SHIFTER BOOT OR NOT
I think I have read it, or I may have dreamt it :) but did the 4 speed cars leave Hurst lacking a shifter boot?
Picture found on the net...

CORRECTION
This photo I found in the book, HEMI A History of Chrysler´s Iconic V-8 In Competition by Geoff Stunkard.

I have seen many early pictures of these cars and I have never seen one without a boot.

Well I still think this may have been the case. And it may have had something to do with the reverse lock out lever. In the SS Guide it says a shifter boot was not used with the original shifter...
It´s a shame non of the "old guys" who raced or maybe even owned one step in, or they may not frequent threads like this...
I still have a few questions hanging with a fat question mark... like another detail from the Guide, is the horn being purple on the Barracudas??
I have one early picture of the Castaldo Dart, but it isn´t of much help in this case...

Once again here is my thoughts.

We have all seen the hand written check sheet saying "Purple Road Runner horn" This is generally a good indication that this was something they did back in the day. My problem is on 1968 Road Runners the "meep meep" horn was painted black. True that the BOs were very late in the year but it still makes me wonder.

Yes, I´m bound to agree. I have been digging all week, and very surprisingly on one seem to know of a ´68 RR with a purple horn, or if there ever was one.
Another thing... we say late Road Runner might have one. What does late mean? First run of BO,s was ready in the middle or 18:th of Februari. I would guess late RR,s was delivered in April-Maj, June even? I don´t know...
I think, with the great succés Chrysler had with the Road Runner, they were well on their way with the ´69 model, and the purple horn was all ready in their paper work, but not on the shelf... so maybe that is how the Guys in the Hemi A-Body Program got to know about it, and figured it would bee cool with this purple horn thing :)
Ill go with black horn...

TRUNK BATTERY
I was thinking of cutting the trunk battery support plat, but I have seen two slightly different. In the SS Guide is a picture of an original plate. Probably from a Dart. I figured the one with the notch in the rear right corner, you now can get, was later done by Hurst to be able to move the battery further back, and to the right. Or maybe it was done to all the BO,s, because of the tight fit in the trunk of the Barracuda, and the plate hitting the jack stand support bracket. Later when you could order a Trunk Battery Kit through DC in 1973 I think it was, I think they all had the notch. Second picture from Kramer A.S.
Well another question mark...
Would be nice to see one original battery support plate from a Fastback...

Valve Cover Breather Cap
I found this Oil Cap the other day on a forum here in Sweden. I figure Chrysler did not make these caps specially for the SS Cars, but rather looked for something already on some manufactures shelf. I have seen similar caps on Fords from the fifties or maybe earlier. And it wouldn´t surprise me one bit if this cap is form an old Flathead... :)
Only reason I can think of for using a big cap like this, is a bigger cap will breath better... I may reveal my ignorance here, but till someone tell the real reason for not using a ordinary cap, I´ll got with this theory.
Is the Cap I have found, of the same type used on the Race Hemi when delivered from Hurst?
Cap is 3 by 2". Other picture is from Judy Lilly´s Barracuda.
Comment on, don´t be shy and take a look at my earlier post about the Battery Support Plate. Someone should know something about this. I think this Forum still have something to proof, I mean I have have many posts, still left with a question mark behind.
Thank You

I have seen many early pictures of these cars and I have never seen one without a boot.
......and I haven't seen one without any bolts in the transmission cross member.

Maybe it was in the process of a trans swap or replacement.

Well, when I come to think of it, since this cap is a ventilation cap, not an oil cap, it is not from a flathead... But still from a 50-60´s Ford is my guess.

FRONT SUSPENSION TRAVLE STOP
Well that´s what I call this device, here shown on an early Pro Stock.
When was it introduced to the SS cars... I know some racers had some sort of device, but thing it wasn´t till later in to the seventies... Right?
Pictures found on the www.

That's our car (B/MP) built by Ron Butler. We're not sure if that limiting chain was put on by Leal
(Butch couldn't remember) or by the other people that have owned it and raced it in Super Pro
over the last 40 years. It would be effective however. When it was new it still had all of the inner
fender/core support structure and now has it again.

Well it wasn´t that hard to figure out from were they got this crank case vent. cap, once I started digging a little deeper.
I soon left the Ford track, although some of their caps look very similar, they have a different bottom. No the guys within the SS A-Body Program didn´t look far at all, since this Cap can be found on a few other Mopar engines around this time. So it wasn´t hard to get another one.
But a usual, as a wannabe I have to make a reservation, and can´t garanti these caps are identical to the one used on the Race Hemi. But they will do on my project.
Valve Cover Ventilation Caps... Check.

Can you post some pictures of what your going to use and a part number?? Love to see it.

Ok, first picture that showed up on a board here in Sweden. I jumped on it, and when I got it I thought this may be it...

So I post an ad showing it, and this guy says he has one on his Slant 6. Picture of another Slant 6 though...

Here one picture of what I believe is correct and a shot of mine...

Finally another pic of a slant 6 found on the net.
It seems they came ´66-67 but I have also seen comments about them being on the ´64-65 SS B-Bodys too, so they may have been found on earlier Slant 6 as well. Haven´t dug into that though...
And no... part number I didn´t look for.

And thanks Troy for showing interest. The Forum ins`t exactly boiling :)

It's funny where you find different parts like those breathers....they look good to me!
Let you in on a little secret. You know the intake mounting bolts plugs on Hemis and max wedges intake manifolds?....those plugs are also used as fill plugs on 7 1/4 rear ends.

So where can a guy buy a set of the breathers pictured? Thanks in advance.

Hmm... Thanks, god to know incase you lose one.. the set sure was expensive.

HEADERS?
Well may be it is just me who doesn´t know for sure but... can we settle this once and for all.
I´m talking about the original Hooker Headers.
Are the primary pipes 1 7/8" or 2.0"? I have seen info of both. I have a sense the 2.0" info might be a sloppy measurement of a 1 7/8" tube?
Lengths of the primaries? 36"?
Collector is 3" and 26" long?
Pleas help... can´t sleep at night :)
Thank You.

GLOVE BOX NO WARRANTY STICKER?

Ok, no one can verify the 1 7/8" primaries?

What about this one? Need the correct size of this Sticker.

On eBay there is a seller name Hemieddy he says he has a pair of original headers......try looking him up and see if he can get a measurement for you. I heard there 2" but have no proof of it.

Well, still no one can confirm the 1 7/8 size of the original headers used... How hard can it be? Or I guess that means on one with real insight in how these cars where put together follow this thread... so no need to continue asking questions. Meaning thread is closed.
I still want to thank you guys who did you best, and got me a bit further on my way with this project.
Good luck with your projects and your cars, and drive safe.
Thank You
Stefan

Did you talk to Hemi Eddy on eBay that says he has an original pair of these headers for sale?

Few things you need to remember about these cars is they were not a production car so nothing was documented very well and things changed all the time so it's hard to keep up with what was correct. I know for a fact that the racers changed out the headers very quickly because they were too small. That only leaves 1 7/8 or 2" were used.

When you build a project like the one your building and you don't have all the answers, the one thing you need the most of is friends. If you want to close this thread because nobody has the answers that you want to hear then go ahead.....lets see how well your project goes then.

I have a question. what is the part number for the alternator on these cars
