I finally did it... I bought a lift! I got tired of jacking up the Valiant and crawling on the floor to work. After a lot of debate and research, I decided that a four post would suit my needs the best. I need it to be moveable since my shop isn't dedicated to working on the cars- I need to get the boats / tractors and other Misc. toys in there too from time to time. It arrived yesterday and I'm still getting it assembled, though most of the heavy work is done now.

Putting one of these beasts together is no small feat when you're working solo!

I can't wait to get it working- I have a bunch of projects planned that will be made a LOT easier.

Congrats... don't let none of your buddies know you have it or you'll never get to use it... lol

congrats!!

i see "Bendpak" lifts on all the car shows. i think they are a California company. they must be good as there are a lot of them being used. at some point when i quit throwing money at the M-Code Cuda i'm working on right now, i'm going to buy a "Backyard Buddy" 4 post lift.

may you have many "happy hours" with your "new toy."

Thanks. Yeah, it will be nice once it's up and running. I looked at the backyard buddy lifts, but they were more $$$, and I was already stretching the budget a little with the BendPak. I didn't see much more added value with the BB lifts, in fact to some people since they aren't certified they aren't as favorable.

Originally, I was looking at the 'no name' Chinese lifts that are sold by a lot of different people under various 'brand names', but decided to invest a little more. There WILL be a car over my head, after all... You get a much more robust lift, and a much better warranty, with the BendPaks.

Congrats.

I have never seen a " moveable " 4 post lift?

hi kmrumedy...

"moveable" 4 post lifts are lifts that can be moved around and do not have to be bolted to the floor. back yard buddy and a couple of other manufacturers offer these. basically, this option consists of 4 large caster wheels on "offset" lever attachments. these casters are installed on the bottom of each of the four posts to move the lift around the shop. when they are on the backyard buddy lift, as the lift comes down, it contacts the protruding levers and raises the lift off the ground. i think one of the other manufacturers has the same automatic lift design.

on the backyard buddy, i think the caster option is about $500 but they would be worth the cost if you wanted to move the lift outside in the summer to work on cars - or to move it around the shop if you had a big building.

Jim, don't worry about the Backyard Buddy not being "certified". They are just unwilling to pay the extortion fee to get a sticker. Bend Pak's are nice lifts, but I just didn't want to have to have an air line to unlock it. I bought a Super Lift, made in Missouri. No matter what kind of lift a person chooses, never, EVER get under it without doing a walk around and checking all 4 locks to make sure they are engaged properly. I do it every time.....I'm too old to get smushed! lol

I agree- The certification or lack thereof is not a deal killer for me, either- While they DO have to prove their lift to get certified they also have to 'pay to play'... There are quality lifts (backyard buddy included) that are not certified.

To me that wasn't really an issue, air is readily available in my shop. I actually like the air activated safetys, they operate very nicely.

Well, It's installed and working... Makes life a LOT easier.

Access is pretty good, too. Of course, there are some things that I will have to jack the car up for so the wheels are off the ramps, but it is SO nice to be able to stand up, or sit down, and work instead of crawl!
