I have a 67 Barracuda with a set of direct drilled Crager S/S wheels 5 on 4 mopar bolt pattern 7/16 -20 lug thread.
My issue is when I torque the lugs to the specified 75 ft/lbs it bends the lug washer bad, even brand new Crager lug sets that I that just put on. It is like the washers a to soft. Is this normal/safe?
Thanks in advance for your reply
PS My old lugs/washers were bent just as bad I doubt they ever held torque.

early aftermarket rims crager american us indy all used shank type lug nuts with thin flatwashers . the washers are so the rims didn't get scared n chewed up for the lugnuts. yes the washer get bent by the lug hex . some have a deeper spot face for the washers to sit in , i've found that washer have two different od's 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 . the 1 1/8 bends up more then the larger ones . but an abody 4'' pattern is very tight on the center cone . could be part of the reason . putting some early vintage americans t70's14x6 3/4 , built special for the 4'' bc . lets see how it goes . just doing the noise like the 43ir its a 64 barracuda 15x8's steelies on the rear i built .

but is that for the shank washer type lugs as well . new stuff is different as you can read .

Good question the website does not say any type. I will ask Crager and get back to ya.
it wouldn't hurt to send then some pics of the wheel stud holes, lug nuts and distorted washers. Maybe they have not had any feedback and are unaware of a problem.
So you mentioned the studs are 7/16" NF, but have you actually measured the drilled stud holes? How much bigger than the nut shanks are the stud holes in the wheels?

i run shank type with my americans , i never berry the lugs , armstrong tight . they should not come loose unless the lug holes are nice , slotted holes have an issue . the only issue shank type had was to long of a shank , would come to the part of the stud that flares out and flare itself would drag on the inside of the rim holes , shorting and counterslink the shanks threaded ends was the fit . and for to long of studs , top the tops off , but that more work that fixing the studs .

I have shank style on my 67 with SS. I broke the damned nit "guessing" the torque.
I went with factory spec and no issues. Obviously retorque after a short drive

Can I assume you mean 55 ft/lb's as the factory spec? Or something else?

Yep, even my 69 fsm says 55. I think I torqued to 70 amd split the lug.
Do so at your own risk tho. Lol I did and still here.
