my m-code cuda is now sitting in my garage after a year and a half with AMD's resto shop "rebuilding" the car. i'm starting to think about parts i will need.

the k frame in the car was "butchered" by the former drag race guys who built the car for the strip. it CANNOT be reused. the original m cudas came with 383's then hurst installed 440's. i know several companies make motor mounts capable of putting a 440 into about any barracuda regardless of the original k member/engine.

do you guys know if it would be easier to find an original 383 k member to drop the 440 on or are the current motor mounts so good that it doesn't matter which k member i use? i do have a very nice "small block" (318/340) k member that would solve my problem "IF" i can drop a 440 on it with "somebody's" motor mounts.

i do want this cuda to be as "original" as possible so if there is a big difference between a "big block" k member and a "small block" one then i'll try and find the big block model.

thanks...

visually there is a huge difference between a big bock k-frame and small block or 6 cyl. k-frame..

if ya want it as original as possible then find the proper k-frame.. they pop up for sale from time to time.. not cheap though.

the driver side pad is in a way forward position on a big bloc one.. it also needs a block that has the holes on front of the block drilled and tapped for the special sock mounts..

And, the 440 mount is modified from that one.

Do you have the mounts? Are the mount perches on the k-member good? If it were my car and I had the parts you have (as long as the mount perches are good), I'd take the mount perches off the big block k-member and put them on the small block...

Ended up selling my 69 big block project to finish my race car motor. I have a unmolested 68-69 big block k I no longer need. Pm me. Rich

the engine brackets were : right side just plain ole OEM BB bracket, the left side special , the pic A bodyjoe showed is correct. I have a set of both brackets,, but sitting back at my ole place in Mo. Shuchmacker makes that left side bracket too, correct repop.
Direct Connection had a blueprint as to how to make the A body M code k member using spool brackets also. I am sure it is easy to find.

The picture of the left motor mount is correct for 383 and it will also work on 440 blocks but not correct for M code cars

Here is the correct 1969 M code 440 driver side motor mount bracket.
Here is my old Cuda with the motor mount bracket.

jogged my memory. didn't the factory simply take the A body 383 bracket and weld on that extension? cool cars no doubt.

back in later 90's I had original 67 383 cuda, and passed on M code cuda with perfect body and fresh # eng, because someone sotle the hood scoops!! ha

yes its close to the 383 mount, its bent out instead of forward the motor and angle iron welded on it to go to the oil pump notches and those are drilled and taped.

Pics of k frame looks to have small dent but no damage. Never seen a side to side comparison so I will leave it up to the experts.

Couple more pics. 475.00 plus actual shipping cost. Jim has first shot Dave has second.

It does not matter at this point as you have already expressed that you were not "restoring it to original". You are putting in a stick so do what makes sense! Any K with the right mounting that works with the 833 should do you!

I would put ears in and 4 link for your desires but I digress!

hey davescuda...

i just got off the phone with nwdart ... he's sounds like a very cool guy!! we talked about his dart race car and his other mopars. he's got some very cool cars!! i'm going to buy the k member he posted above. after i media blast it and take a "big hammer" to the dent, it will work out great in my 440 cuda.

as always, FABO is THE BEST when it comes to sorting out parts and building issues on A-body mopars!!

Okay that's a good thing better than making one.

I also have the K-member from the candy striped M-code Fastback........

hi dave...

yes... the "infamous" candy stripped m-code. i looked at that car twice and missed the owner the second day by only 2 hours - only to find out on the third trip to his house when i finally did catch up with him that he had sold the car THE DAY BEFORE!! (when i had missed him by 2 hours) - FOR $2000!! when i had been on his door step with $5000 in cash for the car!!

but i am a very strong believer in "things working out the way they are suppose to". after the guy from the Philadelphia area got the car, i saw his posts here on FABO about how bad the car was, and that it wasn't salvageable - only good for parts. but anyone who loves cars has a story about "the one that got away" and i am still sad i missed that car.

now as to the K-member. i'm buying the k member from nwdart that he posted above. he and i already talked on the phone and settled the deal. HOWEVER, i would still like to buy the k member you have off of the "candy stripped" m car. would you send me a message with your price? i don't know which of the two will be the best to use.

thanks... oh... i do need the motor mounts and i'm pretty sure they were on the "candy-stripped" car. would you like to sell them? if so, give me a price in your message...

Hey folks
I am putting a 440 into my 69 barracuda convertible. I am makeing a M code clone. I have the manifolds ,k member, 383 motor mounts . My question is the drivers side motor mount is a modified 383 mount . It bolts to the bosses that the oil pump bolts to . Can I have to drill these out with out screwing my motor, (1970 440) or what year of a motor do I need to find That already has these bosses factory drilled.
I dont want to use schumacker mounts

The 383 and 440 mounts are different. 383 use the bosses on the front of the engine. The 440 uses the oil pump bosses. If you drill straight you should be ok.

I used a 5/16 drill bit and a 3/8-16 tap to do mine.
