leaf spring bushings/Grease

I'm just about to replace the leaf springs on my 71 dart,
I have new springs with the front bushings installed and a new rear shackle kit with rubber bushings. Should I use grease on the rear rubber bushings? and, if so , what is recommended?

Don't use grease. It will break down the rubber in the bushing. Use a silicone based lubricant if you need to install. Otherwise, it isn't needed.

Liquid soap or flax soap as in tire mounting should make them slip in a little easier. Water soluble too.

if the rear shackles are stock i think they will tighten to the stops with the correct
amount of pressure on the rubber bushing...i'd leave them dry.

I wouldn't grease those bushings either. However, maybe synthetic lube is okay to use? I just saw Mark Worman insist that they all be lubed. He says they'll squeak if you don't. He used that red lube on them (which is probably synthetic AFAIK).

How about a bucket of steam?
I have always used plain jane wheel bearing grease on the rears.
Factory manuals states," Coat both ends of torsion bar with Multi-milage Lubricant, Part Number: 2525035 or equivalent."
If you call your local Chrysler parts dealer parts dept and give them that number they can cross it up to a recent number.

I use a silicone based lube, much like the caliper grease that you get in the small tubes! It keeps them from seizing in the spring or in the pin! They do suggest using it for poly bushings as well!
