Hi everyone.

In the market for a new TV, and Walmart has a 70" screen. Anybody have a TV this big? It sounds cool but I don't want to buy something like this and get it home just to discover it's annoying to watch. It's like 1000 bucks, trying to do some due diligence before I drop a bunch of cash.

Depends on the size of your living room/ surrounding areas. Is it too big for the room it is going in? It can be smaller and be just right for the room.

Size of the room is definitely a consideration! I have a pretty large living room 20x30 roughly and a 55", viewing is great. As we get older a bit larger could be nice.

I'm always a little suspicious of electronics at Walmart. Years ago I was looking at 110V inverters. I narrowed it down to one at Walmart and one at Target. They were they same brand and looked almost identical with the exception of the one at Walmart didn't have the muffin fan installed. Probably made to their spec to meet a price point. I bought the one at Target, it was cheaper anyways.

Salespeople say calculate your distance in inches divided by 2. So you'd want to sit no closer than approx 12 ft from a 70" TV.

Try this; Look at .....................................................................................this.
Now......this
Now look at them both. See! You can't even see them both together at a viewing distance of about 2ft. Pick any word in a sentence here, and try to read a word on either side of it, without moving your eyes or head............... Pretty hard,eh
If the TV gets too big for your viewing distance, The only thing you will be watching is the part you are actually looking at.And you can only move back so far until you back into a wall.If the TV is too small, you can always snuggle up to it, until it is just right.
Save your money;sit closer!

One more thing that really shocked me; If you are into sports or action movies or anything with a lot of motion in it, you have to be real careful. On some of the bigger stuff, the action tends to get blurry. You gotta roadtest several of them side-by-side.
I only have a 37, and a 42", but from 12ft to 6 ft or so, I want for no more, either one. Although the smaller on gets watched on Zoom, a lot.But I'm not into sports, and the wifee watches these ridiculously boring, pointless, time-eating, brain numbing, gameshows. Oh yeah, I as good as quit watching TV last spring. I'm kindof addicted to this laptop with it's 15 screen..................

My 51 projection tv just died about a week ago. Using a 32 I had downstars for now. At 8 to 12ft either is OK. I think up to 55 would be good for our room. 60 might be too much. Growing up our B&W was probably 19" with a crap picture and poor reception. We watched it from any angle at any distance. LOL

I have a 55' curved screen. we can see the picture pretty well in the kitchen, almost a full 90 degrees from the tv in the living room Samsung, seems to be a great investment. happy w/ it so far, like the curved screen !

Wow thanks everyone. I think my living room is big enough to handle a 70", but lots of other things to consider.

i have a 60" sharp.. love it.. wish it was bigger.. at the time i went with a 3D tv to get the faster fefresh rate..

Our 55 inch Sony Bravia 4KHD was 975 bucks new 2 years ago at Best Buy. I do shop at Warmalt. I bought the screen cleaner kit from there LOL.
During the past Christmas season sales, 55 inch 4K smart set tvs of various brands were offered at about half what I paid.
I'll assume you are looking at the latest and greatest, a curved UHD.
The consumer report like independent testing I've seen says the difference in 4K and UHD/ultra high definition cannot be seen with the human eye unless you're viewing small portion of the screen at about 1 to 2 feet away. So in reality, "U" is only a industry sales gimmick.
Search YouTube, 4K versus UHD. The only mystery is what will they call the next so called improvement. Actually 1 change, upgrade or not, is here now... OLED. The "O" stands for organic, meaning environment friendly. WTF? they're using fire flys? I aint done that research. Hope I don't need to for several more years.
Also consider this... the signal received makes all the difference. Our same single layer DVDs in the same old DVD player didn't look a lot better than before on the 42 inch crt, just bigger.

And don't fall for the ultra HD either (4K)unless you know what the deal is with those.
Almost no channels are ultra HD which is 4x1080P and a couple hundred extra dollars.

Look for something in the minimum 240 hertz refresh rate for non blurry action.
Some of the "smart" TV's have a built in browser and some don't and it's a nice feature to have, because other wise you can't use it like an internet connected computer.
You will have Netflix, Hulu, You Tube, and stuff like that built in, but you wouldn't be able to use it for Craigslist, FABO, or any other site on the internet that there isn't a specific app for.

I see redfish told you about the UHD. :D

Got a free 60 incher coming. We got a couple cell phones for Christmas and got a free tv. I was supposed to get a 58" but they weren't available so they are sending a 60" instead. Lucky day. I should buy a lottery ticket.

I have a 65 inch Samsung Smart TV, hung on the wall and it's great...you have to watch out for stores like walmart, it's the same thing like buying appliances from lowes/home depot...brand names yes, internal components are substandard and those units are built specifically for those stores. I got mine at PC Richards and it was a fair deal...this was about 5yrs ago tho.

125" projection system. I watch regular TV and movies on it. Netflix too. If you want the TV to dominate the room, then nothing is better at this time than projection TV (for the money). I only have a 1080P projector (with 3D) and even at 125" diagonal, it is very sharp. The bottom photo was taken with the flash. I normally watch with all room lights off, but I have various lighting levels, including red background lights if others are watching with me.

As for a LCD, OLED, etc. bigger is better in my opinion. Considering that your viewing position is optimal too (I.e. Not too close). I would recommend a 70" TV for 8-10' away minimum. I also would go with the OLED.

Hey, just saw this... Latest and greatest is called a wallpaper tv. 1/10 of an inch thick, like a cell phone. 6000 bucks.

That would be cool if they put it into a roll-down screen. You could roll it up out of the way whenever you're not watching it. I'll bet that it is still bright with natural room lighting too!

I do love technology improvements!

When I sized my tv it said I could go to 65" in the recliner furthest away. Went with a 60" because it was the one we liked best at the time. I watch tv mostly from my computer desk only a few feet from the tv and have no problems with that. From the recliner the tv looks small. Lol.

Mine is a 3D smart tv. Had to go 3D at the time to get the 240 he refresh rate I wanted. I'm sure most are smart tv's and have the faster refresh rates these days. When I got mine not many had the faster rate. Bought it at pc Richards with 0% financing and it came with a matching blue ray player. Forget how long the 0% was but I had it easily paid off before the limit.
