shots from the garage...

....and we found more stuff wrong. Do NOT let your Wilwood pads get down this low. A number of folks have said when they're close to 1/2 replace. Pistons were sticking bad probably from too much travel. also replaced the rotors. I guess slowing down from 140 takes it's toll. I'd like to get disk brakes on the rear too. All in time....

....and the trans isn't in the car :) the learning curve of my pump housing is only "happy" with a gear that's .747 thick. The new HD gear, advertised as "drop in" measures .748+.... won't even let the pump turn. Going to have the new gear machined to meet the .003 spec. ....and I'm going to see the availability of a CSR 904 shield and weigh my torque converter options.

well the 727 is back in the car with the HD gear in place and at the proper clearance. Hard to believe I had over 50 runs in by this time last year. So far I'm at 6 as we broke at 7. As I was waiting for the pump to be outfitted, I once again drug the 904 out of the corner and bolted it up. Measured for a driveshaft and placed the order. Inland Driveline aluminum 3.5" shaft should be here tomorrow. A&A pump gear set is also on the way, so I'll be sending my old Dynamic 8" off to Ultimate to have the stall changed, and upgraded for use with the W8 mill. Lenny will also be installing the new "slot-less" drive hub to accommodate the new gears (A-500 style).
So I cracked into our 904 that was built back in the mid 90's

good 1 piece front band.

Well this trans was suited to our iron head 360.... I'm debating on throwing it in "as is" and seeing what we break first... if anything. I'll be putting the Griner on the shelf and will use my Pro Trans brake from the 727 when the time comes.

Seem to be getting a collection of these again...

I might come up for a day Tony... I need to put laps on the car. I'm actually planning on taking the car back to my old stomping grounds Labor Day weekend so I need to know it's going to last.

great day in the morning.... I ordered a part and IT'S GOING TO FIT!!! measured maybe .0002 thicker than the OE, but had room to spare.

If you ever need a solenoid for one of those brakes I have a brand new one.

well I got a text noting my hoarding so one of the Griners is going on vacation in Washington state. I've never had a solenoid issue with any of the three we've had, but it's kind of been in the back of my mind as to where one might buy one since they've gone the way of the dinosaur.

If you want one I have one brand new. Its your for allowing me to use one of your valve bodies while my new one was coming to me.

the car backed out of the garage just fine and made it to the trailer.... guess that's all the testing we get. Trailer and truck are packed, leaving tomorrow after work for our 1100 mile pull to the first track I'd ever run at.... Thunder Valley Dragways in Marion SoDak. I'll race there Saturday afternoon/night, and then throw the car in the trailer and head to central SoDak and race at Oahe Speedway Sunday and Monday. Will be fun racing with some folks I haven't seen in a very long time. First round or win.... it'll be fun all the same.

I got the converter back from Ultimate for the 904 with the new solid hub. Hold up on that project is that I'm considering some better "hard parts" for the unit. Just trying to consider how stupid we want to go with this project :)

Well the “shots” from the garage has become the conversation from the garage. Nothing new in the car department other than in even more than ideal conditions I haven’t been able to stay in the 9.4’s. I did learn that I need to educate myself in the air bleed department as I threw the largest jet I had into my 4825 and still had a bad lean misfire at 6500 rpm up. I don’t often have to deal with going to the lanes with 100DA which only improved to 200 before we ran. Knew it was going to be lean and we really needed the DA around 800 to meet our tune. This carb is still running power valves so I can’t imagine it running low on fuel. Guess I need to add a manifold vac sensor to the confusion. Race season is looking pretty bleak so far. Lots going on, kids graduating college..... might be a good time to “upgrade/change” some things. Think my S60 has a bent tube so that will be priority 1 for getting checked out. Left axle slides in smooth as can be, right side..... not so much.

The “anti race” list is growing.... I finally ditched the rear drum brakes in favor of some Strange disc brakes. Noted at Famoso it stopped much nicer. So far running no proportioning valve, but am making some gauges so that I can check the pressures. I may add the valve in the front line to bias more to the rear. Bad news on this deal is that the left axle slid right out, the right one takes some persuasion. Same on the install. I fear years of trans brake launches may have taken its toll on my S-60 housing. Of course if the rear is coming out, might as well have the shocks redone. They’ve been in the car a long time. Shocks?.... well the fronts could be looked at too, I mean the springs are in need of replacement...... might be a long summer.

Jay...thanks....need to get a lighter spring on Tonya Dart....I think it is 400 lbs...very stiff....

Do you run a 10” spring? I think I have some 350’s if you want to try them. The 300’s were a fine combo for ride height and stored energy.... but they have been on the car since 13. Tightened up 4 turns a side 2yrs ago to get some ride height back, but they are done now.

....is there anybody in Vegas you’d trust to check/repair a rear end housing?

Pretty sure they are 8 inch springs

Talk to Neil Evans at Dan's Driveline Service....will get the best price from him

Summer schedule is coming soon... was time to remove anything that could melt or explode from the trailer. Wish I could store the car in there, but man it gets HOT!!! Since the car is once again planted on jack stands I found my QA1 350 10” springs and installed them over the worn 300’s. Got the ride height back where I want it. Probably pull the rear out of it and maybe the transmission since it’s up. Got to many things going on with life in general so no racing for awhile.

It’s HOT!! Stripped the rear end out of the car. Took it to Mike at Comp Chassis in Phoenix. For the cost of lunch he checked my S60 and it’s good to go. Might be a little off, but certainly not anything that needs correcting. Probably from heat when the ladder install was done he figured. All the heims are good and the gears are back in and awaiting the shocks to get back from Afco. FWIW my S60 weighs 186lbs with rotors and calipers. Shortened all the bolts involved and lost a lb :). Once the rear is done we’ll hop inside and pull the stock steering column. Bought one of those Twisted Metal aluminum columns. Might see about pulling the dash (may involve sawz all) as I have a fiberglass one that I’ve had here for a long time.... of course if I do that, I SHOULD rewire the car.... so many messes...

and it’s August... after spending last weekend under the car we did make some small progress. First of all, I live in the desert. Getting under or even around the car this time of year sucks!!! Got my shocks back from Afco and the new chrome springs. Guess if I can’t go rounds I’ll look pretty. Got the nice shiny ladder bars, freshly painted rear housing and rebuilt shocks already to go and somewhere in the shuffle I misplaced the top shims for the shock mounts. Put the new harbor freight band saw to use and made some new ones. Handy tool for sure! Got the axles and brakes all assembled and another amazing discovery. The rear axle vent was plugged solid! We’ve had some rear gear oil seepage over the years so maybe this has something to do with it.

The transmission has been in for a couple weeks and I went to put the converter bolts in and discovered I only had .040 pull forward... and once again the past comes I’m to haunt me. Quick phone call to my dad brings up the memory that we used to run a spacer with this converter. No local metal shops to get anything this size... luckily a fellow racer came to my aid and shipped me a .090 spacer he used to have to run. Go to install the mini starter...and...it...won’t...fit! That day we learned another Mopar deal... R3/904 may require clearancing. Get out the die grinder! At this point I think I should have left well enough alone!

and here it is.... coming up on September. Been on jackstands for 5 mos.
I removed the 4150 intake and have the intentions of installing another 598 intake off of the “core” W8 mill I have. The top on that one has been modded for a dominator. All sounds easy EXCEPT that I have to make intake gaskets, and possibly some spacers to get it to fit along with some grinding on the ports to get it to somewhat match the heads. Dragging my feet on this.... I long for the day where I could just order something!

The steering column.... I’m sure some of you have seen the Twisted Metals column on FB. 14lb lighter and with some trials and tribulations, I got it to fit the car where I wanted it. Unfortunately this required a bit more fabrication than I expected, but it’s good to have friends that can weld aluminum. The Harbor Freight band saw came in real handy to shorten the column by 3” and the bearing was easily removed and pressed into the housing. Looks really nice in the car. Now if I just had the ambition to cut the dash out and install the fiberglass one I have.... another time.

Maybe you should change the title of your thread....to "Parked in the Garage"?
