Let her look at some of the other builds on here. It takes time to reverse 50 years of deterioration. My 67 barracuda was like peeling a rotten onion. The farther in i went, the worse it got. I am now at i think the halfway point. All the awful stuff is fixed. Maybe having pix of finished darts to look at to see the results will help. Maybe get it far enough along that it can be driven while completing the bodywork. These things are a never ending work in progress. Some of the satisfaction lies in reversing the years of damage, and stepping back and looking at your accomplishment and saying wow i actually fixed that.

I am into my barracuda since 2009. Its now 2016. Its been awhile. For me its not the end result, but the journey it took to get there. She is making great progress for having it about 1 year. Taking a break from it is ok if she needs to. Also putting her in a set of wheels to her get to school and work helps too. I am sure she enjoys the work on it, and prob wouldent mind how long it takes because she has something to drive now.

Make up a list of things you need to do to make it driveable and insurable, and do all that first. I see lots of cars at shows that are works in progress. This way she can enjoy it, then put it in the garage in the fall and work on it thru the winter.

Also make a list on what it needs interior wise and body wise, and slowly pick away at it. During the winter months. Its like the analogy (how do you eat a whole elephant ?) The answer is (one bite at a time)

Maybe show her what i typed here, and please take a look at the pix in my photo garage of my 67 barracuda. Her dart looks way more complete and in better shape than mine was when i got it.

We do spend time looking at a lot of the builds on several sites and car shows. I share with her all the post that we get on her car etc.
We have a photo album with all of what we have done to it at this point. She has a list of stuff to do to it to just get it on the road, that is her first goal. She said I don't care want it looks like everyone can just kiss my butt if they don't like it, it is mine and I did this..
It is hard when we get in to it and find rot on the frame and a arm mounts. I think that we can fix it just she needs to save up more moneys, and being this is her senior year in high school she has other things that she is spending her moneys on.. We found a guy that had the a arm mounts from a parts car so we got the pass side and know we need the drivers side also. Also got a kit for the brake lines and the one for the rear that goes on the diff wont fit. (kit said it was for the smaller rear but it doesn't fit) So we are going to let her drive my 70 nova for a few weeks until we start getting bad weather. She is a very determined girl and she will do this, with all of the positivity that she is getting from her family and all the car folks out there I think she will get there.

Well it isn't any closer to getting on the road and know that the days are shorter and starting to get colder. She is still getting stuff for it, we will do what we can before It is to cold to work on it. But this is what her Mom and I did to it today.(Nov 8th)

Hey, on the brake lines, i purchased the brake line in a 50 foot long coil from jc whitney when i restored my 60 el camino and upgraded it to disc brakes and dual master cylinder. I had to plumb it all custom. I bought a double flare tool and practiced on my dining room table with a foot of brake line until i was able to make the flares correct every time. You can buy the gravel guard (springy wire covering for the tubing) by itself as well. May be easier and cheaper to bend your own. I think a 50' roll cost me about $20
 
looks like your having a great time being with your kids and teaching them all about the transportation world . maintaining the vehicle in safe working order is a life giving lesson a gift that keeps a life time long . have a 69 dart gts myself , just sitting there . that could be a great car restored . eng/trans/re (340 727 8 3/4 354ls) are done , just the rest that needs attention .

Yea thinking that's what we are going to do. It's only the lines on the rear end that don't fit. Made some for my sons 68 C/10 and they work good.

Thanks, Yes it is a great time love it. Even getting the granddaughter in to it. Need to get going on your dart is what my daughter said.

WOW. Time goes by so fast at times. Just a little update on the lack of work we have done on her dart... Well I went to Colorado in November for work, and yep July I moved the family out here. (From Missouri) Only bad thing is we had to leave her Dart and 2 other of our classics there in storage. Wanted to go back and get them after getting settled in here, but our Durango didn't see it our way and now we don't have a vehicle worthy of going and getting her dart nor the moneys. Know it is getting close to Christmas so guessing will have to wait tell spring now. She still looks for parts and talks about her dart. This is one of the hardest parts is wanting to get her Dart here and working on it with her but not sure when and how we will do this... Keeping our fingers crossed we can get them classics here A.S.A.P.

That's great! Its very rewarding to take something that has been neglected and bring it back to life, and she will be driving a cool car, I started on a 69 340 dart 15 months ago and found that most of the parts I needed were fairly easy to find, although not cheap.

She has been helping me wrench on it and buying her own parts with her own money.. She is now 19 and just cant wait to drive her little Dart Custom. Yea these parts are not cheap. She has got a few parts from peoples here on this site and other searches she has found..

And yet another year has gone by and still her dart is not here with her.. We have got in the over price trap of renting.. Lets hope this spring we will be getting her dart out here as she is so wanting to at least have it here, then the work will follow.. We fell like such a losers not being able to help with getting her car out here. Anyone know of a company that can transport it at an affordable price.?
 
I dont know of anybody who can, but fabo is a pretty big family. Maybe somebody here knows of somebody who can, or is willing to help.

Thanks! Wouldn't it make a great weekend for a bunch of the Mizzou A-body folks to go break the car out of storage get it ready for the road and drive it to Colorado?! NO? Just my type of crazy then?

I'd have to see if I still have access to a flatbed trailer. Depending on the cities it would be about 1100 miles for me personally. Less if @statten69 wanted to meet in KS.

I hate that my cars are ten miles away, I couldn't imagine leaving them behind. I'd chip in for fuel.
