs to be converted to e-85 specs. I'm thinking of running an M-1 intake.

Not to hijack your thread.. But thoughts on 470 vs 512 ? I have a desire for a high reving "B" block.

The Demon project has been on hold for a while. But I have now had some time to get back on it.
My buddy came out and we finished installing the cage. Now with that finished I was able to put in the bulkhead pieces that I had made a few months ago.
I put a quick coat of Rustolium silver on everything. I'm planning on painting the cage with a charcoal grey. I think that will look pretty sharp.
While we were welding stuff we filled in the heater motor hole. I did a little quick body work on it. I just cleaned it up some. I wasn't going for the super smooth Pro/Street look. The I shot the engine compartment with some epoxy primer.
Here's a few shots.
