I have a 1976 Fury Salon that will crank and start very briefly but will cut off almost immediately. The engine will not run on starter fluid or if you hold the throttle down. It just starts and then shuts off. I was wondering about the ignition once it goes from the start position to the run position.

I would try another ballast resistor or a new ignition control box....

Not sure bout the 4 connector ones but on the two prong you just bypass it (connect the wires together) if it starts and keeps running after you release the ign sw from start to run , you ve honed in on your problem , just don t run it like that for any extended perion of time , you ll fry the ign.coil and/or ign. box...

It starts very briefly and cuts off, it seems to stay running if I keep the key turned to the start position.
