Found a Source for 10” rear drums with 1-3/4” shoe

get a large sheet of stiff paper. measure the ID of the register hole on the new BBP drums. stick the point of a compass in the paper and trace a circle the dia of the BBP register hole. then trace a 2nd circle of 4.5" dia. then make a pinpoint prick with the compass at any place along the circumference of the 4.5" circle. then make another pinpoint mark along the circumference 2.645" but in a straight line tangent (2.645" in a straight line) with your ruler. repeat (3) more times. drill these (5) pinpoint prick marks out to the dia needed for 1/2" studs. use this template to locate the new 4.5" BBP holes in the new SBP drum (if I am reading this right). the BBP center register is larger on the BBP drums so the center hole will need to be enlarged (if needed, did not read all the way thru so see what you are going with). FYI SBP (7/16) holes would be 2.351" along that same straight line tangent working with a 4" dia circle & to confirm, that distance is center to center of the holes from the pinpoint prick marks

oldpunko, anything w/ K-H rotors would be SBP (4"D bolt circle), plus BBP didn't start until 1973 in A-bodies. The Tire Rack site shows how to measure bolt circle. I think all cars w/ K-H front disks had 10" rear drums. Don't know if they were still 1.75" wide in 1972. Go to rockauto and look at 10" rear drums for those years. Centric usually has a nice drawing w/ dimensions. Also, there was a rare 8.75" rear-end on some sporty cars. I recall reading they had unique rear drums w/ a bell shape, so search if your rear is such.
 
Mine has bell type drum and yes they are 10 and yes this car order 8 3/4

Search for the thread(s) on that. As I recall, the bell drums are not avail new, and people have fit a rectangular drum for another model w/ wider shoes (to reach the backing plate). The shoes then contact just part of the drum, which is OK. Doesn't apply to me, so not the expert. Next time, try to state these critical details up front.
 
Question for you guys that have bought these...how are the weights on them?

I bought a new set of wheels and the weights on my old drums interfered with them, so now I need new drums

DO these have weights at all or are they placed in a spot where they don't protrude into the mounting surface?
 
Mine had none, the old ones didn't either.............

To diymirage: Look at the 2nd picture in the original post and you will see a balancing weight. I didn't have any interference issues.

Hey Gents... it's been forever since I've been on the site but I knew I would be able to find answers to the questions I had!

Just like the rest of you I'm working on the rear brakes and I still have drums and they are the 10 X 1 3/4 and I couldn't find them anywhere in town. I thought I had seen them on the Rock Auto previously but when you search by the make model of car they don't show up. I did the search with the Centric part number and they come up but there is no information attached to them stating the size or bolt pattern. I've never been steered wrong here so I'm going to go ahead and order this part# and from what I'm seeing here they should be the correct drums?? right??

Fingers crossed they are correct.

they were as off 2 weeks ago, when i ordered mine
one side was gorgeous, no weight what so ever
the other side had a good sized weight on it, BUT it looked like it was installed by someone who stopped and considered the application, so even though there is a 3 inch strip of balancing weight on the drum it is installed on the lower outer ridge so that it doesn't protrude into the mounting surface and doesn't interfere with the wheel
 
I got the funky OEM bell shaped 10 drums and my 8 inch 14's dont fit! Anyone Want to trade? Darn bell is too big out back for a deep 14, I guess a 15 Centeline must just clear it.
 
This is a little delayed but, I got mine in two or three days from Rock Auto. I think the price was $29 each and shipping, I know the total was under $70. They fit perfect with the rally wheels I have. This drum doesn't come up on Rock Auto when you search by the car model and size, you have to use the part number. It's a bit sketchy because the size isn't listed in the description. I was concerned about ordering them at first but I figured I had nothing to loose because I couldn't get them locally so this was my last shot with changing to the big bolt pattern.

The part number is 123.63044 and other than drum brake with a manufacture of CENTRIC there is nothing in the description that tells you it is a 10 x 1 3/4 rear brake drum but it is and it worked for my car. Summit is selling the same part for $48 so I would go with Rock Auto.

does anyone have the centric drums available to measure the OD? Im trying to see if it will fit my deep 14 rim. Im looking for < 11.5"
 
On a standard 14x5.5 rim, I can easily fit my finger in there. On a 14x4.5 wheel they also fit. However your rims or mags may be different. I measure the O.D. as exactly 11.5". I tried to get the Centric dimensional drawing, but I wasn't able to locate it.

Thanks for the pics. Mine are 8 wide so they are very deep as mine touch with about an inch to go to the bolt face if yours are 11.500 OD , I'll have to measure mine again to see if they will just fit. There is no way my 'helmet' type drums will fit these.

Yes. Your rims go straight for a longer distance, whereas the standard wheels open up more. I went out and measured again, I may have to correct my outer diameter to 11-5/8. It is a little hard to measure because the ridge is not on the bottom edge. The ridge could be machined down a little with no loss of functionality. You are are literally "right on the edge." Good luck.
 
Have plasma...Will cut lip.if that helps. :) don't have a lathe though...

I looked at mine again and dug out the cheap Shyneese caliper. It is 11.600" vs the 11-3/4" I got with the Craftsman 20' depth indicator (Lol, tape).
I don't see any reason the OD on these drums couldn't be machined down if you have the ability. There's no lip on them anyway. My old stock drum is 11-1/2" over the OD of the outer lip.
 
Im way off, I cut a wire coast to coast and I measure 11.25. These are 9 inch drum rims now...or a very small import disk setup.
