anyone running a hydroboost setup in their A body, particularly in a Big block A body? I'm wondering if a stock style power steering pump is suffice to operate it or did it require something else?

I run hydraboost in my Scout. Stock PS pump, with added cooler, has worked just fine for me. Check out VanCo PBS.. They have lots of experience with that stuff.

thanks ben. I thought about going to an electric power steering set up as well. but figured since I'm not looking for every fraction of a HP, that it'd be a waste of money unless I truly need it

I am in the process of adapting a hydroboost to my dart from a Ford van.

Everything I have read on this website has said that the stock power steering pump will work fine and nobody has had any known issues. I plan to run the stock pump.
So far I have 50 bucks invested into the whole setup. Just have to figure out the lines

My local ag store can make high pressure hoses for them for cheap. They use a pneumatic machine to crimp the ends to whatever size fittings needed

i run a hydro boost on my 72 demon.. got it out of a astro van and the MC from a 96 camaro i believe.. using a swag pump..

Maybe a PS pump from a Dodge truck with hydra boost would bolt to your brackets. I bought a 5.9 Magnum motor out of a 98 3500, and it had hydra boost. The PS pump has 3 hoses on the back of it, but I never saw how it was configured because the dude had the motor out when I got there. The pump looks just like the same pumps in our old cars, except for the 3 hoses instead of just 2.

Can you run a hydro boost without power steering ? Will it work or is it for power steering only.

No you need the power steering pump to run The hydrodoost and you can delete the PS box if not needed. It uses hydraulics to to operate the brakes instead of vacuum.

You only need a power steering pump. You won't need to run a power steering box. Just have to have something to push the fluid. They do make electric power steering pumps that you could use as wel

Thanks for posting pic! Do you know what year astro van you got it from? I'm thinking of doing same and buying a remanufactured unit, but not sure what year to shop for! Also, what master cylinder did you decide to go with? I'm assuming you have disc all the way around? Also, there is some talk about using a aluminum plate adapter on firewall, did you find this necessary? Thanks in advance!!!!

94 astro van I believe. The master cylinder is from a 96 Camaro. I have front disk, rear drum brakes and never used any aluminum plate adapter. go to the junk yard and get your hydroboost. they easy to rebuild and it will save you.

Hey Mopardemon, last question, I promise! What power steering pump did you use? Interested to know if you modified your existing pump for return line(s) or purchased something like a Borgenson Saginaw pump? Have a great weekend!
